This is the first "80s talk show with punks" clip I've seen where the hosts are respectful and ask serious, genuine questions... and the punks they pick to be on the show are bright kids, not hand picked to be outrageous.
That’s Ray from WarZone, not punk, that’s the point. There is a big difference. Hardcore may have looked “punk” to people that didn’t know, but hardcore was quite a bit different. Most punks I knew just did it to try and be outrageous, or were posers. Hardcore kids tried to make a difference in the world and probably did more to spread things like Veganism than any other group... and look where veganism is now.
That was not just the eighties. That was all of the human history prior to the existence and mass distribution of smartphones, which eliminated privacy for everybody.
She was rebelling like all the gen xers rebelled against the reagan trickle down theory and the class wars against the rich and greedy. So the fact is the fact and were stilll revolting against this and the Trump supporters dont see that they are being used in the same way(guess you had to be there to know what the hell youre talking about).
Natalie is a literal ICON. Even though this was from the 80s, I've seen a handful of alt posts on instagram with video clips of her in them. She's such a badass!!
Natalie has zero intelligence. Intelligent people get the facts before they state their views. Donahue was/ is known as an extremely liberal person. She's just a very angry and prejudiced person. She's 53 now and probably working some dead-end job because no employer would put up with an attitude like that.
they still make bazooka bubble gum. they discontinued the little comic strip in 2012 in the U.S. in Latin American countries bazooka bubble gum still has the comic strip.
@@lavish_ale5470 Don’t listen to people like that. They’re fucking idiots. I’m old. Just because I don’t understand someone doesn’t mean I dismiss them. That especially pertains to young people. I don’t expect everyone to understand me. Old people didn’t understand me when when I was young, but I respected them anyway. Young people don’t understand me now that I’m old, but I respect them. Because you’re human. You’re alive. And because life is hard. So be different. Be you. And when you get old, don’t dismiss young kids. I guarantee you will not understand them, but you can empathize.
Christine was more impressive than any of them. She has three jobs, going to college and BTW...she is BEAUTIFUL.. Nat was cool but Christine said less, what she said was HUGE and impressive and first thing she said "Hi Mom." Girl is PURE class. OMG I wish I knew her.
Ms. Felony Strutter she also entered the conversation with the idea she was under attack which led to her coming off a lil bit bitchy for no reason, hot headed is just as unattractive in females as it is in males.
To me, this was the best time to be alive in the entire 20th Century. The music was second to none; and I mean every genre, the movies were awesome, Reagan was president, the U.S. economy was in pretty decent shape( not perfect but no time period is) technology was developing, home computers were entering the market, Apple was born, then Mircosoft, the first cell phone was available and being used by the rich, the fashions were just fantastic, and race relations were better than the previous 20 years before. The CD came out in 1982, and also the Sony Walkman and later on the DiscMan. People interacted with one another in a normal way, and times were basically normal. Prices were decent, and with a few exceptions, everything was hitting on all cylinders. Today? I don't know where to begin. It's basically the worst time to be alive than anytime period I could think of. I would rather be in 1930's depression era, than live in this immoral, horrible, Godless, apathetic degenerate society.
@@QuantumEffectResidue Don't believe the hype put out by the right wing media. In his second term, Reagan was senile and would've been impeached. His admission that he broke the law and was selling weapons to Iran was classic. "My heart tells me I didn't do these things, but the facts say otherwise. "

First time a psychologist who came on with the Hardcore/ Punks who actually was on point. So pissed Raybeez kept getting interrupted and cut off. That dude was the voice for that scene. "Don't forget the struggle, don't forget the streets!"
@jeff knox you're American aren't you? You're a nation of halfwits you fucking slack jawed banjo plucking simpleton. I bet you voted Trump too. You're a global joke mate. Despised the world over. I bet you don't even own a passport. Go play with your guns you fucking cretin.
