Have you ever had such a sweet interaction with a wild animal? 🐾
@michellesgarden5695
@michellesgarden5695 2 года назад
I dont know if I'd call 'my' birds wild anymore..although the species I'm referring to dont tend to physically interact with humans. We have 2 famies of blue fairy wrens where I am...one of the females has a liking for me as she understands I fill those fresh cool bowls of water in summer for them..I make it never gets hot where they cant drink it on those 36 to 43C days etc. Sometimes I can be sitting having a coffee and she lands on my knee for a chat...I never touch her..we just have a chat and I always check whats going on with the water when she goes again.... We've got local magpies who love us as well..I made a lot of suitable bowls that sit on the ground..from concrete ..sealed properly and the birds that wont drink from higher containers dont have to go out in the heat to access water.

What a sweet interaction. Yes, the marmot was enjoying the salt, but since the man had stroked her (grooming) she was grooming back. Mutual grooming is a friendly gesture between mammals. My cats will do this too, licking me after I pet them. My horses will groom me back too, although horses groom by nibbling, and once the teeth come into play I have to call a halt.

Not a wild animal, but an outdoor presumably family cat. I was 12 and having a really hard time with bullying in school. I had found a quiet hiding spot in a forest park in the area. I sat down for a cathartic cry. A huge red tabby walked out of the brush and just in my lap and purred loudly, nuzzled my hand for pets, I eventually calmed down. Pet the cat for a little while. It made a vocalization, ‘Gleckt’ and stood up and walked away without looking back.

Their lowland cousins are more skittish in my experience. Maybe its because groundhogs are a little smaller. Smaller means easier food for hawks or foxes. Marmots are often friendly for whatever reason. They like to grind their teeth on rocks. I have had them come lick my leg.

Having stopped to take a break at a high point on the Continental Divide Trail, a marmot approached and visited me for a while. No doubt this particular individual was used to people stopping at that spot to take a rest. I heard the screech of an eagle at a distance and so did the marmot, who took off to it's burrow, knowing a predator was near by.

What an honour and privilege to have a wild animal interact with you like that. I’d prefer to have a good close encounter with a wild animal than meeting a famous person, the animal interaction would by far supersede any human contact (unless it was with David Attenborough - he has the ability to make you feel like you are there with him when he narrates stories and information) I had a wild fox come and climb into my car with me once, that was a thrill!!

But clearly not 1 of them read other comments & saw hiw many people had already said this... 🥱🥱 Nor did they listen to the video, where the man getting licked SAID THIS HIMSELF... I am 67 years old. When i was 17 and my sister was 13, my father took us on a challenging back packing trip. Mount Whitney in southern california 14495 ft altitude. It required 2/3 day to reach 13000 base camp. The second day, my father and sister stayed at base camp. My friend jennifer and i summeted the next day by 1:30. Two things happened. My sister befriended a marmot that day as well! After she shared some cookies with it, it showed its appreciation by rewarding her with a wallet that it had hidden in its den! And, on our way back to base camp we came past a young lady ill equipped. She wore a thin cardigan sweater and oxford shoes. We insisted she join us back down as the waters across the trail were beginning to freeze near sunset. As it turned out, she was glad to have joined us. Her compatriots, who had left her while they summited, never returned for her that night. Also, jennifer contacted the wallet owner and was able to return it to him. He had been there a week before us and was grateful! Thanks for awakening a good memory! Ev
