This game felt like when you playing FIFA game against a bigger team and you outplay them and score first than they become unbeatable the rest of the match taking the win close to the end.
The Union weren't the big team in this situation, we lost 11 players due to covid, 6 of them were starters and our Goalie Andre Blake was one of them, and our entire defense
Before you all attack me, I have a great TV so it's not my TV and I have Time Warner Cable, Specrum, whatever you wanna call it. So it's not that, but c'mon MLS and ESPN! That picture quality was terrible, especially when you saw the whole field! It felt like something I was would in the 80's. There was like a white outline around every Union player and the fans faces were all blurry. Even the person I was watching the match with who doesn't follow the MLS thought it was bad quality. MLS and ESPN you are promoting the league and this is the best you can do? Fans can't accept these things anymore. We all need a higher standard. This also go with playing on turf, NFL lines in big matches.
It came across just fine here 📺 in New York with 📡 Optimum/Cablevision. Probably issues with the national satellite 🛰 feed. For some reason the highlights don’t look crisp. I hear you with everything else, anti-turf! ✌🏻
Well played Union (from a UK MLS fan), too bad the virus ruined your 1st teamers, but the reserves did you proud. That Jack McGlynn, 18yr old, looks about 12, but what a great player. Hope Union can hold on to him & a few of the other youngsters before they get snapped up by Europe.
Finally a New York sports team is on the cusp of glory. Hopefully they are New York's first champion of any sport (MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL, MLS) since the 2011 NY Giants
@@pepguardiola3739 Im not a fan of either team, didn’t really have a preference on who won, but you have to feel for the Union fans. Their complaints & criticism of this game being played has some validity.
extremely lucky plz I'm not an NYC fan but either way, a team needs to come into the field and execute if they lose did u hear any of the players on the team say we don't have our best players like Sergio Santos and Andre blake and didn't use it as their excuse. They lost ok accept it even colorado who performed better than portland for the regular reason lost a home game playoff match against the timbers the same case goes with NYC FC and Philly.
@@tjallday95 Philadelphia sports fans are just angry sore losers. They’re fanbase is awful are are known as probably the most toxic in sports. Union lost get over it and stop crying.
It came across just fine here 📺 in New York with 📡 Optimum/Cablevision. For some reason the highlights don’t look crisp here. If it came across poor quality for some, it probably had to do with the national broadcast satellite 🛰 feed.
I heard that NYCFC practiced all week on a regulation sized field at their training facilities. Coach even made the lads run extra laps to maintain the correct fitness for the match.
As a Philly fan after all that, and us sucking for such a long stretch of time in the 2010s, it hurts for this to be how the season ends, with an unlucky loss because of lack of players from Covid protocol.
The entire system doesn't make a lot of sense to me. The two teams in the final are not, what I would consider, the two best teams in the league. Just because they did better in the playoffs doesn't mean they deserve to be there.
I think we should go back to two legs. It allows for situations like this one where various players are unable to play, and keeps “luck” from being as much of a factor.
Go Union. It don't matter we still go to way against anyone in the city of brotherly love. Not a soccer fan, but I do pay attention and this loss hit me in the heart
If the game had been postponed, NYCFC would have still had a very good opportunity to win. If they did win, Union fans would then say "Our players weren't 100% because of COVID and it was unfair" and then if they won the cup, Timber fans would say "We only lost because we had 3 weeks off going into the final". There's always a excuse. Your team still needs to go out and execute. NYCFC figured it out tonight. They beat Atlanta, New England, & Philly. They didn't tip toe their way into the cup final. You're all delusional.
Not to mention, NYCFC was without two of their best players in Tinnerholm and Parks for the entire playoffs and without the golden boot winner in Castellanos against philly. They still got it done.
To be fair, there is a huge difference between playing a team full of homegrowns versus an actual MLS squad. You know the situation is bad when Nathan Harriel is the one in the goal-scoring situation and ends up getting thrown into the ocean by the commentators.
Wow the Championship will be two 4 seeds, I didn't see this coming. Pretty cool though, I always like it when the underdogs win in the playoffs, even if it was mostly due to covid issues.
@@COMMANDKLINO no team should be taking 3 weeks off before playing a critical possible season ending match. I think they should add a 8 seed for the playoffs so that the 1 seed has someone to play in the 1st round. Also personally I think MLS should have the stadium for the final determined at beginning of the season like UCL or NFL
Also needs to be a an actual trophy for winning your conference, I absolutely live the play offs but there should be more than supporters shield, the rapids and the revs both deserve a trophy IMO as well as whoever wins the play offs. Then the regular season would have merit and losing the play off doesn't take away from that and Visa versa, more to play for.
No, I'm sick of this Cascadia presence in MLS Cup. We finally got rid of the Flounders who make the final every year and now we have to deal with Portscum. Was rooting for Philly but at this point I'll take any team not located in the Pacific Northwest. Go New York City!!
