Hiking with Tess. She is an amazing trail dog and has very nice trail manners. She generally hikes next to me even when I release her (unless I start throwing a ball or stick of her). It is extermely important to develop trail obedience and manners. Examples of this is: 1) a good recall that is reliable both with no distractions and with many distractions. 2) A good Heel command (It can be invaluable to have a good heel that allows you to walk confidently with a dog as you pass other humans and dogs) 3) A good sit/down command(s) and a stay command.
