@@xjuhox One doesn't need Japanese iron to create an übersword... Just a few kinds of steels, a heap of skill and common sense will suffice... In any case no Toyota fender ever made a more then half descent a sword...
I remember watching this as a teenager, and loving this scene because of the music and of course the little conversation they have at the end of the scene before going to bed together... I was immensely pleased and surprised when the TV series used this same song during the montage of scenes at the end of the series finale. I saw the first film when I was about 10 years old, I'm 42 now, and Highlander (the franchise as a whole) is still one of my top 3 favorite fictional universes.
Forging a powerful steel sword up in the Scottish Highlands during an early Spring day then training rigorously & gracefully with it would be nothing less than a dream come true......
My best friends mom love this franchise, she had all the series and movies. She died a few years ago and he gave me all her highlander stuff so when i see anything highlander i always think of her
Same with me and my father, my father died a few years ago himself, loved watching the highlander movies and tv shows himself, loved the music of queen too, got all the highlander movies and shows myself, even all the queen albums as well, they are such classic shows and music you will never get or hear again
@Adam look at the little bitch can't come up with anything original so he liked his own comment. What a little bitch. Must be upset his Daddy didn't pull out. What a little bitch.
Much of the mix-ups in this movie hint at the lives these characters live through hundreds of years of experience and travel. I have always wondered about Sean Connery's character. He was called The Spaniard, spoke with a Welsh accent, dressed like a French fop, and carried a Japanese katana with a carved ivory dragon handle. What did that man live through to gather those vastly different elements into a single life?
@R & C Outdoors! the fact that his accent is so bizarre just adds to his mystique... He is a really convincing actor in every way, especially at being The Highlander
I once managed to forge my own sword using a throw away BBQ and tent peg mallet. It’s no Hattori Hanzo but it can still hold up to an attack from a Cordless Dyson.
Unfortunately, unless you are 14, ANYTHING is a better love story than twilight, However, especially with Bonnie Portmore in the background, this is a great start for a love story,
SinsationalMike I agree. Lol. Haven’t watched this scene since I was like 14. I knew nothing about forging a sword then but even then I was like he is awful when using the sword. He just swings it around. Lol. At least with Adrian Paul and the series they attempted to make him look like he knew what he was doing, though he rarely wielded it like you would a Samurai sword. Watching this scene now makes me cringe.
I love this setting. The ruins of a tower. The forging of a new blade. I love scenes of castles and blacksmiths. Kingdom of Heaven is the best, but I do love this old tower scene.
@@michschep7601 " son of an american diplomat" He's the son of a FRENCH diplomat, posted at the United Nations in New York, which is why he was born in the US. Neither his father or mother were Americans. Why do people like you make comments like this without even bothering to fact check yourself first. It's public information. "Although born in the USA, Lambert is French. His father was a French diplomat stationed in the US at the United Nations at the time of Lambert's birth. "
The question remains. How on gods earth did he get the role? The second question remains. How on gods earth did someone so wrong for the role put in such an incredible performance? Genius casting. Genius film.
Well it was the 80s A time when a bunch of guys with funny accents and weird backgrounds became movie stars. Actually if I were to rank Christopher Lambert among his peers like Arnold, Stallonne, Van Damme etc. He’d probably be the most normal one.
He's an aweful blacksmith, look at all the iron he's wasting kekw French guy making a japanese sword in Scottland while an irish song playes in the background.
Ron Miller Hi Ron well nope I think the late 80s and the entire decade of the 90s was the best of times... Worse year ever 2016... What a disaster lol...
@@ComplexGinger Totally random comment. What are you a Russian bot lol better yet a Trump supporter... Not much difference in IQ... I know you got offended by the 2016 comment hahaha... You people are so transparent...
After the master piece that was the first one nothing could beat it. But the 3rd is worth watching for this scene alone. Just perfect! Deborah Unger is beautiful!
Awesome scene!!! When I was about 8 years old I watched this, went to the basement of my house, made a fireplace, took a piece of metal and believed I would forge my own sword! I was a very faithful child. :)
When I was a child, I went to the spot where connor macleod climbed the hill above eilean donan castle in the first highlander film, but then again, I am a highlander myself.
@@RaikenXion that and that blade seen him through near 450 years of life and was his teachers. His first sword was one of many Claymore designs. They all didn't have the quatrefoil design on the hilt or even the great leaf overall design we've all seen on the two handed Claymore. The basket hilt single and double edged design came much later.
He spent over 400 years learning how to fight with a katana. It could be argued that he'd be a master of many weapons by then. But the katana holds special, personal meaning for him, so he would have even greater skill because of that focus.
