A young girl dies and is reincarnated into a video game. But when she finds out that her role is the villainess destined for doom, she takes measures to change the game and avoid that fate. Anime Name: My Next Life as a Villainess
"But Katerina is a smart girl" I would like to point to the scene where everyone is defending her by basically going "Our Katerina is literally too much of a dumbass to pull of the most basic of planning required to pull this off."
Personally, what i find so appealing about this take on isekai is that Katarina is both smart yet dumb about her situation. She's genre-savy and understands how to act in a world that runs on otome game logic to avoid a bad outcome. At the same time, her greatest strenght is also her greatest weakness, as she is stuck in that way of thinking when it doesn't serve her. The reason she's not aware of everyones feelings for her is not just pure thick-headed obliviousness as is custom for isekai protagonists with harems. Rather, she knows that she's the villainess of the game and has categorized herself as such. And the villainess doesn't get a happily ever after. She picks up on her friends feelings but then rationalizes them away, thinking that it is impossible for them to feel any romance towards her. That is also the reason she never makes a move herself and interprets Marias confession as a friendship ending. She's convinced herself that romance just isn't in the cards for her.
It’s as if she forgets her own autonomy. That she isn’t the villainess whose forced to take a path of no romance, or happiness and meet a bad fate. But that she is a young girl in the body of the villainess that has the choice as “an experienced player” to choose a different path. It’s as if she’s become conditioned herself, to believing what her own character believes: there is no better choice for her. When there very will is as someone who has the knowledge of omnipotence of the world she finds herself in, like a puppet who sees they’re strings, but chooses not to cut them loose, perhaps for fear of rejection or a horrible fate.
@@garrettviewegh677 I mean staying off the main course of a story typically has a lot of adverse effects, See: Literally any time travel movie The fears are founded.
@@thomasjetzer2823 being aromatic doesn’t always mean not being interested in reading or playing romance stuff For the matter of the fact you can be aromantic and still date people
Why did you insert the completely unnecessary "lowkey" in that sentence? Because your brain is controlled by what you see on social media instead of having a thought process? And of course "a flex". But you forgot to start the first sentence with "So" to sound as if you''re having an ongoing conversation with the readers, and add "literally," and of course "can we talk about" and "is no one gonna talk about".
Wait, so basically she broke the forth wall after falling. And found out she was supposed to die, so she did everything in her power to change it? That’s actually quite a good plot
No it is not, when all of that basically gets resolved in the first episode. After that it is just nothing. A good plot have tension, tension that builds up gradually, and it is driven by the antagonist, (if it have a happy ending) or the protagonist (if it is a tragedy) but it always have TENSION
Now THIS is an Isekai done right. "A bump in the head gave me the memories of my past life, where I played this NOT-online MMORPG or whaver achrnonim, but a story-based game in which it doesn't end well for me" This is a plot in which the reincarnation and past-life memories parts feel NECESSARY for the storyline. It's not just a "We need to explain why this guy is so powerful" "Can't he just be a normal chosen one? Or just being born like this?" "No no, it's important that the protagonists knows he's this strong because he was an otaku loser in the real world and still remembers about this, so that we can milk for silly reactions." TELL ME IT'S NOT LIKE THAT! I dare you! (admitedly, Slime Diaries does its Isekai work as good as this one, but still... the needles in the haystack)
Katarina is a black hole character, with infinite denseness and pull, once caught nobody escapes her. I especially love when a villain actually attempts to harm a black hole character, because that creates a big bang of forces that rip the offender apart, from princ to commoner from knight to mage, dragon, demon, or whatever was pulled in surges out to annihilate the disturbance.
The video game character was the villainess. And things dont end well so of course when she woke up as the villainess character she’s gonna try to change things
I love *My Next Life as a Villainess!* It's not one of the first Villainess series, but it did bring this amazing sub genre to the mainstream. Later this year we are getting adaptations of *Why Raeliana Ended Up at the Duke's Mansion, The Most Heretical Last Boss Queen, Tearmoon Empire Story* and eventually *Doctor Elise;* If you liked the premise of this series, then you will love these titles even more!
I wouldn't call this an "amazing" sub genre. I love this series and I enjoyed Tearmoon Empire and Doctor Elise. I never heard of The Most Heretical Last Boss Queen. I can say I've seen lots of manga from this genre and I'm not impressed, most of it is chaff with little wheat. I can say there are some good stories in there, but most of them are not good.
I was introduced to this sub genre from I'm the Villainess, So I'm Taming the Final Boss. Great anime that I wish was talked about more. That led me to this anime and makes me want to watch more of this genre.
