Hi Guys...so Listen I spent a lot of time and effort making this tutorial but I am seriously NOT happy with it.
Way Too long, some stupid mistakes on my part (the A100 Missiles speeds should be 4,000 + something) and there is much more to explain about each missiles dependency on RADAR targeting etc.. But Honestly the wife is at work & My little girl is at home and I would much rather spend time with her than work on a better version that this....I hope you all understand and can oversee the issue with this video. I nearly deleted it TBH, but there is some great content for new players to see how everything works together, so I will let it go live....but I will drop it if the feedback is poor because I am less than happy with it myself.

Hi Guys...so Listen I spent a lot of time and effort making this tutorial but I am seriously NOT happy with it. Air to air missiles are against other planes and missiles. They do not work against ships. You should use unguided rockets or bombs.

The reason why your own SG is not refueling is that their tanks are full, the surplus fuel you see there came from the salvage you got after the attack. The fuel will be sitting there until you station another ship with extra room in its tanks. Also, the AA missiles are for enemy missiles/planes, not ships.

It's interesting on your take of the IRST system, even at around 21:00 when you were mentioning how it's seemingly useless and wasn't even picking up the strike group at that range, it was actually indicating the strike group, and had been for a while at that point (for the times you had it pointed in the right direction). It does take a trained eye to spot things at a distance using IRST but even when you mentioned it I thought it was pretty obvious where exactly the SG was based only on the information of the IRST.

This. I was screaming at the monitor when he said it was useless xD It's also kinda hilarious that he keeps referring to the IRST (Infrared search and track) as a sonar.

Please, please stop calling IRST (InfraRed Search and Track) system "SONAR". Also, the "P" denotes anti-radiation, i.e. the missile homes in on an emitter, either radar or radar-jamming ("home on jam"). You already demonstrated that the "regular" missiles (without "P'') use their own radars to home in on targets when you launched them at undetected targtes far beyond own-ship radar tracking range and still hit things.

A tip I just tested out to make sure you are properly armed when starting: Build a ship with the minimum requirements (one fuel tank, some power, and an engine) then stuff it FULL of all the missiles, rockets, bombs.. whatever you want. Add that ship to your fleet and right when you start the game just go into to the shipworks in Ur and put the armaments in your storage then sell the ship. You'll get a full refund so you can overstock it if you don't feel like customizing it for each fleet. Then boom you don't have to worry about running out of missiles or anything if you don't find a good shop.

Oddly I noticed that if I added a missile back onto the ship from my inventory it still would cost the price of the missile in repairs, as if I was buying the missile from the city. If I sold ALL of the missile type I was reinstalling to whatever city I was at, and then added the missile back it would cost the same price, so it seems like some sort of bug where you are buying it from your own storage.. so if say you fired your kh-15s and want some from storage back on your ship, first you sell all your kh-15s to the city, make the money off that, and then spend the money you made selling the kh-15s to install them and buy back the rest. This game can be weird. Don't know if that is a bug for just me, or for if you do the "exploitish" tactic I mentioned, or if it's always like that for installing missiles you are carrying in your cargo.

​@@OK-gk2vhThe repair cost is a visual bug. I've tested it and noticed that you won't lose money on parts if it's already in the inventory.

Fantastic Video! I learned a lot, and will use missiles more now that i know how to use them. I might add one thing, at 21:50, there is a signal on the IR. The display for the IR signal is the small square display above the IR compass. At that timestamp, there is a decent sized signal mid air at 274* shown as a vertical line on the IR display. Thanks for making this.

13:30 to help you with this ELINT 1 will give you different information depending on your ELINT range. So if your fleet having a ship with 1500km ELINT, ELINT 1 = enemy is closer than 1500km, but not more than a 1200km, ELINT 2 = enemy is closer than 1200km, but not more than a 900km, and so on. So take each ELINT as a 1500/5 = 300km or 750/5 = 150km and so on. This is the only correct way to calculate it. I am not sure what ELINT range your fleet had at this moment, so i will assume that it was about 750km since i can't see Sevastopol in your strike group. That mean at 13:00 enemy was in range of somewhere between 750km and 600km, but 700km will be more precise. If you had 1500km ELINT at that moment, that would mean enemy was at least 330 degree and about 1350km away from your strike group at that moment. To add more, you can triangulate the exact position of your enemy by using another group with same ELINT range to send it further west or east and then use first group and ruler to mark on map 1500km of line in the direction of the detected rad source, and then do the same with other group. Where 2 lines will cross each other, that's where enemy is at the moment, and that would be the most efficient way and moment to strike them with missile, if you know their speed. Hope this clarify it. Video is fine, keep it up o7

11:51 they aren't refueling because they have more fuel than their tankers can carry. Happens when you capture fuel from the enemy. Until they empty their tanks they won't refuel.

I tend to send one ship ahead....then retreat before they kill it.....Sometimes I die but often they use all their defences one the first ship and they escape.

Air to air missiles are against other planes. Enemy fleet ships are not aircrafts, you need to bomb, rocket etc them. Those AA missiles are having small warheads, think on them like AIM-9s in modern planes. Also, all the missiles fired properly. ballistic missiles have to land directly on targets. You hit ground with them. The med range missiles a100 got out of fuel before they got to target (you shoot outside their max range)

It seems there isnt much research into the game yet and the manual (even the pdf version) is rather very simple, but i am game dev programmer so I see patterns under the hood where other ppl may not :D

Great video! I've only been playing this game a couple of days, and this video taught me a lot about systems I haven't even used yet in my game. I have yet to launch a single missile, but I'm going to start using them in my current campaign!

I wish if you would fire missile salvos all of them would enter the combat area together and not one by one. It's too easy to shoot them down this way. Hopefully the dev will adjust these things later.

