He had +11 to Persuasion while equipped with The Captain's Command sword (+2 to CHA) which he's now hidden, so now it's currently +9. Deception's currently +6.
In older versions of D&D, lightning damage was actually associated with the air descriptor. Aela could have been an air/fire genasi and her lightning is just a result of that heritage.

Honestly, wouldn't surprise me if Mark was some flavour of gender. From a distance, I'd guess emby or fluid, but I obviously don't know him well enough to be able to say that.
