I just completed this job after watching your video multiple times. You were not kidding about that soft fuel line, on and off was literally the hardest part of this job, I fortunately had some long Hemostats that worked very well also. Wanted to thank you for the step by step on this one it was def. not for the weak. All in all it took me about 3 hours. I dropped a bolt and had to remove the skid plate just like you did also, adding probably another hour to an otherwise fairly straightforward R&R job. Thanks again. I see why they charge so much for this but anyone with basic hand tools and a crap ton of patience can do it without removing the manifold. My advice just remove the skid plates your going drop something its inevitable. I also had a bit of a struggle to get the new pump to sync up to the keys on the cam. I had to rotate the motor slightly but it finally just dropped in and I was off and running from there.

I just want to let everyone know that this task can be completed. It took me a while but I finally figured it out. If anyone needs any help or advice, you can reply to this comment and I’ll let you know step by step on how I was able to get the old pump out and the new one in.

i think i showed/explained it pretty well in the video. removing the oil filter is key to giving that extra bit of room. I am quite surprised that so many people out there didn't try it and went to all the trouble to remove the manifold and have to replace the manifold gasket and all the extra work that goes with that.

@@followyourbliss101 yeah, you definitely did but I still had a little trouble in some areas. You showed us what you did, and that was great, but I’ve did a little refining to your way of doing things and it made it a lot easier for me. Another part that you really didn’t speak about or show was when you put the new pump back on, how to manipulate it to where it lines up correctly so it can be bolted down. Even after making sure I had both pumps in my face and made sure the new one was line up like the old one. I still had trouble getting the new pump lined up correctly. So I used an angled screwdriver to move the little thingy that the pump is supposed to line up with one turn and then was able to get the pump back on. I also didn’t have to remove the steel gas line. I just took the one connected to the pump off and was able to move past it after the soft rubber line c-clamp was removed.

@@followyourbliss101 you actually did tell us that we might need to crank the engine lol. That’s my bad. I was so annoyed with the car that I completely forgot about you saying that you might need to crank the motor to get the pump lined up with the camshaft. So I apologize for saying that you didn’t. You did a great job with this video. I probably would’ve been paying close to 5k if it wasn’t for your video. I appreciate you time and work.

Knipex has a good C clamp tool. But it is long and angled.

@@followyourbliss101 I was able to remove mine just waiting on the part but I’m debating on buying the same clamp on the rubber hose from Mercedes or going with the clamp that you used any issue with it leaking ?

I’m about to do this myself but don’t have a OBD scanner to clear the code could I be able to go somewhere & clear it or what should I do after I replace it?

you could go to an advanced auto parts or auto zone or whereever and ask them to use their scanner to clear the code - basic ODB scanners are pretty cheap to buy as well

Can that factory clamp on the soft line be removed with a pair of pliers or channel locks? I hope so because I really don’t want to have to order a special tool for that. Especially since I’m going to replace the clamp with a different type altogether.

These are a major pita to get off - but the special tool which really isnt al that expensive makes it way easier. I hate those clamps too and most people who wrench on their cars i dont think care about how a stupid clamp looks

@@followyourbliss101 I tried to get the clamp off with a few different tools and it didn’t work for me. The problem is that I don’t have enough room to get any type of leverage on the clamp. I have everything else taken apart besides that one clamp. So I’m waiting for the tool to arrive so I can take the clamp off and replace it.

@@followyourbliss101I was finally able to get the clamp removed, today lol. I ordered the tool and that wasn’t working at all. So I finally decided to just cut the clamp off altogether. I got it out now I’m putting the new pump in. Thank you for making this video. It was really helpful for me. 🙏🏾

I’m doing this job now and it looks like there’s enough space to manipulate the pump to get it from behind the motor. I had to stop and watch the video again because I got stuck so I decided to check the comments to see if anyone asked any questions that I might’ve had.
