Gotta admit.... that meal prep and presentation looked better than anything you've got out at the foodie joints!! Secret is the cast iron and bacon start! Steaks looked outstanding!
Make sure you look for yooperlite stones in Lake Superior, you'll need a black light and when you get to the lower peninsula make sure you hunt for Michigan's state stone; the Petoskey stone. Can find just about on any shore. And get the pasties at Roy's Pasties in Houghton. Order the day before, get the turkey and of course the original.
Both the northern part of lower peninsula Michigan, and all upper peninsula are absolutely amazing. It’s crazy that more people aren’t aware of this. Thank god though! I wish I could live there, and I currently live in Hawaii. I would much rather live in these areas of MI. Thanks for your video, I am using it to convince my gf that we should go here for summer vacation!
Oh how beautiful the scenery was…just gorgeous! Those potholes were really cool! Your dinner looked awesome…that potato hash had my mouth watering…I love me some potatoes! Adam, you are quite the chef! I LOVED your dancing Kathryn…had me smiling BIG! Another great vlog! 🤗
Hi, folks. I was born in Michigan. I have hiked much of it. Taquamenon Falls is farther east. It is like a mini Niagara. If the summer is a wet one the falls will be spectacular, from the run-off above the Upper Falls. I live in Fla. now; but plan to move back for good, soon. Dennis Pine.
Every video we watch, we look at each other and say “man, they really have the formula down!” Thanks for always staying true to your format. Love learning about different areas through your lenses and of course your humor and love for each other shines throughout. You guys are THE best!
I just realized why I enjoy your vlogs so much. You basically go to many of the same places I did when I left home many years ago (50) especially out West. It's a great way to relive those memories so thank you.
I’m sorry it took me so long to thank you for this video! My husband and I found you channel earlier this year when we were debating hiking Harper’s Ferry. We still haven’t done that hike but we’re thankful we found your channel!
The upper peninsula is really beautiful. I’d read that it was kind of mountainous and that was definitely reflected in your hikes. So much natural beauty!
I have been enjoying your videos. I live in Michigan's lower peninsula, but have done a lot of hiking in the UP over the years, including the Porkies. I hope that firewood was local. The DNR doesn't want anyone to bring firewood from somewhere else; it puts the trees at risk, because you can bring bugs or tree viruses in with the wood. The Porkies boast one of the largest stands of virgin forest this side of the Mississippi. If you ever get a chance to go back, I highly recommend getting into the park's interior. The trees are absolutely amazing!
The Porkies are awesome! We had a great time in the UP! That firewood was bought at the camp store there in the park. We understand it’s best to use local firewood. Thanks for watching
When you were at Presque Isle and were at that little bridge over the river you needed to cross it and go left to where the river meets the lake. It's a short distance and well wort it.
Wow!! Michigan is so beautiful 🤩👍 If I have chance, I’d like to visit Michigan and this place!! Thank you so much for giving me information!! 👍👍 I’ll wait next video !!
We've been watching you guys for a long time and have enjoyed seeing so many new sights through your videos. So, it's a little bit surreal to see you going to places that we've already been. We're thrilled to have you in Michigan exploring and bringing attention to some of these locations that are near and dear to our hearts. So excited to watch your Keewenaw Peninsula video next. I have a cousin who lives there and it's so beautiful.
We hope you have a great trip! Make sure you check out our guide on the Porcupine Mountains for more things to do! adventuresofaplusk.com/things-to-do-in-porcupine-mountains-wilderness-state-park Thanks for watching!
From your video it looks like you took the West trail on the presque Isle River Walk. The East trail is rougher but the views of the falls are much better. My wife and I were there about a week or two before you and we walked the east side first to the South boundary Road, crossed over the bridge and came back the West side which is a much easier walk. We also did the escarpment trail but only about half of it. Great views! Enjoyed the video.
Hello Adventurers😊😊😊, WOW are you doing Lake of Clouds? Your doing it...We did that too...Ahhh...AWESOME...you guys are doing it YEAH!! Pasties are on way. I can't wait for the next video. AWESOME AWESOME😊😊😊👍👍👍!
This video was a trip through memory lane. The Porcupine Mountains were our honeymoon trip back in 2012 and enjoyed all the trails and the beach as well :)
From the drone shots over the lake you would think you were in the Caribbean! Wow that water was beautiful! Great hike, dinner looked amazing! Love the bloops too! ~Cara 😊
Excellent as always! An area I know in name only. It was awesome to get a glimpse of this park and show me what I have been missing. I have to been to the UP a few times but only as far west as Munising. I am trying to place what this area reminds me of and the best comparison (to me) is a smaller scale version of the Green Mountains in Vermont. Great job and thanks for making this one.
Love the Porkies! And this (Sept) was always a great time to visit - there always seemed to be a surprisingly warm, powerful wind at night that kept the bugs away. Good memories! Looking forward to your next videos. From your spoiler it looks like you picked one of the best hikes in the Pictured Rocks.
