@@thekillerxgamer4674 that's true, I guess. Hikaru obviously wants the gambit accepted, so they play declined. But its kinda futile since Hikaru is just as strong with either line.

@@BeforeThisNovember at high levels, gambits arent played as often, so the players are more familiar with main lines and more usual openings, so they try to go with that as to increase their chances of drawing or even winning Gambits create imbalance, and out of imbalance comes tactics and there is just no way they compete with hikaru in a sharp postion

wait so i thought in higher level play most gambits just dont work(with obvious exceptions where you can win back the material very quickly) so why dont they accept his gambit? or am i just misinformed?

Maybe they don't wanna risk anything, just get developed and get safe maybe? For all they know, superGM hikaru has developed some crazy new Gambit theory

By don't work they mean they don't give you an advantage. Some gambits are terrible and will give you a losing position, most gambits just result in equality if black knows what to play. Considering it's blitz and gambits are not played at higher levels in classical time controls it makes sense they don't want to play into something they don't know the theory of and by design gives white a good attack.

If a player is known to gambit then super GMs will study the line and get a good position before playing against that person in torunaments, that's why it doesn't work. But they aren't necessarily able to refute all strange stuff on the fly with no prep. Especially in Blitz.