Why not cheer for an Eastern Conference team (since 2008 only Columbus Crew had won the MLS Cup and I despise that club). Oops, the Toronto FC also won the trophy but eh can we not have Canadian teams in MLS if Mexico , Central America or Puerto Rico won't field a team from their leagues
What a year for the city group: Manchester City - English Premier League Champions + Champions League Final Melbourne City - A-League Championship + Premiership champions Mumbai City - Indian Championship + Premiership Champions Troyes ESTAC - Ligue 2 champions + Promoted And now New York City Easter Conference champions and first ever MLS Cup final....
MLS and Don Garber should be ashamed of themselves; first they take away home and away advantage & then they force teams to field 3rd or 4th tier players/GK's.
So close Philly, so close. The fact that the game was as close as it was surprised me. I feared that NYC would win 3-0 going into the match. Despite having 11 players out due to Covid, Philly put up one hell of a fight and made it very tough for the Ballboys. Philly was gritty, raw and aggressive, while the Smurfs looked lost and toothless for majority of the match. It’s just a shame that Philly lost their only lead within 90 seconds and gave them their second goal off a defensive blunder late in the game. Keep your heads up Philly fans, Etihad City beat Covid today, not the Philadelphia Union. If there’s a silver lining about it being Portland v. NYC in the final, it’s that it won’t be at Yankee Stadium and their microscopic “home field”. Here’s to hoping Portland crushes the Baby Blue Bitches. Good luck Timbers!
Monteiro to blame for the first goal, let's see who agrees with me. And overall, he was horrible down the stretch for us. Too many "let me take on 3 guys and not pass to the open teammate" situations. And Curtin was HORRIBLE on subs, like he always is. How do you let NYC sub 3 guys and not counter it when it was obvious we had 5 guys who could not breathe? Oh, and by the way, all 3 of those NYC subs were on the score sheet at the end of the game. Great season for us and happy with our club as we are the one true sports team in this city that uses players from our area.
Well it was not pretty especially the first 45 but after the subs came on the match shifted. Maxi played great and Magno got NYCFC there 1st piece of hardware. Congratulations to the Union who were missing many players but NYCFC was also missing some important players including the golden boot winner. It will be fun to face Timbers and our old Cosmo boss Gino. Should be a great match. GO NYCFC !!!⚽️😷😁👍⚽️🏆🍾🥂🏆
I dunno how to feel about this one because on the one hand... Yeah, Philly got screwed. But on the other hand, what are we supposed to do? Wait ten days to play this game?
The game winner the defender either lost site of the attacker on the pass. The defender should of gotten that ball without any trouble. I am still not a MLS fan, to me it is second rate.
You know the media will be biased towards Portland in MLS Cup since they didn't get their beloved Seattle Sounders, so I'm hoping NYCFC will disappoint both the play-by-play commentators and Timbers fans and hoist the MLS Cup trophy. And I'm not even a New York or Philly fan, I'm just sick and tired of Cascadia teams making the Final.
They can’t reschedule. The finals can’t be postponed since the offseason is a thing, and they can’t go to a weekday because they wouldn’t have enough time to recover, and would give Portland an unfair advantage.
@@attktitan6057 yes they could man. They can reshuffle/reschedule anything. Playing the game later in the week and pushing the final back a week would have been fine.
@@DaEagles71024 would have it have been fine for Portland? Phyllis game would have been had to be pushed back 2 weeks(cuz covid stuff) and tell me what happened with the revs? They waited 23 days and lost due to game fitness loss. Either way, it was too late to reschedule.
@@ThisGuyPacks The own goal tapped your guy, who was right on top of our own, even if the defender didn't even touch the ball it still would have been a goal.
Can someone plz frickin explain why the union, brought out a "backup" or B team to play in a conference final ?! How many suspensions were there? Or is the manager missing a frontal cortex ? Or both
What is MLS gonna do about it? Nothing can be postponed because the finals is in a week, which can’t be postponed because of the offseason. They also can’t put it on a weekday because COVID doesn’t go away in a few days.
@@neetrab there’s already nothing to do. They didn’t postpone because the games were set and could give an unfair advantage to the next team that plays them. So if they had no players or not enough, they would forfeit. There’s borderline NOTHING the league can do.
MLS had such a good opportunity to prove that they are a legitimate league by postponing this game and they just confirmed that they are the laughing stock of the sports world… no way this game should have been played
@@cx34 Oh, boo hoo, I'm an Islanders fan and most of our players are out because of Covid, do you hear me complaining? Get over it, we didn't even have Taty Castellanos and we still won. I have a recommendation for you, stop going through the comments and replying to every single one, I saw your original comment and I couldn't help but laugh, you're that salty over a loss that could've been easily avoided, with or without "11 Players out with Covid".
@@TheDevilHydraProds2002 Are you seriously trying to compare the Islanders having a Covid outbreak early in the NHL season to the Union having a Covid outbreak right before the ECF final? Besides, the Islanders’ games got postponed, while this one still happened despite Philly basically having to play their B side. You NYCFC fans really are delusional.
@@cx34 I don't know if you're a Union fan or not, but you can't use covid as an excuse for losing in one of the best atmospheres by some of the best fans in the east coast. I just praised Philly because the game was entertaining (and they're my #2), I'll give them that, but they can't use lost players as an excuse, our best player was out today, and I honestly had my worries Philly was gonna win because they're a consistently good franchise.