I won't lie, when Ramirez's original sword shattered, it was heartbreaking to see. It was like the last bit of his existence was lost forever. They did well in creating a sword that had a personal history with Macleod, but still, it will never be the same.
I won't lie either; I died laughing. The way the sword snaps then explodes just had me in tears. In story, it was heartbreaking. But like most things in this movie it was executed very poorly.
CowabungaWo101 to be fair, MacLeod and Kanevwere committing a severe immortal no-no: fighting on Holy Ground. Under normal circumstances, nothing would shatter that blade, but the powers that be over the Game was letting know that it was Holy Ground and what they were doing was wrong.
Watching this scene again makes me appreciate Highlander 3, Especially compared to the awful Star Wars sequel trilogy, In my Opinion, Highlander 3 had its storytelling together compared to the Star Wars sequel movies, In this particular scene that I loved - I must thank the RU-vidr Tomas Tree for posting this - We have the story of Macleod forging his new sword, Chris Lambert & Deborah Kara Unger tell this part of the story wonderfully, With the help of a good screen play by Brad Mirman, William Panzer, And Gregory Widen, This "Story within a Story" here Is shown In an entertaining way, The music was excellent also, It was by Lorena Mckennitt and Her band, I know one song was Bonny Portmore, And the other song was Instrumental music parts of the song "The Two Trees" If memory serves me correctly. Anyway, I love Highlander 3, I love Lorena Mckennitt, And I particularly love this part of the film, I wish the writers Mirman, Panzer, And Widen were writing the Star Wars sequel trilogy, I think that they would have done a better job. Here are links to the aforementioned songs by Mckennitt and her band: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aFlLH_KxUis.html The Two Trees ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pLtVxQpXQtY.html Bonny Portmore
Alot of frenchmen are scots since before paris was ruled by the romans the gaelics had it and the normans of frankia and vikings head into scotland ireland and parts of north england all of europe shares one common ancestry warriors and explorers
darkmster 6 your going back to a whole other culture and time that's not even related in what I'm depicting, but I guess ur looking to pick a debate stemming from my comment, which a debate isn't even what I was or am interested in, only a passing thought.
Best scene of the movie. When the music starts, I always feel like choking up. I think they used this song also in Highlander TV series when Duncan goes back to Scotland. A beautiful episode.
+Serbian Alien Season 4 was the last good season. I don't know wtf happened during Season 5, but I stopped watching at Season 6 I think. I'll have to rewatch it and just.. force myself through the last two seasons.. But Season 1-4 are great and some episodes are true solid golds.
Zeithri Adrian Paul took half of season 6 off 2 do 1 of the movies. Major miscalculation. Once they killed Richey off at the end of season 5, I had no interest in it. Bad enof they killed off Darius in the 1st season, which I liked that character & woulda like 2 c more of that 1 played out, but then killed off Tessa. I almost quit then. Richey's death meant there wouldn't b a spinoff with him in it, whole time it first aired, I was expecting that til his death, & meant all the original characters but Macs was gone. Wasn't the same anymore.
But wait, how did Richy come back in the final tv movie( which was horrible and Richy was played by another actor and a older one at that!!!) that put a closer on the TV series???
Yes, you can never trivialize a contribution from Queen but "Highlander" was a solid flick. A differing plot, interesting characters, definitely a worthwhile heavy. Had this one not been virtually the same movie with a different cast, it could've been better than what we got (should've just given the series' writers a shot at it. Most likely would've turned out better for everybody.)
@@alecmacleod9147 Connor's thoughts: shit. She's using a practical battering ram to get in. Doing her is going to happen any damn way, none of the standard push-away techniques are working. Might as well say the "line" enjoy it, and get it over with.
After watching a single Kenshin movie, he moves like a slow motion, but still I melted after watching this short video. In the first few minutes I also did not understand now, how did he get the role, especially with this funny voice (I watched the movie as kid on a different language), but in the second half I said to myself: nah, that is why he IS THE Macleod.
The most powerful moment of any of the movies. Right at the and of the clip. She knew who he is. Se knows. She figured it out despite centuries of obfuscation. She KNEW who he was. He did not reveal it, neither did he leave any particular clues. She knew, she knew him and she had some inkling of what she was getting into with him. This is not perfect, but it is more than we can say about many female protagonists.
The year after, she was in Crash. Highlander was just a practice run.....the entertainment biz has been pushing the porn envelope for 50 years. Gratuitous and unnecessary.