They fire one at a time which is semi-realistic, so even if you send 3 they will arrive one after the other....however, if you time an R3 correctly....then maybe?

maybe they dont want to make missiles that powerful, cause both side of this war has such equipments (not like those wars America had been into since Cold War ended), and it might be too frustrating if player got hit by four missiles or so at a time. If they made it only players can fire all missiles together, it would just seem strange. Just saying what i have been thinking.

I bought this game today and played for 75 minutes. I was overwhelmed and refunded it because I was worried I'd loose $30 for a game I wouldn't play. Problem being I can't stop thinking about it, lol. I've been watching hours of videos on it and debating about buying it again. This game seems amazing but the learning curve is so high and I'm intimidated by it. I just don't understand how to play it and get the most out of it. This video was very insightful.

So if you take a ship like the Gepard, which has four 37mm autocannons, and throw a radar on it, do you think it would be effective as a decoy? I'm thinking it could intentionally leave its radar on and have a better chance of shooting down missiles that target it than other ships. That's assuming the strike groups can run out of missiles.

Every time I see a game (or any other media) use the term "Danger Close" without it being used 'correctly', I die a little inside. Before anyone says anything, yes I know the term has been cannibalized (much like clip vs magazine), it just irks me that Microprose of all studios would get it wrong. /endsoapbox

@@SimUKReviews "Danger Close" is called to an artillery operator to signify that friendlies are in or near the area of the fire mission being requested. This way they know not to walk the fire in a certain direction (such as a creeping barrage), and that they can't be sloppy with the accuracy of their munitions else they risk blue on blue. Books, films, games, all use Danger Close to mean danger is close, rather than allies are dangerously close. It's a small detail, but an irritating one for me.

So when you eliminate a strike group, do the respawn into the map again? I love your game plan of dealing with one straight out the gate. I just hope when I try for that too, all my work isnt for nothing.

They don't respawn, but others will come, so have an escape route planned (or a hidden city)

​@@SimUKReviews very similar gameplay to what I've seen in your video, but (can be) much more complex and it uses RL weapon platforms. Learning curve can be quite steep, but it's worth it imo. I am pretty sure HighFleet strategic part is inspired by it.

I'm pretty sure thoise air-to-air missiles are meant for intercepting other planes and cruisemissiles. You could have loaded the planes with rockets and they would have fired those against the ships.

Just gonna throw this out there, IRST (Infra Red Search & Track) is not the same as SoNAR (SOund Navigation And Ranging). I know it's a silly thing, but they are vastly different in function and purpose.

Air to air missiles on aircraft only fire at aircraft unguided missiles on aircraft fire at enemy airships. That was the reason your aircraft didn’t fire their missiles at 28:30

The way you can tell missiles in battle are at the top left 1st type is bombs second type unguided anti airship and third type anti aircraft used to combat enemy aircraft from carriers

Loved this video. You covered a very complex topic in great detail and explained well in a real-game situation. Don't beat yourself up about quality too much, all the best creative types do, so it's perfectly normal, folk would never improve in anything if they thought everything was always ok. You are the best person I've found doing videos about Highfleet, and it's really necessary as the game is way too opaque in terms of explaining core functions of the UI and game mechanics. Difficulty, mixture between (but not defined) how many enemies you face and the level of those ships (faster movement and reload times etc..)

the anti aircraft missiles are ONLY used against other aircraft and shooting down cruise missiles in flight that's why they didn't use them against the enemy strike group

I downloaded some ships from the net and put them in Highfleet / Objects / Designs. The problem is that I can't see them in either the Shipwork or the New Campaign. What am I doing wrong?

@@Trifler500 The A-100 actually is really great at shooting down other missiles! It can shoot moving targets like a SG but it is, in my opinion, way more useful to intercept other missiles.

Is their damage the same as the Zenit's, but with strategic range? I'm having trouble getting a feel for the damage values.

One hit from the cruising missile would make one forth of a armored light cruiser vanished in a blaze , and sometimes kills it on spot. But that doesn't make it impossible for a corvette to survive a direct hit. So it would be no, their damage is not the same as the Zenit's, at least the case if both missiles hit the armored blocks. But I haven't tried the other two, I guess they might have more significant damage?

I really, really don't get your hatred and dismissal of IRST. Yes, it has a short range, but virtually any enemy patrol or strike group that could pose a threat to you also has radar warning receivers/ELINT and can be alerted to you using radar. If you know you're in a dangerous area, killing radar and utilizing the IRST can minimize you getting missile spammed or getting hit with aircraft strikes. Imagine radar like you having a gigantic super bright floodlight in absolute darkness and twirling it in a circle above your head every second. Whereas IRST is like having a pair of night vision or FLIR/thermal imaging goggles on. You emit nothing more than your ships already do with nothing turned on. On super large ships, it's less useful because your radar signature is massive, but on small strike craft you send out with small radar cross sections? You can get well within range of seeing them on IRST and emitting no radar signals. I think 400km is the range limit. Now, granted, it doesn't aid you in tracking targets and firing missiles like radar does... but you can also turn on your radar, launch, and then turn off your radar once your missile no longer needs tracking from it.

IRST like Sonar is limited to approximation. I do t use radar at all really and find the radio and the ELINT the only scan systems I need.

You lost a lot of time on ballistic missiles and fighters, causing little damage to the strike team. It's easier to build a ship with 24 guns (57mm) and break everyone's faces. Yes, it will cost 75k, but it will last you the entire campaign. Repair of armor is possible in every city, but there is no replenishment of fighters and ballistic missiles.

No, they have whatever fuel you assign them....and planes have limitation set by the AC.

@@Trifler500 Don't think so, Trade ships refuel and SG repair so I would think they'd refuel too. You often intercept messages saying "need refuel" or the likes as well.