Raybeez-Post death he is still known worldwide as a hardcore legend, Todd Youth- I mean youth of today would be enough said but he also went to play in Danzig and also with Glen Campbell. Jimmy Gestapo-Murphy’s Law hardcore punk legend still reps NYHC! These dude have each sold more album than the Sex Pistols! Sadly two of them are no longer with us Rest In Power ma dudes Todd Youth and Raybeez!! Gone never forgotten!
Now it's conformity. Think and vote like us or else... I left the punk scene for that. They didn't like I was rebelling against their leftist dogma. I guess I'm too punk for punk.
@@delphic7716 thank God I wasn't the only one who noticed. When my own scene let alone band tries to kick me own for wrong think I knew something was wrong with the scene. What saved my was that I wasn't a shit guitarist and I could solo, the others didn't know what they were doing or never studied scales. I knew radical feminists who had bedrooms bigger than my living room with a loving father in the picture. I was the only working class minority without a dad.
'Do what thou wilt' basically the credo of the satanic Aleister Crowley. The perfect philosophy for the spiritually devoid and narcissistic Godless youth 🙄
@@Uncle_Ruckus_ punk has always been incredibly gay and anti establishment. I’m just curious what subject you had takes on that they didn’t accept. Because my scene is pretty accepting but yeah if someone says shit that is gonna make other people feel like they aren’t accepted then they gotta go.
Ah Geez I feel old. I remember being about 13 when that New York Magazine article came out with Natalie and Jimmy Gestapo with Mark Bay on the cover.I saw Natalie at a Dead Boys gig at Irving Plaza when I was 12,thought she was the most beautiful girl ever and copied her platinum Bob with black tips. What a beautiful girl.
Punk is meaningless. It's meaningless because those of us who make it are worthless to society. People trying to give punk some greater meaning or purpose are directly responsible for GG Allin & Murder Junkies, Antiseen, and all of the other politically incorrect "murdercore" bands that arose as a response to the SJWs of the day. Punk was never about do-gooders and happy fee-fees.
This group of individuals is clearly 'highly" intelligent and simply expressing their uniqueness, and individuality. I have not heard one iota of hate speech. They are to be commended that they are "thinking" for themselves and drawing their own conclusions about life. The blonde haired girl in white has a fine ability to be expressive. in a respectful and thoughtful way.
Just like the PMRC hearings. Remember how eloquent Dee Snider was? And John Denver? The old folks thought he would side with THEM! What a joke!!! How ridiculous to think that we haven't a clue...
Jimmy G still fronts Murph's Law, you can find more recent photos of him with a search. But yea, I am curious what's happened to them all over the last three decades.
There's a number of traces on Natalie online due to her involvement in NYHC and association with Jimmy G. She had wrote two novels: No Forwarding Address and Outlaw Efforts. Her full name is Natalie Jacobson. If you did a bit digging you will find her current image. Aside from slight aging not much changed. Todd Youth (the guy next to Natalie) sadly die back in late 2018. He had been working with a number of band over the years (even working with Danzig and Motorhead at some point). Ray Barbieri, the other bald guy also sadly died back in 1997 due to viral pneumonia. He is a very legendary figure in NYHC scene. I'm not sure about other two girls.
The dude saying that punk is not like heavy metal because they're not into drugs and they look out for one another LOL I've played in the punk scene it is the same if not worse than the metal scene when it comes to drugs. It's more political and toxic than metal.
These youngsters are sharp libertarians. I see nothing wrong with it. I am the same age as these people. I was 20 in 1985. Some of my friends dressed like this. I didn't. But They all loved my Dad. He was born in 1920 (a vet of WWII and Korea) and would take us skeet shooting, golfing, have them over for dinner, boxing matches in the backyard, make fun of their hair, and generally see eye to eye on almost everything (except music) with them. Dad knew we would all eventually grow up. Dad warned against tattoos. He said something like "When you get older you can get a decent haircut and change your wardrobe, but you can't wash off a tattoo. Do you want to get to be my age with a constant reminder of being an idiot once?" I remember him talking to my best friend, who was thinking about getting a tattoo. Dad started talking about how much he hated potatoes....??... Dad grew up before WWII on a potato farm. "If I got a tattoo saying how much I hated potatoes it would look pretty silly at my current age." Dad had a way of slicing through our youthful exuberance and keeping us on track. All the other Parents knew he was a great guy. Thanks Dad. You've been gone for 16 years, but all 6 of your kids still see everything through your eyes, and all of our friends do too. You were the Best Dad Ever!! If we did something wrong we were punished, If we did something right we were praised. You were fair and honest. Your wacky sense of humor was off the charts. I sure do miss you. Oh yeah, I guess Mom was okay too.
