A little known fact about Rangitoto island is: That backpack your girlfriend is wearing will hold a 6 pack of ice cold beer easily. Cool video again guys! I lived in Vancouver for a year in the late 90s. Born and bred rural Nelson, but moved to Auckland in early teens. 53 now and never been to Rangitoto - looks cool.
Bahahah thanks for the tip, Paul! Definitely thought about bringing a beer for the top and I think I should have. Magnificent views. Glad you enjoyed it, we are really looking forward to spending a couple months in Nelson! Should be there July and August
If you are heading back to Auckland at some stage, two breweries to check out would be Hallertau and The Sawmill Brewery. Sawmill is particularly good when the Markets are on. Enjoy the South Island!
I have lived in Auckland for years and never climbed Rangitoto! You have inspired me to do so. Especially if this weather holds up. Have a great time in the South Island.
I went to Rangitoto when I was 16 and back then the crater was almost barron of trees and the only structure at the top was an old WW2 Gun Emplacement concrete structure. A friend knew ppl that had a Bach on the island.
Oh really, that’s interesting. There is still the WW2 structure is still up there, lots of information to read as well! We saw a couple of baches that looked really cool!
The panoramic view at the top is Amazing! Haven't been up there for almost 20years, used to frequent Rangi and the lighthouse, my kids ran up in less than 30mins because I carried all the backpacks lols😂😂and my 3yr old at that time hes 21 this year. Certainly has better walkways, tracks AND stairs!! Wasn't like that when we went up. Thank you so much for this vid. Enjoy the Sth Island. ❤
Oh that’s so cool to hear! Thank you for sharing 😃 yeah the walkways and stairs were really pretty good for the most part, some areas were a little sketchy but overall pretty great! I can’t imagine running up there haha good for you!
Another easy daytrip from Auckland is visiting Tiritiri Matangi island. It's a conservation island but open to visitors. The journey is about twice the length to Rangitoto, but for nature lovers it's a must.
We highly considered visiting Tiritrir Matangi Island when we were staying in Red Beach but it never happened, good to know you think it’s worth seeing, appreciate it!
What an awesome adventure, Rangitoto has huge kinas(sea urchents) maori fav seafood and the mussels are sweet NZ and Canada are similar in many ways. Our people skills and the beauty of both countries. I like to see yellow stone in Canada. One day i get there
Glad you enjoyed it! Where do you find the kinas? Yeah I’d have to agree! The famous Yellowstone is not too far from the Canadian border but is in the United States 😃 lots of other great places to see in Canada though!
@@donovankelly12 I watch alot of National geographics, and i hope one day or hopefully win lotto on Saturday lol to travel and see other countries past Australia.. Rarotonga and Aussie are the only countries and Islands I visit. You have to dive for kinas. If you see a boat on the water and no one in it, that would be the Maori diving for kina and paua(abalone) delicious when paua is cooked in real butter and onion, add the paua till soft, then add medium size full cream and seafood mix till thickish … yum
Thank you so much! I have to say I subscribed to your channel as you have some amazing drone shots and lovely editing techniques, will have to explore your channel further!! Cheers 🍻
Yeah a couple of people were telling us that they were awesome and that was their favourite part so I definitely didn’t show them off properly or experience them in that way!
@@donovankelly12 it was fun went there on a school trip and it started to rain and we where not able to go into the caves because the teacher forgot to tell us to bring a torch so most of it was just walking
lol. Do you mean Hone Heke or Honky?🤣😂. Maui was the fishing bro and that was the North Island. As for the other two. One had a penchant for flag poles and the other is a white dude. LMAO.
Maaate. ......Honeki was the dude that caught all the small fish / islands bro.Never gets any recognition but pound for pound he put Maui to shame bro!! These days would be arrested by MAF... pretty shit mfmffmf (Billy T smurk)!
