Bryan Cranston, Steven Michael Quezada, Neil Patrick Harris, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, and more than a dozen other actors, athletes, and politicians with ties to Albuquerque get together for an unforgettable celebration of the Class of 2020.
“This is our lemonade moment,” said APS Superintendent Raquel Reedy. “The current public health threat means the traditional graduation ceremonies are postponed, so we looked to the virtual platforms our seniors know so well and found a new way to come together. We hope our seniors, their families, and friends organize live small- group viewings, or huge virtual watch parties with as many people as they’d like to invite.”
This was supposed to have been graduation week for Albuquerque Public Schools.
When New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham extended a public health order in April that closed schools for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year, APS and school districts across the state had no choice but to but to postpone or cancel graduation ceremonies. While APS hasn’t given up hope of rescheduling some form of commencement during the summer, the district wanted to do something for seniors during what was to have been graduation week.
