I took a bit of a road trip and spent the night at Fontana Village. While there I picked up the Appalachian Trail where I left off at Fontana Dam and hiked up Shuckstack Mountain to the fire tower! From the dam it's about a mile to the trailhead. Then it's about another 3.5mi up to the tower, all uphill! It actually wasn't terribly steep or hard and it was a great way to hike a chilly day!
