One thing I've seen people do is put a higgs rig on their ship and align to a safe spot at 3/4 speed. The higgs rig lowers your top speed to the point that it takes a long time to move out of range of your mining targets. If trouble shows up you can pop into warp instantly. It's requires a little more interaction and provides a lot more safety.
That was interesting. A few remarks though. First off - I see Mining as a PVP activity. I don't like to lose. If I go out and mine without getting ganked - I win. If I go out and get ganked - I lose. I hate losing. I'm more interested in NOT LOSING than I am in making money. This fact colors all my mining. What I prefer to do - is to mine in Dead Space. If you look at your anomalies - these often have Veldspar in them - and - so do some missions. The Anomalies go away from being publicly listed - once you've killed all the rats but the Asteroids will still be there as long as someone is in the area, just like mission space. If you are in Dead Space - they have to scan you down to find you - so you keep your D Scan going - and looking for Combat Scanner Probes. One other factor in mining Dead Space - is that you can use Jet Cans. When my Ore Hold starts to get full - I dump it to a Jet Can - and name the can with the time (they last 2 hours). Then - when I have mined out everything I can reach from where I'm at - I'll dump my last ore to a new can - and move the ore out of the old can into it. That gives me 2 hours from that point to either move it to a new Jet Can or pick it up. I have a Miasmos for that. Your tank is a reflection of what your priorities are. If you prioritize making money - you will do so at the expensive of your tank. I prioritize my tank. The Better a Tank you have - the more of them there will need to be to gank you before Concord comes to save you. Other things I do - is to use my more expensive miners in Higher Security Space. So - if I'm after some other ore, which I'll be using in manufacturing, I'm more inclined to just use a Venture. With all these steps I'm taking - this means I'm mining Veldspar. There are advantages to mining Veldspar. It is easiest to mine and takes up the least amount of space per unit. So - the real question is - what is the ISK per Hour - that you are making? Ore prices vary from time to time and I'm not a Spread Sheet Guy - so - I just mine Veldspar. If it was good enough for Chirriba - it's good enough for me. I've been playing EvE off and on since 2007 and have in all that time been scanned down twice. Once was a guy in a Career Agent system who was just playing with the Combat Scanner Probes. The other guy was a Ninja Salvager - who scanned me down in a system that was frequented by Level IV Mission Runners. What was funny about that ... was that I was running missions for a Level I Researcher - and my loot was Level I loot. He was Keeping Distance on my ship as I tractored in the loot and salvaging it as I brought it in. Then - all of a sudden without saying a word - he left. I laughed my ass off. I just wish I could have seen the look on that guys face when he realized what he was salvaging .... Anyway - I would never encourage anyone to play the way I play - as for one thing there are a lot of other factors - this is just how I do it. I don't use After Burners in Haulers or Miners. I Save Location for my next rock - warp out - then warp back to that book mark. I Sort by Size in my Over View. The biggest Asteroids are what I'll warp to - and then use the Survey Scanner to judge their content - and see how close a rock is to being depleted. Mining Drones - can be used two ways. To mine the most ore - pick the closest rock. To use them as extended range miners - pick any rock in range that your mining lasers can't reach. Another factor here - is that I Multi Box. So - I'll have several accounts mining at the same time. What that means - is that if I get caught - I'm going to get caught big time as I won't be fast enough to warp all those ships back to station. I got an Orca 12 year ago or so and used to use it as the center of mining ops, spreading the miners about through the Asteroid Field, dumping their ore to jet cans and having the Orca - with it's 70km range tractor beams - tractor them back and dump the ore into it's ore hold. Then - I'd have a hauler working to see the Orca doesn't get full as I'll lose it's mining boosts if I have to warp back and empty it. Things changed though ... and I didn't do that many more. Now - I'm working back to being able to do that again - but we'll see. I set up shop in a quiet sector in 1.0 or .9 Space. I use the Star Map and Sort by Pilots In Space then go where they aren't. Again - what I am doing is based on how *_I_* play - which - is based on my priorities and how i like to do it. The only thing people should do that I do - is play the way _they_ want to play. .
I've been trying to get into Eve off and on for years. Your videos have made me really attempt to take the plunge again. I love the information and overall format of the videos. Awesome content!
I recently got sucked back into EVE and am doing some mining to build up my currency reserves. I've had your guides start popping in my feed and they've been really helpful with blowing the rust off some of the best practices and just learning how mining works in more detail than "turn laser on, shoot rock."
High Sec mining in a Skiff. That's my jam. I shield tank it as much as I can and train skills. I improve my tank as soon as my skills allow for it. I mine Pyroxeres, Plagioclase, and Blue Ice. I currently have 2 skiffs. One called North wind that's fitted for ice mining, and another that's named South Wind that's fitted for Ore. I tried Deep Core mining that ore last night, but I lost way too much as residue to even come close to making a profit so that was a loss. Seriously... it was bad- despite my skills and using T2 crystals. Back to using T1 strip miners for ore! I refine everything I mine and make decent money doing it. No rats can even touch my ship so I don't need combat drones, but I still use them because it's fun to watch my Serpentine standing continue to drop! I haven't yet been ganked, but I don't expect that to be a common occurance in 0.7 since I'm in a skiff not a retriever. If it ever becomes so, I'll simply move to another quiet corner of the galaxy.