Still Legendary no matter what ppl says .i Agree its too cheesy . Only if thay had more better producer with little more seriouse story and details .This thema could be one of the best ever made on Film cinema . Actor is born for this rolle Cristopher Lambert was so intresting actor . he had something in the eyes and the voice also . He carry on the Rolle and brought something spetial with his character .But unfortunatly never had luck to work with seriouse producents . And still no matter what i grown up on this movie and the Highlander is movie of my youth .. :)
OK, first things first: Some movies don't need a sequel; they tell a good story and ought to leave it at that. 'Highlander' was one of those movies. The sequels were all useless dreck and the series just buggered up the franchise lore. All that said, I think Deborah Unger was better female lead than Roxanne Hart. Pity you can't mix-and-match, but there it is.
TAKE OUT THE WHOLE ALIENS PART & 2nd movie script/storyline...leaving all as dark, romantic, sad as the 1st film...and its fantastic. it is kinda cool yet strange that Roxanne Hart bears a good resemblance( in the 1st film) to retired actress Patricia McPherson.... I hope the redo is not crappy/campy as so many other good movie redo's have killed possible good solid franchise (except Bond -Hello, Adrian Paul as 007-- he'd be great ! )
As a man with a lot of Gaelic blood and a Japanese fiancé, this scene just hits right. This was the true sequel to Highlander. Song of the Gaels with Bonnie Portmore and Japanese katanas
What I like about it is, is that it reaches out back to highlander 1 where after Ramerez was killed by the Kurgan and Heather died, he went to Japan to train more on how to use a katana.
Prior to filming Batman Begins, it is crystal clear Nolan did his homework with the first Highlander & this one. Makes me wish Lambert was Ra's al Ghul.
It amazes me who so many are willing to critique a movie that is fictional, as if any part of it was based on actual life history itself. Relax people it's a movie.
They don't have time in a movie to cover everything and they know 99% of the audience doesn't know or care about the particulars of making a sword. Plus he's 500 years old, maybe he knows tricks to shorten the work.
There will come a time when the bullets will run out when gun's will become nothing more than club's...the magic of the sword will return it's the only weapon that never needs reloading
If you can't kill your target, or at least put someone down long enough to get a closer & cleaner shot, shouldn't be wasting your bullets. Can't use it as a club if you can't put them down with the bullets.
Well he was very frustrated on his first attempt. It was only when he saw Mako's mark on the ingot, that he got himself calmed down enough to properly remember what he was doing. He didn't want is friend's gift to go to waste in a fit of frustration.
The metals he'd been using were inferior, and resulted in inferior swords which Connor threw away in frustration. When he got the special metal bar, originally made by Mako, he knew he had the right metal, forged and folded all those centuries before. That's when he made a worthy successor to the original katana.
4:50 everytime I run, I have this soundtrack playing everywhere I go. The look on other peoples face is priceless because they don't know where it's coming from.
I can't say much for this movie, but I can say this. It sparked my interest in approaching professional sword smiths, and asking them if they could forge me a metal ingot with their stamp emblazoned on it.
I found this film to be quite uneven, there were bits like this that were good, but several others that did not work. The humour did not work well and Peebles was okay but lacked the menace of Brown. In fact all the spinoffs seemed to have a problem with the main antagonists, they all seemed to be pale copies of the Kurgan, however much a nutjob they were. If they do a re-boot, they need to find fresh ideas for that role and a new actor to apply their stamp to it. I fear though it will be more of the same.
so wait all we gotta do to get a hot blonde is swing around a homemade sword, jog around some and get her to believe we're Immortal? Check I got that. Where's Lauren Southern?
@@QoQabai658 Yes, Christopher Lambert (or as Brian May calls him - Christophe Lambert) is french, but he is "french-american", however he lived in different places like Geneva, Switzerland etc as a child since his father was the french ambassador to the United Nations
It’s amazing the tools and metals he left behind haven’t rusted away after all these centuries. Also, why didn’t she just bring him the sword blade as well?
Lambert didn't pay much attention during sword wielding classes. Putting his left leg in front all the time while striking with a right handed double grip lol
We use a variety of sources for our longsword and backsword training. Tend to favour right foot forward when striking from the right. Nice to see an homogenous piece of steel used but a little hand and arm protection wouldn't have gone amiss.
With everything today being about correct this and correct that, I forgot what it was like to watch a movie to be entertained, and just to watch a movie. If this was made today, it would probably fail to all the couch potato critics. But it was not... and it is still a great movie.
Funny fact: Poland has probably the most strict rules concernig firearms so very few people own them. The same with baseball bat - not allowed to posses one. On the other hand knives, swords and such are not recognised as weapons, so you can not only posses them, but you can carry them wherever you want.
What is not true? Which part of my statement? Do you have any idea about Polish law or you just post anything for the fun of posting? Can you read Polish at all?
