@@leed4162 actually he’s Egyptian. In the 15th century he took the name Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez, and worked for King Charles. Yet in both movies he talks with his Scottish accent, and yes the played bagpipes during this scene for no reason at all lol.

Has bad as this movie is, it's Sean Connery that makes movie memorable, he and lamberts scenes together are always good. Just awesomely chews the scenes has Ramirez, Sean Connery proves to be a win.
As a Scottish Highlander myself, I still truly don't get how or why they cast a Frenchman as a Scotsman, and a Scotsman as an Egyptian (corrected) but being made to be a "Spanish Peacock" lol.... RIP to another one of my countrymen.

He wanted them dead because he knew as long as Ramirez, McCleod and the girl were alive, the satellite was in jepoardy of being destroyed which in the end it was, but also he wanted to keep the whole thing to himself so he could get money from government in order to shield themselves from the radiation.
This movie left much to be desired, but this scene is one of my top 10 favorite goodbye scenes. 1:29 to 1:45 The look Connor gives Ramirez as he turns to walk away is so full of respect, emotion and sadness. I did the same thing to my grandfather right before he passed away. 2:14 to 2:29 I believe that if truly came down to just Connor and Ramirez, they’d be friends forever and not take each other’s heads. Love and friendship are all that matters. Who cares about the prize?
If any story previously had led up to this moment, it would be legendary. It was never established that immortals could do supernatural things, but it wouldn't have taken much.
At the end of the first movie he was able to see everything and hear everyone thoughts,he had the power to do whatever he wanted over the world. Yet just wanted to live a mortal life instead.

This is the best description of the "one last full shaken up can of whoop ass" each of us are packing. If, when all else is lost you bear full measure all that is you, in opposition to whatever stands in your way, you can overcome it, leveling everything in your path. This is the statement of BADASS. We are, after all, made just "a little less" than the angels. If it takes only one of them to wipe out Sennacherib's army of 185,000 men, think of what power lives within us.
I think he had plenty of time to get out of there himself I also think Connery figured he'd better get the hell outta the movie before anyone blamed him for the script.. zeist.. what the hell were they thinking for crying out loud. They had the perfect storyline in the first place they should have left it alone.
He was already dead, that was the entire point of his sacrifice in this scene. He focused all of his life into 'one time in one place' in order to save them. There WAS no getting out for him after that.
I know a lot of people say the movie is bad. While the renegade version is much better, it still isn't liked very much. But I will defend it. This scene is likely the best scene in all of the Highlander series, the only one that comes close is the duel with the Kurgan.
Nice scene but did anyone else notice that Ramirez stuck his sword into the ground at his feet when he started and left it there so that it was destroyed when he was? But then later in the film Conner has it somehow?
Best scene from one of the worst movies ever. It’s a shame to see Connery looking so frail now as he was such an amazing actor and a real physical presence.
There are so many things wrong with this movie. This movie was the beginning of the end for Highlander. Not only did we get this awful movie but three sequels that were just as bad. The Highlander franchise had so much potential - the first movie is still a classic. I know the story goes there was so much behind the scenes issues but there had to be way more than that for this travesty. All things considered this was maybe the only good scene in the movie. I was at a convention a few years ago in Atlanta and met Christopher Lambert. At his signing table he refuse to answer questions about the Highlander franchise and the same at his panel.

+thunderstrike2525 onslaught2015 I love the scene but the film is absolute SHIT! They introduced an alien planet to justify their immortality. WHY? Ramirez explanation from the first Highlander was beautiful and satisfying.
Apparently the investors were an insurance company in Argentina and one of their terms was that they would get creative control if the film went over budget - which it did, thanks to the massive inflation taking place in the country - so they sought the recoup their investments by making a movie THEY thought would make the most money.
But I believe it to be true in aspects of life. If you can summon up everything you have at one time and one place. You can accomplish something....large!
