I have been debating on doing the South Mountain Ridgeline Trail after I finished hiking the Superstition Ridgeline Trail. I was a little worried about the heat but I have seen an opportunity when the weather on my day off was the lowest temperature of the week before it gets to 90 degrees in the valley.
I woke up at 3:45 am on this day and drove to the west side of the South Mountain. I started hiking the trail at 5:30 am. How I miss the sunrise hikes! Looking at the map, it feels like I don't make any progress but I was actually am. The city views and nature all around me are very pretty although the noise of the plane and some traffic is there. What a beautiful mountain inside the city! I really didn't need the pole unlike when I was doing the Superstition Ridgeline. I was making a good time until at the last two miles when my toes started rubbing at each other. I wanted to check out some more areas that are a little bit out of the trail but I didn't' want to add more mileage and suffer more from hurting toes. I am so lucky to have an awesome friend, Isaiah who picked me up at the east side of the mountain. Right after snacks with my friend, I went to REI to get the toe covered socks so I have it ready with me next time.
