In this video, you will learn how to highlight both rows and columns with conditional formatting in Google Sheets. In order to highlight the entire row or column for your worksheet, you first have to select a range for your table. To access conditional formatting go to Format - Conditional Formatting. Then you have to create formatting based on a custom formula.
It is important to add a $ dollar sign to the column and row that will serve as the testing criteria. If you are using the dropdown menu to specify which row or column needs to be selected, you need to also use absolute reference for the selection, in order for the entire row or column, not just the cell to be highlighted.
This is a very effective way to highlight both, row and column, with the use of conditional formatting to pinpoint an intersection of your data. It is very helpful in pinpointing data point that is selected based on user input and selection.
You will also learn about one main pitfall that can result in highlighting the wrong row or column and how to avoid that.
