I was born in 78....so I was just a kid in the 1980s but I loved it.... as a kid in elementary school the first time I had to date one of my assignments with the year "1990"....I paused and just stared at it for a few moments....I knew then there that the end of a special time was over and gone forever and I felt sad because I knew the world would never be the same again....I thought the 80s would last forever and it was that moment I realized it wouldn't last forever and that it was infact gone for good.
I was in high school from August 1986 through June 1990. Great times. Wish I could live it all over again. Not only was high school great but it seemed like everything in America was great at that time. Damn shame what the world has turned in to.
I started high school in 86 as well, that was the year of the shuttle disaster, the world wept over the loss of 7 people that day, today 7 people dying is barely a news story
@@buckeyevinnie8456 technology has damaged society tremendously and it has also destroyed culture and so many values that people learned and enjoyed to the fullest back in the 1980’s.
@@claytonphillips85As far as the pop culture goes a little bit. The internet started in 1994 so that's when things started going into the direction they are now.
Me tooo 1980-85 these gen z will never know how good it all was think we took it for granted and now we cant go back!😢 loved this video looked just like my high school days it sure took me back a bit❤
I graduated in 1985 and I can say that those four years were probably one of the best times of my life. I think the 80's was probably the best time to be a teen. Even more then the 1970's. Not a care in the world unlike today.
Class of 84. Same school all 12 years. married my high school sweetheart, almost 40 years now. To me the most amazing thing to see is the personal interaction between everyone...no heads all craned looking at phones.
The eighties were my late teens and twenties. Such a wonderful time to be young. America was in great shape and Americans were very happy. The metal and concerts of the day were true events to experience. They will never ever be the same or even come close. I remember them like they were yesterday, I miss them like they were a 1,000 years ago. God-bless the eighties nation. God's favorite decade.
The ironic thing was that there were students in the 1980s complaining that it wasn't like their parents' time... the 1950s/early '60s with stuff such as sock hops. Just enjoy what you make of the moment, look back and treasure what's fondly, and then inspire everything to make a new goal. Each era has its pros and cons, and you just have to live with the good and the bad.
@@pannoni8449are you fkn kidding? My father was worried to death about being drafted into Nam. Then you had Korea in the 50s. In the 80s you didn't worry about being draftedThey just tried scaring everyone with ww3 movies.
My high school years spanned fall of 1986 to June of 1990. Those were some interesting times to say the least. I was involved in the annual musical production and the chorus, and I thoroughly enjoyed that. I absolutely loathed being teased and ostracized by classmates and being a target for bullies. That crap I don't miss at all! My senior prom date turning me down at the 11th hour because her first choice for a prom date was back on also bothered me. So high school was a mixed bag for me -- some awesome memories, and some I'd rather forget! An added bonus was the fact that heavy metal bands were exploding all over top 40 radio, which was way cool! You could tune into any random FM rock and top 40 station and hear bands like Motley Crue, Poison, Warrant, Ratt, Whitesnake, Great White, Guns N' Roses, Skid Row, etc. So at least it could be said the 80's had an awesome soundtrack! That definitely helped me get through some of the rough times of those 4 years. Even if my social life sucked, I could always count on a rocking tune on the radio to lift my spirits!
Well everyone wants to believe that the 80's was THE perfect decade, but we'd be lying if we said like any other time in school, you had your assholes and bullies back then too. You had crime, politics, sex and drugs, marriage, taxes and death, but to try and pinpoint what it is exactly that people really clammer for from the 80's. I think, it was the intention, the goal as it were, to create real happiness in life and to always look forward and be excited about what's next, what "new thing" was gonna make life better. I hate to say this cause I don't wanna believe it, but I think we've reached the pinnacle of whatever the hell can make for a better society. In fact I think we're beginning to wilt and quickly, simply because we hit the ceiling, with technology, health care, food and drink, hair and beauty, television, music and film, media as a whole. (At least in most of the world). And we've become so bored and complacent, we find fulfillment from the most ridiculous and mundane things, like video games, porn, and reaction videos. T.V and advertising has gone out the window, now that everyone watches everything online, even Cinema is nowhere near what it was twenty years ago. Without realizing it, technology is one thing we've allowed to take over a huge chunk our lives, and it's not good. I sometimes envy people who say they don't use facebook, like my god, I wish I could detox from it all. But, I also Think with the decline will be opportunity to come back around, forgive the manic depressive rant lol I probably sound like one, but yeah everything gets a return.
