This weekend I lucked out with a free stay at the Carter Notch Hut for 3 from someone who had members of their party back out. Decided to take that opportunity to knock off Carter Dome and The Wildcat Mountains.
We took the 19 Mile Brook Trail up to the hut on Saturday and spent the night. Very chilly temperatures overnight with very high winds. The "Hut" has the one main building but the sleeping quarters are in a different building and has separate rooms with 4 bunks. We had our own little room which was unexpected but awesome!
We hit Carter Dome in the AM a very straight up climb from the Hut which seemed more difficult than it should have been. I believe its because I woke up, didnt eat, got dressed and just immediately started on the trail. Either way reached the summit of Carter Dome quickly. Not much of a view on top but there was a GREAT viewpoint off the Carter Moriah trail heading up to the summit.
We came back to the hut had a little snack and then headed up the Wildcats. A fairly steep but relatively quick hike to the first view point right before the summit of Wildcat A. We passed over A,B, & C and did not even realize it. There are no real markings indicating where they are. You can only really tell be the differences in elevation. Wildcat D has the nice platform on top with a great view of the Presidential Range. There are also great views on the trail on the way down to the Glen Ellis Parking Area. The trail gets pretty tricky near the last mile which slowed our pace a little but nevertheless we did ok.
Hitched a ride back to 19 Mile Brook Parking lot quite easily.
All around a great trip!

As much as I love money, I would highly suggest giving yourself at least 48 hours before any purchase decision and asking yourself “Do I really need this?”. I hope more times than not, you find yourself saying “I Definitely do NOT need this”. If you find yourself still in need, shop around and find the best deal for your money.
Please note that I am not recommending any of the gear seen in any of my videos. The gear I use is what I have found works best for me at the time period I am using it. I have come to these gear choices through vast levels of trial, error, and experimenting with gear out on trail.
Gear, clothing, footwear, etc. are not one style works for all. Do as much research as you can, try out things in person if able, and make the best informed purchase decision for YOU. Do not buy gear just because it worked for, was showcased by, or recommended by someone on RU-vid

Hey Chris, I’m the NOBO AT hiker that chatted with you by the River/water source a few days ago. Really enjoyed the video. I did wildcat yesterday afternoon and camped on top. Epic

Hey was great chatting with you. Enjoy the rest of the journey, and embrace the roughness of the rest of the Whites and southern Maine!

I’ve climbed these and Mt. Moriah numerous times over the years. It does my heart good to visit them again by way of your videos. Thank you Chris!

I just hiked up Wildcat Ridge with a fully loaded bag to camp out at the unofficial campsite at Carter Notch Hut. This trail isn’t for the faint of heart. Very steep ! And some sections very tricky to balance with 25 lbs on your back.

The place where you were standing when you mentioned the ice on your hat is actually Wildcat A! There aren't any signs for it except one marked "view" but if you wander into the woods a few yards behind that sign youll come across a pile of rocks where the true summit is.

I'll have to read into it Erik. I have heard of it but have never really done the research. It sounds like a great time. Thats awesome bout the weight goal man! I plan on starting to record for my weight loss series once it starts snowing and I am more than likely not hiking as much. I got a trip coming up in two weeks down here on the Wapack Trail. Looks like itll be an interesting time!
