May will be a great time to hike the canyon. This time of year it can be a bit too cold.

I lived in sedona. Back in 70s. Big changes since then. In my time only a stop sign at the "Y" in Sedona. Know many of original family's there. We lived in oak creek canyon as a kid. Thank you for showing it.

I wish that was able to experience Sedona in the 70's. So much has changed just with the last 7 years that I've been in the area.

I lived in West Sedona in 1971. I was 9. There was very little there. It was amazing. Not even a school there, we were bussed to cottonwood. I wish it was still like that. Not overgrown. But it’s still beautiful 😊

Hi Valerie !! I'm loving the video. I will check out more. I'm going to Sedona in May and have heard conflicting reports about the roads there. Some imply that I won't really see anything unless I rent a 4wd. Others say I don't need one. What is your advice, since renting a 4wd is pricey because I'm traveling alone. BTW, like someone else said, you do have beautiful eyes. :)
@vvtv4565
@vvtv4565 6 лет назад
There is definitely a lot you can see without 4WD! Every single place that we shot video at was accessible without the use of a 4WD vehicle. I have lived in the area for 8 years, most of which I didn't have access to 4WD vehicles, and I saw many, many beautiful places! :) Many of the places that require 4WD vehicles are miles outside of Sedona anyway. :)

And there is non poisonous sumac. It's that oil from dry poisoning leaves that gets on clothing and is touched long after leaving the adventure, maybe even before it makes it into the wash.

so there is food there. Its not all desert. there are a few apple trees. the canyons would make great homes, if you could live in a cave up in the rocks, but you would have to come down to the valley to get water, I guess. beautiful area. The first Native Americans must have been extremely happy to live there.
@vvtv4565

That is correct! The ecosystem in this video is called Riparian, which is mainly a heavily forested area with rich soil and mixed coniferous and deciduous trees. It is diverse, and much of the plant life there is endemic to that specific area. Very easy to live off of the land in places like that if you know what to look for. :)

What is the name of the plant you ate?!
@vvtv4565
@vvtv4565 6 лет назад
Wild Bee Balm, or the botanical name is Monarda Citriodora OR Monarda Didyma. It could be one or the other, as both grow wild in the area and look nearly identical. :)
