I was hired by the US Secret Service to build something for them pretty important, and along the lines of what you're discussing. They called me up one day, no names, and asked me to build something so small and significant that I almost forgot about our appointment. When I showed up to meet them, they were like, "We're assuming you know where you are now?" What they wanted was totally different than what they described on the phone - I'm guessing that was the "weeding out" you describe. Was one of the coolest experiences of my career. To this day I have no idea why they hired this 25 year old kid, but I'll never forget the experience. When you get a chance to do something really cool, soak up every second of it.

I didn't think I qualified for what you meant about high security until you started talking about the barriers and layers. The 2 years I did desk duty and perimeter patrol at the county courthouse was my exposure to that. We had to do X ray and pat downs with vetting and certified regular training. The deputies have some pretty cool bullet proof desks that roll around. They have super thick glass and hold all the big bang bangs in case they need more firepower. They all have shields at their desks too. Shotguns and mp7s from what I could tell. You are right about the infiltration part, all that stuff takes money, manpower and training.

One of the biggest things that can compromise security is ego. People tend to get real proud of their work, and they like to talk about it. It gets people in a lot of trouble quite frequently. A miniscule detail, that seems fairly inconsequential can cause a lot of problems when divulged to the wrong person.

A fixed fortification in a strategic location can be effective. Patton was speaking to a relic of a WWI mentality. the Maginot line was ridiculously built knowing these war machines were being developed quickly. WWI brought us the tank and the emergence of aircraft used in war. Those two developments render fixed positions a grave. But given ground force on force like you yourself mention later is, "go ahead and cross that open ground sucker". If the Spartans had not been betrayed their fixed position strategically placed would have defeated a force 100x larger than the defenders. I would really like an up armored Stryker with a M1128 MGS companion piece. Guess I'll have to wait until I find an abandoned one?!

Low tech is harder to hack especially when you get down to the human level of knowing your neighbor or even the dude across town. It's not all 1s and 0s. But I will also say, and maybe I'm way off base here, that even in some the people I watch on these channels communicate with pictures or items placed in view off to the side or something. I don't get the message cause I'm not part of that inner circle but I see it happening. Or at least I think I do.
