www.AdamTheWoo.com - PLEASE SUBSCRIBE- Over the last two decades one of the major roads leading to Walt Disney World has become a desolate breeding ground of abandoned and failed hotels, shops, gas stations and attractions. I call it .....The Curse of Highway 192.

Hello, everyone! I lived down in Kissimmee for a long time so I can comment on a lot of this material. 2:18 - That was a former sports bar called Gator's Dockside. 3:00 - The Castle was a horror attraction that closed after those four hurricanes came through Florida. I think it was called Skull Kingdom. It was a country western bar at one time. 3:18 - Fawlty towers Pub was what you think it is. Inside, you could see still photos from the BBC series and a printouts of scenes on the walls in framed photographs. There was a plush Basil the Rat on the floor near the entrance. 3;24 - This was a Friendly's Restaurant. Only one I know of that is left is on International Drive 4:06 - Looks like the Osceola Square Mall. I lived up the street from it. Not a lot of stores were ever in there, maybe seven at the most. 6:28 - Believe or not, this was a Polish Deli at one time, then became a bar. What killed a lot of that area was the four hurricanes that came through in 2004. funny oar is, if you go three miles west there is growth from the tourist industry, in the other direction is closer to downtown Kissimmee.

The love of money....the bank cant sell the property cause it know costs less than what they invested in the loan thanks to the economy, the house falls in disrepair so the bank cant sell it without losing money..... Would it not be better if the bank reached an agreement with the occupants instead of letting the property go into disrepair?

I live in this exact area! I'm less than 5 minutes from 192. Back in the early 90's when I first moved down here 192 had a booming business along headed to the theme parks. But slowly businesses began to dry up, and by early 2000/2001 most of 192 was already pretty much abandoned, and now it's even more so. Although a few places have been taken up now, the old target has a new business, the old Mexican restaurant within the target plaza was torn down. And a few old businesses were torn down too with just empty lots, so there at least removed a few eye sores. However plenty of places still sit completely abandoned today, there's also hotels and many more defunct tourist traps and old businesses. 192 was the definition of boom and bust, and it's never rebounded, and I doubt it ever will again. Pretty much any new business is completely on the other side of Osceola county, leaving 192 to rot, and yes the markers are still around.

I live in Liverpool UK and have been coming to Florida since 1995 and have been 13 times. I have always stayed on International Drive but a few times every holiday or vacation we come down to 192 to Oldtown and the 192 Flea market for the day. We last came to Florida in Sept 2014 and 192 has changed so much for the worst. When i 1st came there was a Buzz when driving down the 192. I remember in the late 90s they started on work to rejuvenate the place and all they seem to do was put up Them Mile markers. I always use to say I hated that Flea Market halfway down the 192 as my then Girlfriend now my Wife Liked it, Across the road was Airboat rides that i liked but that closed in the early 2000s. When we came in 2014 we went the Flea Market and the Wife said Never again, She said all the years we have been it was the first time she felt unsafe and when we went the Car show at Oldtown she said the same.

Almost everything he showed has since been built up, renovated and fully operational businesses are in those buildings now.. except Friendly's...it's still closed.. but still there are not many abandoned businesses along 192 anymore... so I think this video is a FAIL! what a waste of time... there are so many other effed up things in Kissimmee and Osceola county alone you could have filmed about... how about filming the homeless families living in those hotels on 192 they are filled with them!! why don't you help them somehow.... now if there is a curse on 192 it would be that....

@ 6:40 onward - "What the heck are those" - "There are more of them" To answer your question, those are pieces from a beaded Seat Cover. They were very popular many years ago. I personally felt they were incredibly uncomfortable. @ 7:10 - I fondly remember Shell World as a kid. Pains me to see it abandoned and disheveled. So sad to see this route in shambles as well... After Disney Died, and Eisner took over control, no more fondness to local business... So sad.