@@LivingGuy484 I’m the Villainess so I’m taming the final boss. Mainly because I liked the main character better. The other one was clueless at everyone who was in love with her. Made it hard to finish the show.
There's also a donghua with a similar premise, The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System. The protagonist of that series has to be more clever than Bakarina as the video game he gets transported into blocks him from breaking character in an inorganic manner, so he must bend the story to not make enemies out of people he encounters and not end up in a pickling jar for eternity
@@Alakaizer no she plans her way through... she's supposed to be a villainess remember? But she changes her plot by playing it with her plan... no matter how dumb that may look that actually works so she does have IQ I would say.
French Philosopher: “we exist because of our memories. Without them, we are not us.” Me, watching episode 1: “THAT FIVE YEAR OLD JUST DIED AND WAS REPLACED BY A SKINWALKER WHO HAS TO GO THROUGH PUBERTY _AGAIN!”_
Even though I've already watched this anime, it's always fun to listen to someone else's opinion and perspective. This is the only recap channel I will listen to because your personality is just that golden.
Wish they hurry up with S3; if you haven't yet -- please recap "I’m the Villainess, So I’m Taming the Final Boss", "After Being Rejected, I Shaved and Took in a High School Runaway" and "Trapped in a Dating Sim"
i really dont get people, if the people hurry it up to animate an anime it comes out bad and people hate it but if they take their time to animate it to make it good people hate it with how long its taking
Is it really a reverse harem ending? She has both boys and girls fawning over her. It's clear that those girls love her more then a friendly way, so a Bi harem maybe? Also the part where Geordo kissed Katarina in her sleep wasn't mentioned
One thing to note, if the plot of Fortune lover and the anime was the same bar the changes Katarina herself made the game version of her is mostly innocent. If the events coincide then game Katarina while still a bit of a bully yes, is the one manipulated by the dark magic meaning that her being killed or exiled wasn’t her fault. Like imagine being a noble one day and exiled the next without knowing or remembering why, or even worse being killed.
This is the second anime I've learned of that is "Otome-ISEKAI" with both protagonists using their knowledge from previous lives to get a leg up on things. The other one I'm talking about is that dating game one. Truly, fate works in mysterious ways in these types of anime.
This is my favorite anime, it's not the best anime, but the positivity is infectious and I strive to bring just a little bit of joy to others life like Katarina does. ❤
When this anime 1st came out, I didn't even wait for dub because it was a new concept to me and immediately caught my attention. It then became my FAVORITE of the year, and I binged it in both sub and dub😍
This is my favorite recap channel on RU-vid. I literally blocked all of the other channels because I want to hear it from a real person with character instead of these lazy AI generated bots. Thank you for this recap , though. I really love the show and these characters.
I think this is one of those few animes that have a harem and I have no issue with any of the potential suitors. Like - female, male, freakin' concept brought to life, it doesn't matter. Have a giant open relationship with each other, it's just DANDY! If only the protagonist central to the whole thing WOULD STOP FRIENDZONING EVERYONE!!!!! GAH!!!
I absolutely love this show. I grew up on Ouran Highschool Host Club and this reignited all those old neural pathways. Let the bisexual harem trend continue!
AH HA! So this is the setting of that one interactive CYOA. Now that I know it a more chill setting I can actually finalize a build when it gets finished
Are you gonna recap love flops? What a huge twist. Imagine a harem anime that turns out to be scifi. Lol. I saw a 40min recap of it. Hoping for 15-20min recap.
@@Whytho__ yeah I mean like the spoiler / twist is like the genre itself right? Like Post title: Being told the Genre of a movie may be a Spoiler. Post ID: jxp6en Quote: > movie might start out during the World War II era, but then gets some sudden time travel thrown in there to be placed in the future. The genre of the movie would be Sci-Fi, but if you know the genre, it would already give hints and suspicions of what is to come. Or something like that. Sometimes you have to say the genre. Sometimes you can hide the genre. In love flops you can hide it but it's more fun to spoil it so people we watch it. Like school days or doki doki literature club. Lol.
I loved watching this anime😊 and I think I believe there is a season two 🤔 but I watched season one 😊 thank you for making this video. This anime will always be my all time favorite ❤
The funny thing is that the title refers to both My Next Life as a Villainess All Routes Lead to Doom (or Destruction Flag Otome if you like machine translations) which is the series the video is about... but is also refers to a bunch of other series that are... not nearly as good.
