The Worst Weather in the WORLD?! Man did we luck out for the most perfect Fall Day hiking to the summit of Mount Washington. A bucket list item for me and an incredible experience getting to climb such an iconic peak of the Presidential Range in New Hampshire.

I've hiked the big rock many times as well as katadin many times. Back in early eighties two friends and i hiked the auto road in february...9 miles or so...base lodge claimed steady sixty mile hour with gusts to near hundred...we were great until rounding the last corners up past treeline...it was like another planet...the winds' created horizontal icicles that ran as much as six feet long...everything was solid ice! We made it to the top and the weather station(at the time) wouldn't let us in... no surprise there...on the way back down we'd run then drop to a crabcrawl and slide 50 yards at a time til we reached treeline...one of my best memories of mt Washington...and yes it deserves much respect...thanks for the share

One of the best videos I've seen about Mt Washington. I did it April 1st of last year... was a beautiful day and did the same trail. It kicked my ass. Had to turn around 200 feet from the summit. Was way to tired and sucked down my pride. Heading up in a few weeks to finish. Well done!

Did this in 2015 I was 59 then and my husband 69. We are still hiking. Good video, it was a beautiful hike.

Having hiked up that trail, you will get no push back from me. If at all possible, I do not hike that trail. From Gem Pool on is pure torture. I attempted Mt. Wash. July 4, 2020, I think it would have been my 6th or 7th time. I chose to go up Crawford Path to the summit. When I got to Lakes of the Clouds hut, I decided not to summit and not go back down Crawford Path and went down Ammonusuc Ravine trail. That will never happen again.

I am glad that I am not the only one that gets winded on the way to the trail head. That is a steep walk from your car. I have lost track of the number of times I have hiked Mt. Washington. You started at 9:30. If I am on the trail after 7 I just about lose my mind. There's no way I would dare start that late.

I walked up with my three kids, then 8, 10, and 12. Left the wife in the car. We could not see the top when we left the bottom. Told the kids we would go as far as the tree line. Told the wife we would go all the way if the weather looked OK. Weather remained good. Strangely, the middle kid complained most about the pace, so I put her in front. Cautioned the kids about ankle-breaker rocks, later leg-breaker rocks. Took the train back down because of time/daylight. Overall, a fantastic, memorable day.

Hopefully doing this hike next weekend, we're anticipating early winter conditions and while I've hiked in the snow/cold before, I'm definitely wary of the wind. Even if we can't summit (like someone else here said, I refuse to be a statistic), I'm still going to enjoy as much of the experience as I can. Awesome vid, you got a sub!

At the top of the summit actually the highest wind speed in the world was recorded at 231 mph

that would only matter if the mountain was a complete flat straight line all the way to top.... it isnt... it goes up, dow, and around thats where the extra steps come in.