Friendly's was closed due to different reasons. Old Town(Which is on 192) and Fun Spot(which is by it) Are STILL open. Not to mention the tons and tons and tons of pawn shops. I live in Florida, in this actual part. Disney owns Kissimmee, Florida(Well not like they own the city Celebration.. which is AN ACTUAL CITY YOU CAN LIVE IN THAT'S 100% OWNED BY DISNEY) Like since Kissimmee is on the way to Disney, they have their people go and pain the lamp posts, and the garbage cans, and the bus stops purple. Even go so far as to change street names. But the real ma and pa stores are in Downtown Kissimmee, whish is IRONICALLY where you can also get the Best ice cream lol Also that Mall didn't die because of Disney. The Loop(Which if you go up Hogland(or is it down??) You'll get to it. It's on S John Young.) closed that down. But now that mall is open again exclusively to the hispanic/latino/latina patrons.

Stayed here in 88.............. Hotel was right off of a big junction on 192, opposite was a KFC, and in the front of the hotel was a restaurant called the Black Angus............... had a great time. There was a place up the road that did shells, maybe the same place (the big place)........... Only Disney and Epcot were open back then, Universal Studios was only about half way built. So sad to see the area run down............. but you hit the nail on the head.................. stick everything in one place, and you lose all the through traffic passing along 192................ hotels, eateries and shops lose out big time, great if your rich like the Disney Corp........... but their success comes at the expense of the rest of the area.............

Disney has gotten so big that it's impossible to do everything there let alone visit attractions off property. In our case, we buy packages so going somewhere else ends up costing us both in extra money and losing time at Disney we've already paid for. We went to WDW last summer, but the last time I was on 192 was in 2010 when we stopped overnight on our way down and on our way back from Key West.

There are two things that killed 192: Bigger, faster roads into Disney/Universal and GPS. Sure, the economy has had some impact, but Orlando tourism hasn't taken nearly as big a hit as other areas of the state and certainly not enough to be the sole explanation of this. Orlando has been building bigger and better roads for two decades and a lot of those projects completed in the last five to eight years. That, along with widespread GPS navigation use has steered traffic away from 192. Tourists coming from the south are now directed to get off either at Osceola Parkway or I4 when heading to Disney/Universal. Even from I95, they either use I4 or SR 528, not 192 as they used to. So, that's what killed 192.

Sad really,I can recall all of these places being open and flourishing at one time,as prices rose and the Parks went to on site hotels etc.,it became less realistic for these places time stay open with high overhead costs, and sadly yes there are so many places in Florida where this is happening.I live in Boston now,but most of my family is still in Fla.,at one time that econolodge was supposed to be turned into a homeless shelter, best laid plans of mice and men,it never happened.

Even go over towards old town the area is dying. Old town is mostly seedy bars, and tourist shops now. Yes part of it was the recession but Disneys strategy the last decade has been making sure people don't leave the property, and it is working which means less tourist staying off site which means less dollars to go around.

We had a 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 and with 4 persons on board, took our children to the airport in Orlando. We traveled highway 192. The differential failed on the way home. I can think of any reason why the drive train failed and after that experience lost faith in my Dodge. Even though the Dodge was satisfactorily replaced under warranty, I then bought a Chevy truck to take it's place.

It's called economic collapse. Between three wars, devaluing of the American currency, the downgrading of the US's credit, a massive influx of refugees from war torn Mexico, and subsequent job loss it was just a matter of time before you would see a lot business going belly up.

This was unethical editing on your part, you took small partial segments of 192 and made them represent the majority. I know exactly where those are and even back in 2013, they were only small segments, or particular shops that were closed, however immediately to it's right or left, stores were still busy. 192 is so crowded now that traffic shames NYC rush hours. Kissimme has changed alot. In 6 years, the population and quadrupled. Every single spot yo showed has been reopened with a new store. That spot where you showed the fountain is now a shoe store and the entire shopping plaza has turned into Nike and other large name brand malls. Sever others opened as well as a Guccia, and other Name brand designers.

