You were lucky to go there on a calm and even sunny day. We were there last August and camped overnight at the state park. It was so extremely windy that we could not even light our stove. Actually our very large cooler was being thrown around by the high winds. We had big plans, but we barely slept and retreated inside our truck cab to pass the night. We beat a path out of a very windy Cape Disappointment in a hurry at the crack of dawn. Wind was forecasted to be 6-10 knotts, and we got 15-20 and park ranger said we had gusts over 30. The waikiki beach (not in Hawaii, LOL) was a sandswept horror where we took a beating by the fine sand particles being shot around by the high winds. Cape Disappointment was sure disappointment for us. Lets see if we're brave enought to give it a go again on a very calm summer day this summer. Nice on your part. Thanks
Hi Sally, thanks for the comment. That sounds like a crazy experience especially for the summer time! I hope you get a chance to come back out and experience Cape Disappointment again and hopefully no wind this time, it sure is a beautiful area to explore.
This looks freaking awesome! I just discovered your alltrails by coincidence browsing some hikes and recognised your page. I was making my own folders for hikes but after looking at your favourites folder I'm not sure I'll need to anymore. You have so many on there that my girlfriend and I just can't wait to check out. We will be visiting from June-August doing an overlanding/hiking trip. We're kinda nervous about the heat though, do you have any recommendations for keeping cool? or any places you like to go to escape the heat? Hot camping is no fun
Hey! Thanks for finding us & watching!! Sounds like a fun trip this summer! A couple places we can think of to escape the heat would be the coast. Tough to find disburse camping but alot of state parks to choose from. Another would be in mountains next to a creek or lake. We have many places we go around Mt St Helen's & Mt. Adam's.
