I started my 7 Creeks Trail hike from Pumpkin Hill before sunrise and continued to Cedar Point Preserve. This trail passes 7 creeks as the name suggests and is roughly 7 miles long. I began from the Pumpkin Hill parking lot and hiked through Cedar Point Preserve to the end and back to my car, making it 8 miles in total. Lots of birds and wildlife. A really cool trail, a must-hike, but yellow flies can be a problem in the summer months.

Yes it's a very different kind of state park, remote and wild. I love it.

That sunrise was amazing! I like the idea of parking at Pumpkin Hill and dividing the trail like that. Those bugs were brutal!

I had to park in the middle to get back to my car, unless I would want to do a long day. Those yellow flies needed a physical barrier between me and them they didn't care about the bug spray.

@@FollowThomas yeah I’m not sure if there is any working repellent for them

Nice hiking. Looked like a nice trail. 8 miles is a good day. Nice to see the turkeys and the deer. Not sure what yellow flies are but I'm sure I would not like them. Glad you covered up to avoid the pests! Take care and have a great day.

Yellow flies are evil flies that bite you, you're lucky that they're not on the West Coast. They like Florida's warm and wet climate. I'm pretty tolerant of mosquitoes but totally hate the yellow flies because mosquito spray won't protect you much from them, luckily I had my wind breaker. Other than that it was a great hike, enjoyed the walk and remoteness. Thanks!

Yellow flies are very similar to deer flies.

One of the cool things about taking the road back, I often see way more birds on the edge than in the middle of the "jungle". They do like edges. The fly thing was pretty bad. I bought a v. light camouflage hunting jacket with the face screen for emergencies like that. So far I have forgotten to take it each time. But doing an overnite in close campground on the Tomaka, hoping for a few migrants in the mud flats and beaches, I may need it. I will be happy with Sanderlings, which have quite a few in Alternate Plumage, which is always very cool, but hoping for something like a White-rump. Sandpiper A birder can dream.

Yes edges have usually more birds than deep inside the woods. This windbreaker jacket was handy. The other way yellow flies have eaten me alive. Good luck with your birding. I haven't seen the white-ramp sandpipers for years.

I didn't even see the deer with the naked eye. It's cool to see different wildlife together.

One time I saw a deer and wild boar 🐗 interacting in the same spot. Early mornings are the best to spot the wildlife.

@@FollowThomas that would’ve been the coolest if you would’ve gotten it on film! I’ve seen coyotes on my last 3 weekend rides but it was too dark for them to come out on the GoPro.