I haven't been able to watch your videos for a while due to life issues. But I come back to this video after about 5 months, and wow, have you lost weight? Are you working out?

The Econo Lodge you showed first was built in the 70s as a Howard Johnson's, complete with HoJo restaurant. The restaurant was later a Country Kitchen before going independent.

I think those bead-things were pieces of one of those wood-bead car seat covers that were all the rage in the 80s/90s or whenever. I remember seeing them a lot when I was young.

I remember this interstate very lit up and interesting when i was young during 2006. Now its a shame to see it abandoned and dieing like you have shown. I think that thing in the gas station were beads used on car chairs to help lean on for peoples backs.

I used to drive down 192 all the time to get to i4. I think it contributed to my clinical depression...

I found two abandoned places once. They are both in Pafos in Cyprus. One was a deserted complete building the other was a half of a house that was being built

I lived in south Florida in the 70's and 80's. I remember the Turnpike exit, and 192 well.

That's hard to believe what's been happening to Hwy East 192. The last time I was on that road, I had a difficult time getting through the heavy traffic due to the tourism in that area. Thank You Adam for taking the time sharing what it looks like today. By chance didjya go back & check out that old creepy looking castle that was supposed to be turned into a night club or something? The last time ya were there it was being renovated...

Just subscribed to you Adam ! First let me say ,your ink is kick ass .. Second , I absolutely love ... "I'll swallow your soul " .... The best !!!!! Third , what you are doing is something I would jump up to do any hour!! You are doing something I crave in life, the excitement of exploring these places is beyond strange & I love feeding my passion by doing this. It's a need , not a want for me. No one seems to fully get my uniqueness of this drive. You had me at Abandoned !!

I remember 192 when it was booming back in the 70's as Disney had just cranked up in 71 and Universal had not even put a stake in the ground as yet. We alsmost had Disney World right here in Palm Beach County but the land deal supposedly fell through between McArthur and Disney. Sort of glad it did not go through for here. The further you get away from Disney, the more derelict the properties become if you are heading east towards the Turnpike or I-95. Not every building had that Disney touch.

That's sad - I bet those rents are affordable now though. Maybe if they were affordable then everyone wouldn't have left and the old miser who owned them wouldn't have died pennyless and you wouldn't have a place to explore and show us videos and you would have to get a boring job as a Walmart greeter saying hi to people you despise because you have nothing better to do until people get tired of going to Walmart and they find your bones in the entrance and put them in a museum & I ran outa space

Sad to see Sunshine Go-Karts closed. I knew everyone there pretty well back in 2010 when I was trying all up and down that highway to add to the meager hours I was getting at Universal at the time. Wound up working for Medieval Times and eventually Old Town for a while. I wonder if the curse will catch up to them too?

Hello: SAD Mr. Woooooooooooooooo I wonder if you could buy one of those places cheap and make a home out of it. You dog you finally found water after all this time. I can't believe you got inside that mall. That crazy laugh at the end was far out. WATER it last. I just though of Wolf Man Jack a cool dude he's been gone for years.

Hwy 192 from Historic downtown Kissimmee all the way to where it dead-ends at hwy 27...8 miles north of I-4 just past the entrance to Disney World is still a thriving hwy with a few thousand stores, shopping centers, outlet malls ( Aripostle, American Eagle, Nike...etc.), several tourist attractions...Every chain restaurant imaginable and several Mom & Pop restaurants...4 Flea Markets, Capone's Dinner Theatre, Medieval Times Dinner Theatre, Old Town Shoppes with Carnival rides, Classic Car Cruise In every Fri-Sat night with between 100-300 Classic Cars each week. Adrenaline rides such as The Human Swing, Rikki's Rocket, Mechanical Bull...there are still 3-4 miniature (putt-putt) golf courses, 2 Go-Cart tracks, Helicopter Rides and Historic Gatorland Zoo...All within a 12 mile stretch. It's NOT a cursed forgotten Hwy.
