Every challenge has a beginning…join us as we start our 630 mile hike of the South West Coast Path National Trail in England, completing the first stage from Minehead to Porlock Weir in Somerset!
We plan to complete the entire route over coming months between work and everyday life, plus for logistical reasons, we may complete different stages of the route and fill in the gaps as we go along! We’ll share the entire route, interesting points of interest, plus if we feel it appropriate, we’ll also point out recommended accommodations and places to eat!
We occasionally get asked what equipment and stuff we use on our travels. We have listed below a selection of items we use, including links -
Osmo Pocket 2 - amzn.to/3KmRSa9
GorillaPod Tripod - amzn.to/3nzZEVg
Smatree Selfie Stick for Osmo Pocket - amzn.to/40OS6fz
Sandisk 128GB memory card - amzn.to/3G2QDdR
WB External Harddrive - amzn.to/3nBNYBA
Osprey Talon 26 Daypack Backpack - amzn.to/3GWrEJt

Ah that bought back fond memories. Such an exciting feeling when you start the trail. The trees just short of Porlock Weir died when the pebble bank was breached by the sea. Previously that area was farmed but when the sea breach the bank it created the tidal wetland that you see now. The salt water obviously killed off the trees that once grew there.

Thanks Paul, we did wonder about those trees…we really enjoyed this first walk, much excitement and energy levels were high! Cheers, Elaine and Simon

This is sooo cool! We walked the SW coast paths on the Dorset coast already twice and get strange ideas of walking further, now that we've seen this video and the next one. 😏😍😍 Fantastic!

What an inspiration! Thanks so much for taking us with you on such a beautiful series of walks. We will be over that way in August from Australia and your episodes will challenge our capacity to choose at least one. 😅

Many years ago we used to take the kids to Butlins for short breaks. I would always be afforded some time to get a walk in as the kids would be playing & the wife supervusing/reading her books. I did the walk to Porlock from the monument but my memory was that you started going up through the trees a lot sooner - maybe I missed the real path back then unless its changed. Anyway, great to see you taking on the whole walk - what an achievment this is gonna be - well done and good luck both. Seeing parts of the walk brought back good memories for me, thanks. Oh ye, getting back on a linear - I did it on a Sunday and the buses were not running...I passed someone's house after getting off Hurlestone Point and asked them about the bus - they told me it was not running and then offered to give me a lift back to Minehead - how great was that! regards Al

Having walked the Inca trail and the SWCP I don't think the inca trail is massively better. Obviously an incredible end but the SWCP is just relentless incredible vistas.

@@unowhotravelchannelhow lovely that you enjoyed my videos. I have a lot to learn about filming and editing but I do it mostly for keeping the memories 😊 I Didn't have a video camera the first year, and only a cheap action camera from Padstow to St. Ives but bought a GoPro in 2019. I have watched more of your videos from SWCP now and they are geeat. I will definitely watch more of them 😊

Would those people in front have a RU-vid channel? Would my Bus pass be accepted? LOL one of the places we walk has signs like that. We think it is 1 mile there and 2.5 back. Will we see developing theme of sleeping in pubs? Is this not so much a walk or a pub crawl? LOL

Hi Helen, many thanks for your kind comments. We use the Garmin Oregon 400 and 550, but Garmin don't do them anymore. However, you can get a second hand one off Ebay. Ours are falling apart but overall they do a great job! Good luck in September, its an amazing route, we're slowly getting there, almost half way...life and work gets in the way though! Kind regards, Simon and Elaine
