Hiking Fimmvorduhals in Iceland during 2022 from Thórsmörk to Skógar.
Itinerary:
We started the hike from the Volcano Huts in Thórsmörk and hiked ~27km to Skógar in 1 day. This video includes a hike-along shot Kraig Adams style as well as route itinerary, guide and review at the end. During this hike we met Kraig Adams on the way to Skógafoss, he is actually hiking within 2 scenes of this video - let me know if you manage to find him :) He has been a great inspiration for these hiking videos and it was both an an honor and a memorable moment to hike alongside him!
Equipment:
This content was shot in 4K with a GH5 camera and DJI Mavic Mini II drone.
Chapters:

What a beautiful and inspiring video. You are using the Mini 2 drone as per your description. I heading to Iceland for an 8th time in July and thinking of upgrating from my Mini 2 to Mini 4 for the follow feature, but watching your video, I will challenge myself to acheive what you did with the Mini 2. 😁

Thank you for a beautiful film! I spotted you earlier tonight in the Kraig Adams film, which contained surprisingly little wilderness. Really nice that someone who was on the trip made a film with the majestic scenery and beautiful trails! As usual impressively filmed, cut and edited. All the best!

@@JonathanLundmark Ohhhh look. Kraig did two films from Iceland…. I must have missed the first one….due to vacation. That explains the missing wilderness in the second one…. ;-) I will have to do some catching up with RU-vid. And I’m looking forward to your next film!

A cruise around Iceland sounds cool! Yes this trek was an awesome day-hike however the bus back to Reijkavijk only goes back once a day in the morning and takes quite a long time. It can also be a bit tedious to go to the trailhead if not hiking the Laugavegur trail, but it’s doable with some proper planning! Good luck!

Hey, thanks! I used DJI Mavic Mini 2 because its so light weight and travel-friendly and brought quite a lot of power banks indeed for the whole trek. @JonathanLundmark 9 месяцев назад
That’s awesome! Hmm you’ll learn as you you but content wise I like to alter the angles to keep things interresting, shoot from back, front and side! As for drone shots keep em slow and steady without any turning, if you are flying in multiple dimensions at once lock all angular speeds otherwise it’ll look jerky. Remember to keep the shutter speed to 180 degrees to ensure you don’t get any jitter! If you are filming 30fps with the drone you should have 1/60 shutter speed and use ND filter on the lens to adjust brightness. Sorry for the late reply, best of luck on your hikes and filmmaking!

Excellent video footage! are there many suitable options (suitable terrain) to stop and wild camp if the conditions change bad on this trail?
@JonathanLundmark
@JonathanLundmark Год назад
Thank you! If you hike during season months of July and August it should be fairly safe. In case of emergency however there are 2 huts in the middle of the trail. The last 8km stretch from Skogar has plenty of good spots to pitch tents as well as get water from the river (although wild camping is not allowed unless emergency). The first 3km from Thorsmork are also suitable for wild camping. On top there are parts that are flat with gravel where I can see tents being pitchable but it can be very windy and cold so probably not the best spot, I would try to hike downwards if conditions turn bad, either turning back or going forward to do so - bring a GPS to be safe!
@ianwoodzy638
@ianwoodzy638 Год назад
@@JonathanLundmark Hi Jonathan, thanks for the reply, I would like to start at Landmannalaugar or even further North, So I would be wild camping from that trail, I noticed the trail is fine between June and mid September, I wonder if it is passible in October! thanks for the information, I will plan this section better, maybe stay by the hut near Torsmark and around 8kms from Skogar as I think that time of season would be ok, I wish I had taken a GPS on my hike in Hardangervidda national park Norway in September-Oct, as it snowed heavy and made parts of the trails impassable, and I had to turn back after a few nights on several attempt's to pass through the national park from different locations, I guess October could be a tricky month in Iceland also! Thanks for the information!
@JonathanLundmark
@JonathanLundmark Год назад
Nice, I started in Landmannalaugar myself (video uploading in a couple of weeks). It was a really good trail! Indeed conditions have a higher risk of becoming poor and dangerous the further away from ”season” you hike. I assume especially on the pass on Fimmvorduhals where winds get stronger on top. Norway sounds like an adventure! Good luck with your hike, will you film it?
@ianwoodzy638
@ianwoodzy638 Год назад
@@JonathanLundmark Hi yes the condition change dramatically in Iceland and Norway between the September months and October, In Iceland I think it becomes wetter, the same as many national parks around 150 kms East/ North East of Bergen, And I noticed the 5 weeks I was there, it was getting dark around 6PM then 5PM, My footage was terrible as I had an old go pro, and I am terrible at editing, however I am slowly improving for an amateur, Same with photography, I really hike for the experiences way more so than video footage, However I hope to improve with the video footage, as I have had some great cold air exposure, and cold water therapy experiences, with long distance hikes, but even though I have uploaded them, the videos were hardly worth uploading, And for someone as experienced as you at video editing, you would be ashamed of ever uploading such videos! When I go back to Norway/Iceland I will try to record better footage and spend more time editing the videos, Looking at your quality of your RU-vid videos, I highly recommend some of the national parks I managed to hike some time in Norway, Hardangervida in latemay to June or end of August or early September is fantastic because there are less people to almost no people on the main trails, Although I am unsure how busy it gets because it is a huge national park to long distance hike, A typical long hike from maybe Finse to Odda, travelling via Trolltunga, (so you don't have to hike that trail separately, is a good itinenery, I would love to hike so much more of Hardangervida, and I would if I lived in Bergen or Oslo, It is easily accessible by train, to get dropped off at Finse, Or Geilo (for an even longer adventure), to hike South West to Odda,) Transport is quite good in these locations, Via local bus or Trains, From Odda you could then take a bus through the long mountain tunnel 8 9 kms I think it takes 15 minutes to drive under the mountains, Then arriving at a small town of Sundial you can stay at camp site or cabins, or just start a few day hikes or overnight hikes in Folgefonna national Park, The scenery is amazing Harlingskarvet is a nice place to hike a few days, I spent 3 days up there, And further North is more remote but a fantastic national park that I want to explore a lot more of is the Utadalen, Jotemheimen, Breheimen, and Jostedalsbreen national park, I would like to curcuit all of those places at once! And take the scenic train from Myrdal to Flam, and bus to Ovra Ardal, where I would start the trail, I would choose these locations, as they are all around the same area of Norway, East of Bergen Lofoten is amazing I am sure, but that's for another time, If you ever consider hiking in Norway, You will never be disappointed, I think you could upload some incredible content /footage of these national parks I mentioned,

@@ianwoodzy638 Thank you for this very informative comment, I will look up all your suggestions. I have hiked in Jotunheimen before (Besseggen & Galdhöpigen) and found the scenery amazing.
