Hiking the Pemi Loop

I took squall for his first Pemi Loop this week. We got an afternoon start which meant we were stuck hiking in the dark and spent a few hours resting on the top of Garfield. It was howling out which made it very hard to sleep and too cold to get up and motivate to relocate. At 2:30 we got up and continued on, making it to Galehead Hut for a 5am breakfast. The rest of the morning was gorgeous and we made it back to Lincoln Woods by noon.

I cannot believe its YOU!!! I am getting ready for this hike and saw this, randomly. I look down at the bottom and it says ski the whites....which is on.........YOUR SKI VIDEOS!!! That i totally used this past winter to train. HA!

Nice video, that area of the whites is just a great place to hike. It never grows old. I did the loop this past fall and it was awesome. Unlike your video the parking lot was packed, and the ridges were loaded with people. Since the pandemic the Whites have gotten a lot more popular. It's still wonderful and my happy place.

Great editing man. Some of those timelapses were spectacular. Did you bring a tripod with you or just a Gorilla Pod? If you really lugged around a tripod for 30+ miles I hope it was made of carbon fiber lol. As of this writing I've completed 38 of the NH 4,000 footers - almost there!

Amazing video, got me to subscribe. Doing some early planning of a Pemi Loop hike this spring. Wish I could bring my dog like you, but after about 8-10 miles her back hip starts hurting and she limps.

the platform walk on the twinway, just the twinway in general between Guyot and South Twin is the best section of trail in NH....

Thinking about doing a run/hike on the Pemi in preparation for an ultra training.any thoughts

Depends on the ultra you're doing. It's incredibly technical except for the rail trail section (4-5mi?). It's great because you'll spend a ton of time on your feet, hopefully get beautiful views, and mentally it's a grind because you can never go full auto-pilot. It will beat you up though which might slow down your training. What ultra are you training for?

Andrew Drummond thanks for the reply, I’m thinking of the Ragged 50 K in August or perhaps the Vermont 50 K

@@adamtyson1257 both of those events lean heavily on running where as a pemi loop is a ton of power hiking. i think it's really good to mix it up though because it's great base work as long as it doesn't beat you up too much and interfere with regular training / workouts.

Most years September is cooler and leans towards temps in the 60s (day) and 30/40s (night). But can swing dramatically one way or the other. You should be fine with summer gear and a few additional pieces of clothing (puffy jacket, base layers, warm gloves). I like using the higher summits forecast for planning my gear 7 days out: tinyurl.com/ycma5znl

Nice hike, Squall's a real trooper. Glad to see you carry him down the drop after Bondcliff :)

down garfield was another challenge! he was stiff that afternoon but made the full recovery the following day. slowly feeling out his limits and trying not to work him too hard.

Oh yes, I remember that descent. I would've liked to have been carried down that. :)

Please stop making these videos. They offend me because I sit in an office all day. Thanks.