My parents took me to the mountains when i was a kid. We never did those hikes hopefully one day i will go back. I remember millions of mosquitoes and hating that part of it. But the air is so clean up there. I look forward to your Keweenaw blog. That was where I used to go every summer when i was young. And as always an amazing video and your food always looks amazing!
I didn't grow up there but my moms parents were there so we would go every year. I would check out the Michigan Tech's rock museum. All the mines my parents would let me visit. I thought the Quincy was so cool because it still had its hoist building overlooking the portage lake. There is a mom and pop bakery/restaurant in Laurium that just makes some great pastries cause growing up in the south we really didn't have those so i would grab a fresh cinnamon roll. I would tramp though the mine tailings of the Cliff Mines with a rock hammer and would get a few pieces of native copper. We would play on the dark Stamp sand at Gay. Go to copper harbor and see Brockway Mt Drive and have a lunch or dinner at the Kewaanaw Mountian Lodge that was build by the CCC back during the depression. They would rent a cabin. Think of Dirty Dancing they had tennis courts and golf and activities for family's back when it was the style. Just the beautify and collecting thimbleberries that was fun. So much history with all the ghost towns that were once busy mines. I could write so much it probably is to much to post here. But if you ever got to the Cliff mines that was the first profitable copper mine there.
I love that this place is nicknamed the porkies 🐖🐷 Awesome shot of the toad/frog, wasn't sure which it was! 🐸 The time zone borders can confuse the heck out of me. Am I right in thinking Page is similar because some businesses are in AZ whilst others are in UT. If I've got that wrong, it's somewhere else I've travelled to. The waterfalls at Presque Isle were lovely, but I have to say all of this is giving me serious Adirondack vibes so I really hope you're not bored of this type of landscape by the time you make it over the NY! Good work with locating that campsite - and scaring off the other 2 parties? 🤔🤣
Isn’t that the cutest and funniest nickname? 😂 and you’re right! Arizona doesn’t do daylight savings, so when you cross into UT from AZ (or vice versa) it changes certain months of the year! And we are SO pumped for the Adirondacks! I think it’ll be a bit more mountainous, which we are so excited for. We cannot wait to be in the mountains again! Although, bad news…I was going to tell you that the ice cream place you recommended closed for the season already and we are so sad because we had planned to go there 😭😫 Unfortunately both parties arrived minutes after I said that lol! It was nice to have it to ourselves for a bit!
Wonderful start to your series on my state! All of your videos come with one of two good feelings: 1) the joy of learning about a new place and taking notes, or 2) that "Oh yeah, I've been there! Yup, I've done that!" feeling. Probably for the first time since your Zion videos, I got to enjoy the second feeling. I went the reverse direction on Escarpment, so I did the Government Peak parking lot turnaround, but there were two cool things from that: having the Lake of the Clouds Overlook to myself at 8:20 AM (breathtaking) and coming back in an eerie late morning fog. There are a lot of rocks on the trail. On the Presque Isle River, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who got confused between Manido and Nawadaha Falls! There isn't an AllTrails option that really nails it in that area. Good job by Adam noting the influence of the eddies! The order of my photos in my backup app got jumbled thanks to crossing the time zones. :) On my way to Bond Falls afterwards, I saw the "Now entering Eastern Time Zone" sign (I was an animal that day - 11 miles wasn't enough!). Once again, awesome start, and I'm really looking forward to the Keweenaw video! One thing I'll say about Keweenaw: it's impossible to go there one time and feel like you've seen everything. Between hiking and history, there's so much there!
It was super confusing at the falls! The boardwalks just end and we were convinced that the rooty way wasn’t right haha. Glad we tried to figure it out because we enjoyed Nawadaha falls! We excited to share the Keweenaw peninsula. It was full of history and we tried to learn as much as we could!
Ah, I should have told you that in the Pleasant Peninsulas, the rooty way is the right way! We apparently like having tree roots in our trails (yes, Tahquamenon and Bare Bluff, I'm looking at you). Glad you went all in on the recreation passport; for us residents that annual pass is only $12 with vehicle registration, which is a total steal. Back in May, we discussed the copper mines of the Keweenaw Peninsula, and I've been looking forward to what you'll do there ever since, especially now that I've had my own adventures there!
I think Michigan is wonderful and I'm from Wisconsin. Do you think a lot of people who have never travelled to the this part of the country realize just how huge Lake Superior is? You can fit Switzerland inside of its surface area and still have room to spare.. The waves you get in the late fall can be quite dramatic.
I definitely recommend going to devils lake in Wisconsin views are kind of similar but with bigger bluffs surrounding the lake. Beautiful clear water and a bunch of hiking trails, its very unique. Love you videos!