Because it's from our generation, independant, strong, and intelligent...were not the queer snowflakes of today with their weird agendas...we knew what was wrong with the world...this shit today is just dumb as boards.
poor Todd. He joined RayBees last autumn. Todd Youth played with Shitloads of big name bands before he died -- as even mainstream heavy metal acts couldn't deny that this hardcore kid had great skill, so many days practicing in his scumfucked Lower East Side bedroom.
I'm still a punk rocker 64 years old I still Listen from Black Flag, Circle jerks descendants, killing joke, adolescence , DI,Dickies, and everything.. So I did a bit of research, Jimmy Gestapo and Natalie (Jacobson) were together for awhile. She is a writer now in the Seattle area and has written a couple well reviewed books. Her former boyfriend Jimmy is still the singer but now the only remaining original member of Murphy's Law. They are still a band. He recently had major surgery.
Natalie’s really talented I think her most recent work is the graphic novel “Outlaw Efforts.” She also wrote “No Forwarding Address.” And she did a spoken word on Home Alive.
the woman in the blue dress was right for a second. there IS a certain conformity in each alternative subculture. the ones in which it's seen most i feel are deathrock, tradgoth and nu goth - deathrock has been boiled down to razorcandi and deathhawks, tradgoth to basically siouxsie sioux copy-pasted and nu goth is simply killstar. it's a heard of black sheep - you can see it in killstar's webshop, in pictures of deathrockers, in that one picture advertising winklepickers. when you look at pictures of the kids at the batcave, that conformity isn't as present - there's colour, different silhouettes and patterns, colourful makeup and hair. yes, it's mostly black, big hair and big eyeliner, but there's originality. i think that originality is only being born again nowadays through youtube and tiktok, where alternative teenagers express themselves freely again, not conforming
Hmmm, Real Metal Musicians are extremely talented, intelligent and have a certain line of tact at the very least. TV wants you to believe they are barking , drugy, satanists.. furthest thing from the truth.. Name a music, race, religion that doesn't have its share of fools. I will say that the top 1000 people responsible for more deaths than anyone in History... ALL WEAR SUITS AND HAVE SHORT CLEAN CUT HAIR !
I've always liked Regis from the time he had Billy Corgan on talking about The melancholy infinite sadness debut and turns out he was went out and bought the CD the double CD and he said he would listen to it here and there so I had to give respect 2 Regis for doing that
Natalie: This is not a costume. This is the way we think, the way we act. This is a way of life” Similar words spoken by Suicide in Return of the Living Dead.
As soon as I saw "New York hardcore" I immediately rolled my eyes expecting a bunch of violent jock poseurs...but these kids are alright (well, kids then. I'm actually about the same age as they are/were). It's funny to hear Kathie Lee talking shit about their appearance when she looks more ridiculous accidentally, than they did intentionally.
Ray (Barbieri) and Todd (Youth) were members of the band 'Warzone', which was one of the seminal Hardcore Punk bands out of NYC and as mentioned in the interview, Natalie was at the time dating 'Murphy's Law' frontman Jimmy Gestapo.
@@usquebaugh1 Yea, it is funny how most of the elements that get remembered as being iconically 80s, like the whole punk look, were actually a pretty rare sight in those days. It was always the most banal elements that were actually popular, but conveniently forgotten. There's a ton of revisionist bullshit in pop culture.

Thanks to yourself and Ed for making and keeping the tapes. Such a shame commercial broadcasters don't archive this sort of thing. It's such a great look-back.
