Hiking Estelle Mountain: The Inland Empire (Temescal Range), Lake Mathews, CA
Estelle Mountain is usually on my mind, since I pass by it many times when going up and down Interstate 15. With Winter temperatures being pleasant, I made a point to do more than just pass it by, but to actually climb it. It appears to be off limits from the more populated side to the west. However, there is access from the east. A semi-challenging dirt road leads to a point where the road becomes 4WD. This is where Google Maps calls it "Estelle Mountain Trailhead". There are no signs on site indicating that, but you sort of know it when you see it, especially if you don't have a 4WD vehicle. A nice outing to be sure, and I was able to see my first poppies of the year!
