Thank you for this beautiful lunar-esque hike! Maddie: "I would rather explore and take care of the planet that we have, instead of leave it." 😊 Me too, Ranger! ✌️
Just read your channel description and now I’ll forever say I’m an ourdoorist when people ask what I do. Never heard that term before, but I super love it.
Aw that's awesome! I don't remember where I heard it, but I know it was said that "outdoorist" was a gender-neutral alternative outdoorswoman or outdoorsman. It shows up with the red squiggle of a misspelling for me, but I hope more people start using it!
Hi! I started watching your videos when you were doing the AT and somehow lost touch😢I am so glad to be watching again. I think my favorite thing about you is the pace you use. No hurrying , no rushing, just enjoying life from big to small things.
I love these adventures and I really admire your ability and desire to make and share these videos. I know you put in a lot of effort to make content and the quality is great! Your videos are pretty much the only ones I look forward to each week. :) Keep it up Maddie!
Hi Maddie! So happy to see your beautiful smiling face and hear your voice! I had to post this comment even tho I can’t watch the video till later tonight but I was so thrilled to see a post from you ❤. Will update after I watch ! But honestly it’s YOU I think most of us come for no matter where or what’s up . UPDATE : I got to watch the entire video ❤… I loved hearing your thoughts on it … and loved that old twisted tree… if only it could talk. This hike reminds me of hiking in the old volcanos on the Big Island of Hawaii. I recommend you check that island out ! Lots to do … and I believe a big enough park for camping . I can’t recommend any specifics tho because we were there in 1990 BK That beer made me want one! My dad used to say there’s “nothing quite as refreshing as a cold beer on a hot day “. Enjoy !
Interesting! ❤ I never would have dreamed that area would look like that. That would be a nice educational trip with children. Thanks for sharing! It's good to see you again Maddie. A big hello to Smoke. 😉 And your parent's.
This is one of the most unique places I have ever hiked. I did it on Aug. 1st 1989. I remember the date because a few miles before Arco I ran into a snow storm. Complete with 2" of ground cover and plows working the highway. Back then you were allowed to explore the lava tubes also. I will revisit the area next spring. Heading for the UP via the Ohio valley this fall.
Good to see you getting back out there and thanks for sharing those shots of the volcanic landscape. For those watching from Europe, Mount Tede national park in Tenerife has similar landscapes and unique plants.
A moonscape - been there, done that. An amazing place. Can you imagine being there when that was formed or even witnessing it from a distance? There's a sort of similar place in northern California, called Lava Beds National Monument, replete with lava tubes and the opportunity to go inside some of them. The Modoc War took place there. Be well, stay safe. 🥾
This was a fun place to explore- thank you! I also appreciated the cold beer at the end of the hike. I love a blonde ale (although yours wasn't) and I totally appreciate that you know your brews! Cheers to more fab adventures this summer, Maddie!
But I think there's also so many cool places out west that aren't as well known as Yellowstone, Yosemite, Sedona, and so on! Lots of lesser-known gems to discover!
Wow, incredible terrain! Have to visit there. If you go to Nevada, you might want to check out Red Rock Canyon, if you have never been there. You can actually do a circuit of this National Conservation Area in your vehicle, stopping at various points of interest for short or longer hikes. Stop at the Visitor Center when you enter Red Rock - well worth it. I was there in 2018 and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Great to see your road trip is back on track after your scary incident in Utah! If you are looking for another "short" thru hike, I'd like to put in a plug for the East Coast Trail in Newfoundland. The difficulty is pretty similar to the portions of the Superior Hiking Trail that I've done, and the scenery is out of this world. The trail seems to be growing in popularity but there is a notable lack of youtube content on it. Maybe a good opportunity to be one of the first to vlog it.
@@BeerinBeautifulPlaces Pickles Place in Arco has amazing burgers too. I think the atomic burger is the best cheeseburger in Idaho. Good beers available too. Cheers!
Such a cool and beautiful place! I imagine that terrain made the inclines harder. Good to see you back out on the road. P.s. George (my hubby) says hi!
Hey Ranger! Craters of the Moon is soooo beautiful, I hope you come back some time and explore the Lave tubes at Indian Tunnel. On a really hot sunny day the tunnels are really cool and shady!
Was that the name of the caves at Craters of the Moon or a different place? If it was at Craters, they sounded cool, but it seemed like they were crowded that day. Maybe someday, though!
@@BeerinBeautifulPlaces Yeah, Indian Tunnel is the cave you can hike through and it deffinately gets busy on a friday/weekend but most people just go to look at the tunnel, not actually inside of it. The descent down into the tunnel is kinda like the climb down off Moosilauke going NOBO lol
@@BeerinBeautifulPlaces Well, not too far by western standards. It's near Mountain Home, closer to Boise. Loved seein CoftheM again, and I look forward to your next adventure.
Another place I visited this June, two days, one in roaring wind (ah, Idaho!) BTW I camped at Silver Creek West BLM campsite, free, no shade, but ok in early summer. I hiked out-and-back on the Wilderness Trail plus the shorter park hikes, but skipped the caves because of the crowds. The blue layer on the basalt is part of the Blue Dragon flow, very unique to Craters of the Moon (nanocrystals?) I saw the tree-casts. Looks like you had it pretty hot there. And you’re hitting the 208 a lot! Try the Sweetgrass Pale Ale, it’s a nice one, also on the light side but good body and nice twang.