Thank you so much for this upload. It's really nice to see a good, polite talk in comparison to today's reality shows.. I love the hc/punk community so much. There's nothing worse than living doing drugs all the time and they prove that there is a better way to live. Rest in Peace, Ray [*]
It's so annoying that all Regis and gang can talk about is how they dress, yet if you hear what they're saying - 5 mature, responsible, intelligent young people who don't leach off of society in any way and, arguably, enhance society with what they do - almost completely ignored. The "sensational" shit - the violence, sex, and (surprising to Regis) non-existent drug use is what's talked about. This is close to 30 years ago and yet television/journalism/society in general hasn't really changed much as far as people living in a fucking box.
+R JN It is so annoying how skinhead culture is still associated with racism and Neo-Nazism. People should do their research before jumping to conclusions based on what they have been told by mainstream media or their friends.

+R JN I will say, in defense of Regis and Kathy Lee, they at least listened a little closer than Donahue did, which was not at all. They attempted to try and figure out some sort of rationale, even if it was just a slight attempt.
I was 14yrs old when this show aired but was a big fan of metal and punk rock. I also grew up in NYC and would go to cbgb's often once I was around 16. Words can't describe how authentic, real and genuinely cool NYC was in those days. It disgusts me now.
I wish people like this ran today's hardcore scene. To me, it seems like there's too many fake ass people who claim to keep "true hardcore" alive or revive the scene , but almost all of them do it for the money. Their music has no real message, they have no beliefs in changing society whatsoever. As an individual, you've got no chance to become big in the scene if you don't follow your company's rules and instructions. Why "fuck the system", when the system is actually a comfortable place to be? Fuckers got blinded by society's egoistic standards of living. Why would they revolt against it? There's no way out guys, we're surrounded by phonies and wannabes. hardcore punk is dead
So you are a "Hardcore Punk"?. What you described happens, even to these people on Regis,,I was 16 when this aired and hanged out with punks,,many I though we're really melodramatic lol.

Every generation has it's own group of people who march to the beat of a different drummer. In the 50's it was the beatniks, in the 60s it was the hippies, in the 80's it was the punk rockers, today it's the tiktokers.
I met Regis at a banquet several years ago. We had some laughs and he was cool! I'm glad this popped up on my recommended. I remember this episode too! I was 16 and going to see metal shows in NYC at The Ritz and Lamore's West!
That Natalie was cute and HOT and highly intelligent! A real New York attitude, but must have been smart to be admitted to (and presumably graduate from) NYU, especially in those days.
War Zone was a huge influence on me in the mid 80’s. I’ve seen them numerous times on the LES. Unfortunately Ray passed in 97’ And we just recently lost Todd Youth in 2018. SKINHEAD YOUTH!!! I don’t know what Became of Natalie. Would love to know though. I haven’t seen her in 25-30 years. Have no clue about the other 2 girls.
I'm betting regis and them, would never guess that raybeez went on the serve years in the military . Defending the country and defending alot of the views they probably think he stood against.
WFMU radio station played War Zone in the mid 80s, here's a clip which includes when they played "Will You Ever Come Down", pretty cool anti-drug song. It's about four songs in ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JZjstvYdvuw.html
Those girls were so my type back in the 80’s. I was in the Atlanta punk scene, hanging at little five points and going to concerts at 688. Man those were the days. 😉🖖🏼🛸
Back when being proud of your country and not liking communism was allowed to be said. Back when people were allowed to have opinions. "I doubt their republicans" that was legit offensive btw
Punks are actually pretty cool. Just take some time to know them. Listen. Punks are really what hippies really want to be. Also don't miss out Friday when the SEXY Billy Dee Williams will be here.
No, hippies did not want to be punks, and definitely weren’t down with that musical style. Not enemies. Not like English mods & rockers. The sixties were Midnight Rambler, the punk era was Paint It Black. Different tastes outside of music as well. I was more of an Americanized British cafe racer at the time, pushing a race built 600 Norton and educating larger bikes. But both hippies & punks were mostly intelligent though it was sunshine & light vs. dark & gothic Literally night & day. -Matt’s dad Been there, done that, my friend designed the t-shirt.