My high school class. 1980 Skaneateles New York. It's been awhile. Wishing all the classes at every school the very best. Never stop being awesome. Been at my job since 1985 making Dairy farm tubing for IBA and more plus medical tubing for ventilators and so much more. Stay strong and enjoy the life we have been given. Inside and out we are all special.
It was a glorious time to be in HS. Kids talked and exchanged greetings instead of looking down at their cell phones. We were not afraid to be teenagers and you gradually learned that you were not the center of the universe. Mom and dad were not there to clean up all of your messes and make it all better. Every other word was not F this or Fing that. Use profanity all the time and it loses any meaning or emphasis.
I suppose it depended on what part of the country you went to high school or the crowd you hung out with as far as cursing goes. I was in high school from 1982 to1986 and I heard it all the time. Well, even in elementary school...
Class of ‘23 here. People still exchange greetings and talk with others. Just because we have phones doesn’t mean we don’t socialize. If anything, it was easier to plan after school activities, I could call my ma and ask her if I could go to the fair while still with my friends during lunch.
@@AtlasMMV i grew up in a time before cellphones, and I can tell you so many of these commenters are so full of shit. Imagine thinking nobody was selfish or fought or had tattoos in the 80s 😂😭 delusional as hell.
You said in the 70s Video you started HS in 1979. If you did, you should have graduated HS in 1983. Were you on a 5 year Plan? 🤔 🤣 Just as I called it. An 80s kid. You didn't go to HS in the 70s at all unless you flunked a grade. Which wouldn't surprise me.
@@kbrewski1 I started in 79. I had a car accident and couldn’t graduate until 1984. I believe in one of these I stated I went to two proms. Are you a dick in real life or just play one on the internet? If you are not happy with the way your life turned out don’t project your anger on others. Have a nice day.
If you were good looking and had a very outgoing personality and made friends easy then high school was probably a very fun place for you it's like a party everyday for you and when you turn 18 the party moves to college. It's not fun for everybody and kids with issues with their looks or social problems it's a rough place. I think today in high schools it's the same formula.
I graduated from High School in 1982. I remember a lot of things from my High School Days. I hated the 10th grade the most. The funniest thing I remember right after I graduated was, I went to see Fast times at Ridgemont High. When I heard a couple of teachers say something about the exam and the final, I said that I was glad that I wasn't going to hear that in the Fall. Memories 😊. One guy who I went to school with, said that those were the good'ol days. Thanks 👍.
Class of 1986❤️ I remember my senior year like yesterday. Sad that Gen X was the last to get a decent education in the public school system. Pre-internet, do research in the school library. Learn proper English.
Class of 1985, without the benefit of receiving a decent education in the public school system, "borrowed" my research paper, and had a much more firm grap of Ebonics than the Kang's Anglish.
Aug 1988 -May 1992. I came into HS listening to Ratt, Poison, Skid Row and Def Leppard only to graduate listening to Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Nirvana. What a time I had.
I was never that popular but had friends and enjoyed high school. I can't remember any kid who was friendless. We had so much fun and freedom then. Miss it.
Class of 1983 this video is great . Very different than my high school in NYC. No busses, or cars. Subways , and our schools were in brownstones with no lunch room or gym. You went out of school for lunch.
Those kids actually looked like the ones youd see in highschool horror flicks. I always thought they look too old in those movies, but it seems like teens really LOOKED OLDER back then. 😂 Nowadays they still look like twelve year olds 🤣
14 year olds maybe, but I definitely didn’t look 12 at 16. Either way, it’s better to look younger than you actually are. Because at 40 you’ll look no older than 32
High school 1982-1986. Great times which still live on in today's culture. We were at the crossroads of the Space Shuttle, cable TV, and the early internet. I remember the big deal was that MTV came to our school to film a music video for a local artist who was starting to make some noise, Patsy Torres. Our auditorium was playing the part of a concert venue and me and something like 150 of my friends got to be "the concert crowd". We would see the video and always say "That's me" as we looked at the silhouetted back of someone's head. Great times!
had i even been the slightest bit serious about my "academic career" i would've graduated in 1985. as it happens i went to 3 different high schools and never even graduated. since there is absolutely zero footage of me from that era i do enjoy watching these compilation vids that people decide to put together all these years after the fact. i can also take pride in saying i never had a mullet or even anything close.
