As I see it, this can't be a typical farm, some farms couldn't afford one of those rigs let alone two, here in the UK England those farms are few and far between , as for direct drilling ,it does cut down on the expense of tillage operations, I'm an old dinosaur at 62, I still like to see a field ploughed/plowed where all the old foliage and rubbish is buried and new seed is put into fresh soil. Great video, farm labourers now days don't know they are born👍🤭

This technic is called "no till". It is used in regions, where it doenst rain often and the wind is very strong. The soil can keep some moisture, because the ground is only touched a little bit. Its also good against erosion.

240 acres a day is really impressive indeed, the auto-steer is very impressive, this is a massive operation that seems to run very smoothly. Great video btp. 👍👍

If you make it up here you'll get to see some huge seeders, not just the tool bars over 80ft but with Bourgault's 1300bus seed tank with 9 compartments, our Morris is only 51ft and 450 bus. Those JD para link make a nice job

how far apart distance wise is this farm vs the other large farm you film at in Kentucky that does a lot of tillage?

Wheat. Why do the farmers use the no till process vs tilling fields ? Nice tractors. Enjoyed BTP Episode🚜👍

You mentioned some kind of fly for not seeding before mid-Oct. What is that fly and what does it do to the wheat crop if planted to soon? Thanks for the videos.
@terrellfarms1
@terrellfarms1 4 года назад
The fly is Hessian Fly. They lay their eggs in the stem of the wheat plant. When the plant matures it weakens the stem and they fall over or lodge. Makes for difficult harvesting and lowers yields.

Do they do any winter crop between 2nd crop soybeans and corn? Have they considered canola for that short window?
@thenderson5509
@thenderson5509 4 года назад
I would recommend 50ft of edge cover between the crop and tree line. This will eliminate the need to trim trees. Roots will not rob crop of needed moisture. Wildlife will thank you for the habitat.

Looks like someone needs to do some serious brush clearing on the field boarders, they're certainly wasting a lot of ground around the outside !!! Just one of my pet peeves with ground being so high priced and sought after , easier to reclaim what's already youre'sthan find more but it's a little sweatier job ! Did somebody already create a boarder with another machine for these tractors to follow ? No-till certainly has come a long way in a relatively short period of time ,good thing for everyone concerned !!! Thanks for the video !

Let me know if you ever get down towards North West Alabama. We have about 4,000acres that we farm. We grow Cotton, Peanuts and Soybeans. We haven't grown corn in a few years because the morning glories had created a big issue for the harvest. We are going to try again next year to see if we have it back under control. You can check out my Facebook page. I have hundreds of pictures and videos on there. Tim Dodd from Hamilton Alabama. It's the profile with me in my Peterbilt in a red tank top. And says Bottomland Farm's

I see no PTO drive from the tractor. Is the air seeder, as well as the loading auger, driven by full flow oil driving hydraulic motors on the air drill?

Btp u said they gonna harvest winter wheat all the way till june. That means it takes at least 8 an a haf months for whaet to mature. Men thats a long time. We're used to tops 4 months for pur crops here in belize.
@bigtractorpower
@bigtractorpower 4 года назад
Well in December, January and February it will be 20 to 30 degrees out. The wheat will be dormant at that time. It begins growing again in March. Our climate is not as warm as Central America.

I'm jealous. I wish that the dairy I work for owned an air seed cart. They spent around $40K on a John Deere 7800 Tractor because they lost a 4450 Tractor in a fire.
@coryfritz295

ChampionEgy YT That’s a bummer. 4450 is a damn good tractor.
@JacobDoffing42
@JacobDoffing42 4 года назад
@@coryfritz295 yep. It was a good tractor while it lasted. Could've been worse. They had a 455 planter that got a small lick of the fire but they still have it and got it fixed up good as new.

What would the moisture level be with green leaf corn? Just curious and thanks.
@bigtractorpower
@bigtractorpower 4 года назад
Around 20%. It worth it to harvest and dry and be ready for wheat. The leaves are also green because fungicide keeps the plant healthier. The green leaves feed better and build up less than 14% plants.
@rustynail2205
@rustynail2205 4 года назад
bigtractorpower thanks for the answer. Here in SW, Ontario we typically can only plant winter wheat after beans. Nice to see how you can double crop, and run the land differently than us.

That's a lot of tractor to have the same hp as a mfwd row crop tractor. Why wouldn't they use a higher hp machine? The air seeder doesn't seem to pull that hard most videos I've seen of yours show at least a 420 hp tractor
@3.6roentgen61
@3.6roentgen61 4 года назад
Simple: higher HP = more expensive. It can be nice having a bigger articulated tractor for some jobs too. Less likely to get stuck is usually the main benefits.
