HIKING in the CANADIAN ROCKIES: MOUNT RUNDLE

Mt. Rundle is the very backdrop of Banff, Alberta, Canada and is certainly one of the best views in the area if you only have a short time in town.
Easily accessible from town and no need for a vehicle make it a worthwhile day hike. Views over the Bow Valley are spectacular to say the least.
I've created this video with the intent to aid others with knowledge of the hike from Bow Falls up to the summit.

how hard was the scramble? I've only scrambled on Devil's Thumb... which is supposed to be pretty easy. Alltrails reviews for Rundle say its a challenging scramble ... what do you think?

I wouldn't consider it too challenging as a scramble but it is a full days venture so that could up the difficulty if someone isn't use to longer days on the mountain. You'll definitely come to a nice section that takes you two steps up, one step back. Haha

I'll be soloing too in July :) I plan to go up this mountain on the 18th if it's nice out and my legs still work! (I'm hiking the rockwall before)

So you did notice the higher summit to the south? That's the summit of Mount Rundle.

I was told by 3 separate parties on my way up to the same Rundle 2 summit that you NEED climbing gear to do Rundle 3 (the highest peak). So it’s not a scramble. This video is about the Rundle scramble. I met another dude flying solo who said he did climb Rundle 3 but he 100% had climbing gear.

I scrambled it. It's harder than your peak which has a trail. Foresry Forest has a youtube on it. I think what the other parties were referring to is the traverse between the north peak and the main summit. I never did that but it is at least one guide book

According to the Alpine Club Guide to the Rocky Mountains of Canada South the main peak was ascended in 1888 by the same route that I followed. The guide says that a "rope not required". I didn't use a rope. And the peak you did has a trail all the way up. no need to take your hands out of your pockets. It's a pretty nice hike though

Not strange at all. It's a hard scramble, not a hike. Interesting fact though is that you start at the Spray side above Canmore and bike to the start. That gives you about 300 meters less elevation gain and loss than starting at the golf course

Hey Emily, this hike would have been during the summertime in 2017 when the Verdant Creek wildfire was ablaze. If it was in the month of March, there would have been a nice thick layer of snow. ☺️

nice we actually 4 days away from heading to jasper to hike down towards banff and than to cranbrook over to nanaimo all out back country that's why I asked what time of year u went see what it looks like out there

You didn't climb Mt. Rundle. The summit is still a half kilometer away to the south east from your high point. You can see the summit at 5:41 of the video in the background. BTW tne the dragon's back is not where you said.

Thanks for your feedback Brenda! Yes, you are indeed right that this is not the true summit of Mt. Rundle but rather just one of the seven Mt. Rundle has. You're on a role today by even noticing that I was not yet on what is known as the Dragon's Back quite yet. Thanks for the positive criticism and hope to see you in the mountains one day soon! ☺️