My wife and I aren't quite ready to set out on the types of trips that you do, but as soon as the kids are all moved out and retirement or at least semi-retirement is at hand, we're hitting the road in much the same fashion. Thanks for the inspiration.
Great start traveling my home state. Love the wilderness and waterfalls of the UP. Can't wait to see more Michigan vlogs Dinner looked great! Has Adam ever thought about putting together a cook book? Safe travel guys.
Another great one! We literally did this exact thing last August 2020. We stayed the Union River 'Big Bear' Campground just north of the Porcupines (highly recommended for anyone reading this for a great spot...it's across the street from Lake Superior and is in a little bay so it tends to be calm. You can walk out a LONG way on the lake which is so cool.) I LOVED Presque Isle as well...our kids too. So fun playing in the water where you can walk out between the waterfalls there. Also, on your waterfall walk, did you make it to Lake Superior there? After that suspension bridge you can head down to the lake and it's a really cool spot seeing the river dump into the lake.
Good to know about that campground! We booked ours so last minute that options were super limited, but that campground sounds amazing! 😍 And we didn’t end up going to the lake at Presque Isle. We wanted to, but the slanger and hanger was starting to kick in 😂
I moved to Michigan from Oregon several years ago for work, and while places like the Porkies have their own beauty, it just makes me homesick for actual mountains and forests out west
I hiked to lake of the clouds in the sixties it was a relative unknown park at the time and few people were seen in summer i backpacked to the cabin in the winter and I was the only human in the park it was wild and rugged and I got lost and barely survived I am writing a book and it will be in one of my chapters
Your vlogs are such a deep breath of fresh air!🌲 Even though, I’ll probably never visit a lot of the places you’ve hiked just knowing they exist brings me infinite joy!🌈 Thank-you to the 3 of you for that!🥰 Special thanks to Kathryn for showing me how to do the lawnmower, so I can impress my little grandson the next time I see him!😘 Hugs to Kona always!PS-So no porcupine sightings?
I've been enjoying the Wisconsin adventures, but really looking forward to your Michigan vlogs. I have enjoyed my few trips to the UP, and Northern MI. I'm looking to see where you chose to visit and highlight. Loved the Utah travel guide updates on the website:)
@@AdventuresofAplusK I haven't been there, though I did Tahlequemon Falls State Park a few years back. I've done the Whitefish Point Shipwreck Museum, and a very small part of the Pictured Rocks Lakeshore, and that's as far as I got. I'm hoping to head to Sleeping Bear Dunes next month for a weekend trip. I really do enjoy the work you two do.
Loved the river view around the 2:30 mark....so beautiful blue!!! How unusual with the "pot holes" in the waterfalls. Was that a red rose in the water around the 8:37 mark? Your meal looked so yummy!!! Thanks for sharing!
Actually the best waterfalls in this area are on the Black River Scenic Byway between Ironwood and Bessemer. You drive down the road and it's just short hikes to a series of waterfalls that are really gorgeous. By the way this area gets massive amounts of snow in the Winter they average like 300". It's the snowiest area in the United States outside of the high elevations of the West.
I have been going up to the lake of the clouds since 1962 there were no backpacks or south boundary road and few people went into the interior of the park people that did were rugged
We went on a Sunday so it was decently busy with families since summer break was still happening, but not too bad if you go onto trails vs just the easier overlooks!
Very new to watching you, how many years have you been traveling? And is there a first video to see where and when you began. Thank you, such a treat to see areas totally unknown to me. Leslie
Hi Leslie! Thanks for watching! You can sort our uploads by oldest to newest to see more of our story. We also have a website where we share more about us: adventuresofaplusk.com
@@AdventuresofAplusK Quite the track record and experience you are having. You two remind me of my grandson and his fiancé that live in Colorado. They hike and camp a lot with their dog. I wanted this background so I could share with them your beginning. I appreciate your taking the time to answer me. Thank you. P.S. Of course I have a million questions and one at the top is traveling with a dog and vet visits. How do you handle dental care, healthcare needs, etc. Haha, I guess you know you are talking to an older person. xxxx
I would recommend long pants and long sleeve shirts, hat with a brim and mosquito netting. Lots of mosquito spray with high DEET percentages. Hiking boots and heavy socks. Inland away from the Lakes you will be eaten alive by Mosquitoes. In the winter the "no see-ems" will pester you. Just warning you what they don't tell you! My wife and I went hiking in the UP in August went 75ft on wooden trail then escaped back to our truck. Horrible insects
That’s a good tip for folks. We didn’t experience anything like this on our trip, but we have no doubt they’re there at certain times of the year. We didn’t cover it in this video because we didn’t experience it and hadn’t read anything about it beforehand. We share our experience. Thanks for watching!
I am writing a book i am from.wisconsin and years later i built wilderness hiking trails my first job working on the pacific crest trail near Palmsprings
