Excellent job!! When you airbrush Liquitex inks, do you apply them directly from the pot, or do you thin them with something? Also, do you use some matt medium or matt varnish when using inks, to eliminate the satin finish??

1. Don't thin - they're fine as they are. 2. The oil paints dry super matte in my experience so it's not really necessary. They kind of conceal the shine of the ink. That said, you can always add a layer of varnish after everything is dry if you want to.

I'm no expert but I had major problems with my liquitex inks straight out of the pot. No matter what dry time I used, application distance, pressure, etc, they would lift, peel, disintigrate if I even so much as airbrushed another thin layer of ink on top. I started adding a couple drops of varnish to my ink in the airbrush and that resolved my problem. I don't know if that's because there's a different formulation that I'm getting or something but based on the other questions and comments I've seen online I know I'm not the only person who has had this problem. If you're having issues maybe give the varnish a try and see if it helps.

@@jon9509 I have indeed had such problems, too, even while using Liquitex White Ink mixed with Vallejo Aribrush Thinner. Your tip about using varnish is very interesting. Will try that one out, thanks a lot!

Hi Marco loved this tutorial. Mine came Out a little darker than I wanted. Would you advise using lighter oils or inks to brighten up? I've not used either before this and they were good fun. Thanks

Thanks man! In general you want dark values in your selection of oils to create contrast and definition but you can regulate the brightness starting with a lighter acrylic base or making the washes less staining through extra dilution or a layer of satin/gloss varnish (check the video of the Mouth of Mork!). And of course you can always work new lights on top to enhance/add new lighter values

Awesome work! You didn't show the basing in this video. What is your snow recipe? It reads really well on the rocks and about ready to base a frost giant. Could use some tips since opinions are all over the place haha.

How many different liquitex inks to you have…? I just got the cym, black, white and umber to be able to mix anything, but straight from the bottle seems so much faster!

Hey Marco! I've learnt so much from your videos after finding you a few months ago, your helbrecht video was astounding. I'm super eager to try the gold recpie that you have by mixing duraluminium and yellow orange ink. I have the same colours and when I mix them I just seem to end up with a muddy brown brass colour, any advice? Is the ratio of ink quite heavy? Also, if it helps, the ink I have is quite opaque, not transparent.

Hi Marco, amazing work as always. If I may ask, I am fairly new using an airbrush despite an ok level with brushes. I struggle with the colors choice s, I don’t understand the construction logic that make you foresee that a layers of so many colors will make you achieve such an amazing result! 09:00 The reason that the gold you mixed with Duraluminium and a gold yellow ink has a faint greenish tone, is because Duraluminium is not a neutral grey metallic paint, but one that has some blue in it. I have decanted my Vallejo metallic paints and can see which one has which tone (easy to tell after they have separated). Steel, Duraluminium and Silver all have this blueish tone, but in Steel it gets overpowered by the black. Chrome seems to be almost completely white, but still contains a very small amount of blue.

I don't remember which video you put it in, it was one of your earliest. I rember it was one of the very first you used oil washes. You said something like "You just wait guys, in 6 months everyone will be doing oil washes". You were right.

Your videos are great. Personally I would like it if you spent a little more time on each shot of the finished model. The shots switch so quickly it is difficult to focus on what you're seeing before the next photo oops up. Just 2-3 more seconds per photo would be great!

I recently started using Molotow paints as well, but in my experience they seem to wear off the models rather quickly (just where my fingers were holding the model were rubbed down to grey plastic). How are you using them that they are durable enough to be a primer?

Just watched this and I'm blown away. One thing that I didn't hear you mention is how you would go about sealing something like this. Im guessing that an acrylic sealer would probably be best, like Vallejo or AK Ultra Matte. Do you have something that you recommend?

Thanks man! I usuat don't use varnish; oil paints are super tough when dry and moder acrylics don't fear anything! Plus a coat of varnish kills all the nuances the general depth and the different finishes

Oh yeah that subtle control of the different finishes takes some time to be mastered and it always flies under the radar of conscious perception; you are never really aware of it until you see the model in person, better if next to a model that doesn't have that extra touch!

Marco, would this be a good summary of your process? 1) different opaque coats to get a variety of vibrant tones 2) white zenithal to pick out the main volumes 3) inks to reintroduce vibrancy and blend tones together 4) oil wash to bring out definition 5) heavy body acrylics to highlight the details Did I miss anything? Even though I know from experience it's going to work out amazing, everytime you cover up an already beautiful paint job with an almost messy spread of oils, I wince. It's weird because you know it's gonna turn out in the end, but still it's sort of shocking.

This is just gorgeous. It's so rich and deep, when you started priming in purple I genuinely wondered how it would end up looking like the thumbnail, but you nailed it. I love it. Is there any chance you would also paint this in a red scheme? I'm currently assembling the red version of this, Karazai, and I would love to match this level of depth and vibrancy in a nice dark red. Or perhaps you could point me in the right direction as to what colors you would use to make a red version of this dragon? Thank you for the video and any help you could provide!

Use Kimera Pthalo Blue (Redshade) for the shadows. It makes reds look super rich. Give it a go!

Acrylics tend to stain in a different and in general stronger way, plus you don't get the time to do the steps with a comfortable speed. But the the biggest difference is the natural tendency of oils to create automatic, soft, super smooth blends!

@@Veroni23 Don't worry they are totally safe if you don't eat them 😉 (and even then, only if you eat serious quantities!). You need a good discipline with the solvent, but it's nothing that an adult can't handle in a super easy and safe way 😉

I believe it's to make the transition easier. Imagine trying to paint red while starting with black. It's much easier to paint red over a yellow or even a brown. Similarly here, it's easier to paint the tones he wanted over purple rather than something like a black. It also won't desaturate his tones like a white might.

I'd like to commend the subtitles provided on this video. As someone with poor hearing, it's very helpful, especially for parsing non-native English speakers like Marco. I noticed many languages were provided, too. Thanks! The colour choices were also very informative, taking a very non-RGB approach.
