I don't know if you're going to read this but I just wanted to say i been watching all your videos for the past few weeks and lately you're by far my favorite RU-vidr, you make me laugh a lot and your film making is beautiful and I love the music and the vibe. you seem like an amazing person and you're probably an amazing friend. I'm turning 20 in two weeks and I'm going to start trekking this summer as well. can't wait for other videos and I hope you're having a good day and you're happy ❤️❤️❤️❤️😊
You have been busy ! Thank you for the summary, overview of this trail.Sounds like you had a memorial time here. Your favorite spots are breathtaking...
Thanks for the excellent pronunciation. Appreciate that. Also your tips are really good. Was waiting to see you mention midges😅 They dont really bite me but they drive me mad. Smidge and a smidge head net is my go to. As for ticks. I have never been bitten in 50 years goung up the hills but I dont wear shorts, I wear gaiters as well. Clothing stops them. Interestingly, they seem to be getting more prevalent. There seemed to be less 40 years ago.
Floor, checkout the Cuillin and the Ollisdal bothy next time you are on Skye, the views from the Cuillin ridge is amazing and the view from the bothy looking towards the black Cuilin.. never seen something so beautiful!
Did the Skye Trail Last July. No midges, it was all about the rain 😢. Camped 6 nights, 1st & last night in excellent campsite in Broadford where I left my car for a small fee. I walked north to Portree, then bus to Rubha Hunish and walked back to Portree, made bus logistics easier. Great trail, met very few other hikers, maybe max 20 over the 5 days. My biggest mistake was heavy leather boots which got wet first day and tore my feet to shreds. Best wild camp slots for me, Camusunary Bay, where I was the only camper, and it was magical. Also at Loch Hasco below the Quaraing, again I had it to myself. Great trail, get there before it gets too popular 😂
There is also an amazing camping spot in Glen Sligachan, just after Loch an Athain near the foot of Blà Bheinn. If it is fine summiting Blà Bheinn is also really worth it, the climb from Sligachan is pretty easy going. Plus if you are lucky you might even see Golden Eagles here!
Yey finaly another video from you! I live in Edinburgh so greeting from Scotland! Im getting ready for East Highland Way + Speyside Way in May, maybe something else before but Skye is on the list also. Cannot wait for that epic hike! Hope to see you here more. Maybe on Cape Wrath or Scottish National Trail? but its like 30 days to do so kinda long.
It is long but it is so worthwhile.. I had rain on almost every day and even then it was amazing.. best hike so far. This year I will do the Skye Trail and it looks easier especially since you only spent 6 or 7 days.. but if the wind is hard and the rain starts it might be nasty 😅
Use Life Systems EX4 and spray it on your trousers, cuffs, shoe tops and gaitors. Not had a tic in two years. But not your ground sheets as that will.poisen the ground
7:52 In some ways I sort of wish you'd continued to call them 'midgets'. Another massively informative and fun vid, Floor. Will definitely pick up a guide when I can find some time for the Skye Trail :)
😆 I wondered if that little chuckle at the start of the midges section was you remembering 'midgets'. You're gonna have to upload that footage. 'The Midgets of Scotland'
Another thing to avoid midges is going start of april, end of september. Downside is colder and shorter days. I will start in the second week of April 2024.. curious how it will be, I remember waking up with a frozen tent in a previous hike in April 😂.. we'll see.. thx for the videos
Hallo Floor, we hebben met bewondering naar je mooie wandelingen gekeken. We hebben een mooie uitdaging voor je namelijk het Olavspad. Loopt van Zweden naar Noorwegen. Neem je de uitdaging aan ? Gr. Henk en Nella van de travelbeekjes
Have you ever thought of doing a long thru hike like PCT? There's a new on in Canada now like that also. Guides are too heavy gr20 one found a bit confusing, but I liked the book.
Maybe they are talking about the Great Divide Trail? Starts basically where the CDT ends but is much more remote than the US trails from my understanding.
The gdt. Jupiter hikes done it, here is a link to the first video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zsfGIYJWhwg.htmlsi=9JLhN_X11RHTVf5R. It isn't travelled much. You'd be well able for it but it is a long long distance trail it takes like 8 weeks. I'd say the Mo backpack would be fine, if your tent can fit in a pocket that might help. You'd need a bear can and the grizilly bears are scary..
@@floordenilfellow Canadian here, haven’t done any of these long hikes but do know of them. The Canadian trail is called the Trans Canada Trail and it’s about 28,000km!!!
Hey! I hiked this trail in August. Saw many campers on the roads, but almost no people on the Skye Trail. It’s a good way to explore the island in solitude (so far) :).
Hi Floor. For someone first (and perhaps last) time in Scotland, would you recommend Skye trails or West Highland trail, and why? They look quite equal in length.
If you’ve got some experience doing long distance hikes, I’d recommend the Skye Trail. It’s less crowded and the scenery is more beautiful. However, if you’re just starting out, the West Highland Way is a great option, as there are many hikers on the trail and you pass by many towns :).
