Climbing the infamous Mt. Wilson Traverse with Chris Gorney was Incredible! We hiked the First Creek trail and turned north to Scramble the White Pinnacle gulley on Wilson proper. We then continued Rock Climbing up and over Dead Horse Point, finally traversing across Wilson's South Ridge and scaling the west facing head wall of the South Summit. The vistas and mountain climbing were second to none. Chris and I really hit it off instantly on our first ever team climb and video shoot! I credit him for his video and climbing expertise, I could not have done near the quality of a shoot without him. Chris is a Red Rock Climbing expert, scrambler and endurance athlete; his passion is ultra running. He has an epic RU-vid channel, / steadymovin and that is how I found him while I was researching Red Rock Canyon Nevada adventures.
Part 2 of the video will include tagging the remaining Wilson summits, including the Main Summit, then across the Nervous traverse and down into the famous Cleaver Crack. We descend deeper into beautiful and steep walled drainage bowls arriving at Oak Creek and ultimately boulder hopping to the Oak Creek Trail Head.

Fantastic video Karl. Some really serious climbing 🧗‍♀️ going on in this one. Pretty windy up there! Looked awesome on our big screen! Great to see your mate Chris commentating as well. Two professionals in every sense of the word!

Thanks Brother, this climb was very special and much easier to achieve such technical climbing knowing I had a local expert with me!

I was cringing in my chair the entire time! I had no idea that someone could make that climb. Those drop offs were frightening. I will never again drive by Mt. Wilson without thinking about you two standing at the top. Great video. Thumbs up!

It is gnarly! Lots of class 5 solos with exposure. I have an older video of this, white point, where I only made it to white point because I did not know the way and I got lost on the way down as well and when I did find the descent it was hearty class 4! Cleave crack with a reliable GPX TRACK could be an option but the nervous traverse is the real deal too! I would recommend Bridge similar to my latest video of it. . . We got “misplaced” ie minorly lost, on that route twice. . . I never did hit the actual bridge either. . .if you guys are interested i could guide you guys on that adventure but as a loop? A loop that I have not done the last leg of. . . Just for perspective. After Chris and I did Wilson, I did Rainbow mountain direct, cranked the summit smoothly with tons of class 5 and a bunch of sketchy hand lines then got lost on the descent and ended up soloing hard core, super scary and literally death defying. I’m embarrassed to have to admit it. Those mountains are man eaters, seriously. More then my giant 14ers IMO. . . Way easier to get trapped. . That’s why I sought out Chris, he is awesome and super knowledgeable about the whole range. Super fun bro to hang with too! I climb 5.12 weekly. . . And was shitting my pants. . . For real. . .whatever you decide, I got your back and want you two to be safe and enjoy. Cheers, Karl

@@KarlDeckerPresents Ya there's no way we're doing something unroped that has you freaked out! But would love to get up into that area because it just looked so exhilarating and the views were nuts. Also an easier place for us to get to for a collab than all the way to CO, which would have to be a major vacation trip with a week or two off work. Let's stay in touch about that -- if not before our Europe trip then after. Would love to put you in a couple of our vids, because I think there's a big subset of our subscribers would really dig what you do.

@@KarlDeckerPresents unfortunately you have videos for pretty much everything I have had the chance to hike and climb. Took a backpacking trip into vestal basin but between the weather, altitude and climbing sneffels first was not able to attempt arrow or the trinity traverse

For me at least, shooting video in above freezing temperatures is so much easier and more fun! I strongly recommend a quick vacation, a short weekend to the swell if you can. The website and app, “Ryan Road trip,” is an incredible resource with GPS guidance for only six bucks per area, i.e. the San Rafael swell. Just be careful, his trips are generally a little harder than the description would have you believe.

Interesting that Chris was wearing what appear to be running shoes rather than approach shoes. Those wide cushy soles are not so great for scrambling. You would have more comfortable feet at the end of a long day in the running shoes if that is all you need.

Oh for sure, great observation! Chris Gorney is so fit, SO strong, so graceful, it was truly an amazing experience for me to be around him in his backyard!! I can't get away with that much cushion and less precision, he obviously can. 💪💪