I don’t know how a small town in Indiana had MTV in 81, but there were times during open lunch, we’d eat fast, ride bikes to somebody’s house that had it. Watch for like 20-25 minutes and race back to school in time for afternoon classes.
In most ways it was better. But today is 1000x better if you need someone to talk to (danger is the rabbit hole of self wallowing so that IS worse). But 100% better is if you wanted a hobby but couldnt afford it you can at least absorb all the info you can on the net. Too bad young people don't understand how GREAT that is. Instead they wallow, pretend they're 100 different genders, FOMO on socials, complain... some shoot their peers. Hobbies would solve most teen depression today. God if only I had the net to indulge my hobby interests at 15.
Why do many of them look like Adults in their 30-40s? A lot of people wonder this, when they look at teenagers from the past decades, especially '50s and '60s....Vsauce science channel did an episode about just that. It's many things, their hairstyle, their clothing, which we associate with a long gone decade, but also they assumed adult responsibilities earlier, in fact the idea of teenager was invented at some point, and it was an unknown concept in the early 20th century.
Class of '80 here. Feels like just a few years ago. Sigh. BTW, my high school had a smoking section. The education was worthless, but I did come away with a lifelong addiction!
I just found an hour's worth of footage from Seneca HS in Louisville, KY on a tape from late 1985. It has a lot of these short interviews about school policy, lifestyles such as fashion, and even at the end a bunch of students jammin' to the rhythm of Prince's "When Doves Cry" and "Let's Go Crazy!" Look out for it in the coming months for more great memories!
Class of 87. Once in a while there'd be a fight but never a shooting. We learnedshit That we could use we had shop for guys that couldn't go to college. Maybe some weed and beer but not as bad as it is today..im 53 and a contractor i feel my HS education is sometimes better than the millennial educated engineers I deal with
It isn't always the case. What some people forget is youngsters' age when they graduate high school has to be at the last day of such (which varies from state to state) between May 25 to June 23. Also, the youngsters' birthdays are taken to account as well. Example: if someone enters high school as a 14-year-old freshman, he [or she] must have been born between August 1 (of one calendar year) & June 10 (of another) with varied cutoff dates to reach. Four years after the individual stepped into that place, he [or she] will graduate from there as long one's grading point average (GPA) is at 3.0 or higher due to the completion of school work, homework, or a hybrid of both in some cases plus exams & pre-prep tests to help him [or her] enroll into college (university for residents outside the USA). For those who entered or graduated high school in the USA between August 1979 & June 1990, they were as the following: Class of 1980/Aug. 1961-Jun. 1962 Class of 1981/Aug. 1962-Jun. 1963 Class of 1982/Aug. 1963-Jun. 1964 Class of 1983/Aug. 1964-Jun. 1965 Class of 1984/Aug. 1965-Jun. 1966 Class of 1985/Aug. 1966-Jun. 1967 Class of 1986/Aug. 1967-Jun. 1968 Class of 1987/Aug. 1968-Jun. 1969 Class of 1988/Aug. 1969-Jun. 1970 Class of 1989/Aug. 1970-Jun. 1971 Class of 1990/Aug. 1971-Jun. 1972 I hope this cleared up for you. ☮
Our high school was built on some crazy energy conservation principles. There was only a small 1/4 size window in each classroom (if you were lucky to face outwards) in the back corner. That was to conserve the body heat from the students to heat the school. Except our electrical/electronics teacher told us they forgot about Mondays and had to last minute run more heating vents in the shop ceiling. They also used a ton of asbestos (you could literally reach up and tear a chunk off). Not sure why, it was like a prison - brick on the inside and the outside. The teachers ended up suing the school board over this and it eventually closed the school down in about 2000. Then the whole thing was torn down to make way for a new megaschool to cover the closure of 3 or 4 schools in the area.
I entered high school as a freshman in 1989. I remember thinking I was so grown up, and going to school with seniors - many who are legally adults was awesome! I expected high school students to act like adults. Boy was I disappointed they still acted like elementary kids.
Ok, somethings off with your time-line. I was born in 1968 and graduated highschool in 1987. You say it was kids born between 1961 and 1966 and went to highschool from 1980-1989. 😮...... ?
Satiny jackets, ski coats, feathered hair, tight gym shorts f& cheesey moustaches for the guys, ahhhh yes. This was like looking at a snapshot from my old school. Class of 1984
