I've been doing a lot of work with salinity and SAR issues on baseball infield skins in the southwest. The frequent shallow watering with often reclaimed water results in salinity higher than the pacific ocean. Typical SAR's around 50 plus. It's my contention that calcined clay which is used on every field accelerates the salt and SAR build up. Since these soils do not drain they are impossible to fix. Issues include poor water movement, sticky soil, poor shear strength of the clay. I have a soils degree from UMASS and I love your radio show. I'll bet you never looked at the Dodgers playing and knew about a salt issue on the field.
