The " Come Taste the Band" album with 🎸 Guitarist Tommy Bolin replaced Blackmore for their last of the 70's ? If not check " Dealer" . Let me know you're thoughts ! I love Bolin and that album is way too overlooked. For me 🔥 start to finish. Not comparing with MKII Purple which I also love. It's just different.

The video is from a different show in Copenhagen also from 1972. It was released on DVD. Also, regarding the "I'm a highway star" vocal part, the higher part IS the harmony while the lower part is the main melody. That's why Ian stayed with the lower part.

I wonder if you're familiar w DP's '60s work? Specifically, 'THE BOOK OF TALIESYN'... similar sound sonically, but completely different vibe. It was, loosely, a concept album, based on the legend of King Arthur- according to some legends, Taliesyn was a Welsh wizard/mystic & advisor to the king. Most of the songs contain references to the kingdom, & there's an overlay of mysticism! I recommend 'Listen, Learn, Read On' to start! (BTW, the album is very 'weed-friendly'- LOL!)

Side note: Did you know Ian, who never smoked, has lung cancer & his doctor says it's from performing surrounded by smoke machines onstage for all those years. This album was recorded over 3 nights in Japan - no overdubs - the album is reckoned to be one of the best live albums of all time. This was the show opener- as a singer myself you try not to overstrain at the start of a concert - you need to warm up the vocal cords - later in the show Gillan hits the highs. If you really want the high notes from Ian Gillan , then you need to check out , Strange Kind Of Woman , live from 1972 . Ian and Ritchie go back and forth with high notes . You will like !

Audio is from the live album Made In Japan. The video is from an earlier concert in Copenhagen. Absolutely crushing.

For any Hard Rock aficionado, Made In Japan is must own vinyl. Forget videos, drop needle, it’s all in the grooves.

The footage from this show is from Copenhagen with the audio from Made In Japan. The Copenhagen show has versions of The Mule and Space Truckin that are unbelievable.

This album has a reputation as being one of, if not the, greatest live album of all time for a reason.....it's f**king awesome! Recording wise, performance wise, atmosphere wise.....just brilliant. I have a Japanese pressing of this LP but it is titled "Live In Japan" for obvious reasons.....as the LP is literally made in Japan.😄 Stunning sound quality! Andy's right about the footage....there's too many Westerners (Americans or English?) in the audience for a concert in Japan!😉

I have always said that Roger Glover was so good, that he played Lead Guitar riffs on his bass.

I remember back in the day this was considered to be "heavy metal", now it's just thought of as rock n roll. Good to see you guys doing reactions to live performances again. 😁🤘✌️

The keyboard is so prominent in Deep Purple because he's playing a Hammond Organ through a Marshall amp.