I love the afterburner pulse trick! Question on aligning though: Has something changed before or since this video? I remember watching a demonstration showing how aligning to a destination doesn't speed up time to warp if you align and then stop your ship, because when at 0.0m/s your ship is effectively facing every direction - they entered warp at the same speed both facing toward and in the opposite direction of the destination from stopped. If moving, however, your direction can dramatically alter your time to enter warp. In another video I watched someone's strategy that involved fitting ships with mods that reduced max speed to get it down as far as possible (and possibly beam range increasing stuff as well, but I don't recall) and then set up bookmarks well more than 150k out from either end of a belt and then had the fleet slowly taxi from one end to another together while mining so they were always aligned at 75%+ speed in the direction of a bookmark that the FC could warp them to in the event of potential trouble.
i found if you're mining to sell it, then Dense Veldspar is most profitable as it only takes up 1m3 per part , opposed to Rich Pla, takes up 4m3 per part. so you can collect 4 times the amount of dense than Rich Pla, check prices in market, 4 times 10 isk is better than 28 isk for Rich Pla. Just my findings recently.
@@lorumerthgaming you're welcome, draw back is, it does take longer to fill the hold, haven't done a time and motion study on myself to see if filling the hold four times faster is more profitable, however if you're semi afk mining than it works well.
as a primary miner in eve ( the major part of my eve income is from mining, and I full agree with you, but as a profit miner, always look at the buyer never the sellers, and don't try to play the market, fast sale is the way to go,
Nice build, can you explain the purpose of the survey scanner? It seems to show the exact same data as just clicking the mining tab on navigation. Might be better putting something else there instead?
Note, if you have auto aggro turned on for drones, when you throw out the MTU and someone blows up your MTU, the drones aggro them and then your limited engagement timer starts. So be sure to scoop it.
Why use afterburner before jumping? You're already aligned, I'd have assumed the forward velocity from using would just close the gap between you and the aggressor.
I used t2 damage control, 3 medium traverse bulkheads and 2 t1 medium shield extenders to tank my retriever. My fit gives 39k ehp with lvl5 skills. I AFK mined several freighter loads of belt ore 1 jump from Jita and never got ganked. I got scanned by the usual suspects every once in a while and even saw others get ganked in the system I was mining in, but they never went for me. But if you want to make 5 mill an hour while spamming dscan by all means go ahead.
Don’t use afterburner if your gonna mine go to the belt save location that’s close so you won’t have to move a lot and replace the afterburner with a multi spectrum shield hardner it’s cheaper and more safe and also use a damge control system thing to on one of your low slots that’s all
love the beginning mining tutorial, but if you are align tricking, why not bring a Higgs Boson rig so you can stick around the rocks longer? ofcourse this makes moving into the belt just a tiny bit slower, but can be fixed by bookmark, warp out, warp in? :)
Kinda stupid question. I have all skills to fly Mastery 1 Retriever but I am Alpha. Is it worth using that 7 days free skill then buying the rig Which will probably cost a lot and trying to farm enough in those 7 days to make profit?
@@lorumerthgaming Hehe thanks for reply. I am maxed out in skill, well some 4.8m so can't train much. That was my idea, getting 7 days free Alpha using it and the selling it after.
Presumably you're leaving your drones behind if you see a "gank party" Or is this why you place them on the closest rock to you to so they're able to return quicker? Would mining laser upgrade II's be more efficient or just down to personal preference? (if there's enough power)
correct, drones are way cheap compared to the hull. we use the closest rock because the drones have to drop off the ore in your hold. closer you are, the less time they are taxiing back and forth hope that helps!
Commenting here as I followed this build. I really screwed up and took a ship out I cannot afford to loose. I got attacked by one player, and stood no chance at all. He warp scrambled me and I was just watching 70+mil disappear before I had even spent 30 minutes mining. I had Hobgoblins II but they barelly scratched him lol. Anyway that was my last EVE experience, I am not grinding for a new Retriever. o7
@@lorumerthgaming Nice video, you have a great persona, so it's easy watching and informative. I also laughed at the 'Reclaimer' slip, but it's all good, we know what you meant. D-Scan and the align is important for when there's trouble once in a blue moon, but overall, It just feels tranquil mining while making some ISK mining in HiSec. I have been in a corp in null and participated in most of the other career options EVE has to offer. Mining offers an alternative for when one just wants to relax while making some ISK to fund all the other diverse activities EVE has to offer. Like after a hard day at work. Thanks for making this video. I really enjoyed it. ;)
Hi, my main char is focused on PVP skills and Capital skills but I always got interested on Mining, I actully have and alter who can mine Merco but it is really hard to sell compressed so I need to reprocess the merco and sell it, but High Sec Mining always got me interested in some point, but is really profitable enough to pay the plex for itself? Cause I need something like that leave it be Semi AFK and Making enough money for at least pay the plex on it's own
Loru Gaming, try re-uploading the video and deleting this one after you try 3 Medium Transversal Bulkheads mid, 1 dmg controll bottom and 3 bullkheads doown bottom multispectru,m mid, shield extender mid and a command ship that booshes you away from the belt along with a command vessel that bosts your overa shield resit, another for armor and run implants with that fit and tell us you cant make it even more tankier than how you claimed this video was.
8:45 thats not aligned. youre not aligned to anything, youre stationary. When youre stationary it doesnt matter where you will be warping to, warp off will be the same. If you are worried about being ganked, pick a belt that has celestial objects in all directions, go above your mining drones and keep aligning to different objects to circle above your drones.
As someone who mines and does pvp and ganking and gatecamps and most suff in EvE. Peiple wont just kill you cos they think you have goodies. We will jill you just for the kill mail.nothing more. And we will take great pleasure in blowi g you up at a loss to ourselves. Just to anoy you.
Eve online be like I’m in high sec de scan I’m in low sec de scan I’m in abyssal dead space de scan… but it doesn’t work in abyssal dead space I don’t care de scan 😅
But let’s be real here I would have lost 100 ships if I didn’t have de scan and if you didn’t show me de scan in your videos I would have never used it Ty loru
