I began my section hike along the Appalachian Trail from Rockfish Gap at the entrance to Shenandoah National Park to Harpers Ferry WVA, a journey that will cross state lines, cover the entirety of SNP, complete the Virginia Rollercoaster, and end crossing the river into Harpers Ferry. Today I left my campsite along the ridge above Turk Gap and made my way 23.19 miles to a ridge above Simmons Gap. During the hike I climbed 4964 feet of elevation gain and 5272 feet of elevation loss. Today was a net downhill day which are Infinitely harder on the legs in my opinion.
I am carrying a Mystery Ranch Bridger 65 backpack, with a base weight of 28lbs. With food and water my pack was pushing 40lbs each day.
One of the challenges of being my size, 6'9" and 235 all of my stuff is big and with big stuff adds weight regardless of how light you try and make things.
