Yordano Ventura was an up and coming ace for the Royals. He and his 100+ mph fastball helped KC win the World Series in 2015. Sadly, during the 2017 offseason he died in a car crash in his home country of Dominican Republic. He was only 25.

As a lifelong royals fan it shook me to my core. I saved every newspaper article for like 3 years when the royals were on top

That Royals pitcher (Ventura) was talented but he had a reputation for pitching hitters inside and hitting them, causing fights and bad blood. He would taunt the hitters as they walked to 1st base, daring them to retaliate. He was killed in the off-season in his early twenties back in his native country.

The Cubs of the 2014-2020 were a very funny club!

Robin Ventura was a 3rd baseman for the Chicago White Sox when he got hit by a Nolan Ryan pitch and charged the mound. Ryan was in his forties and Ventura was in his twenties. The "old man" gave him a headlock and punched his head like a jackhammer.

i remember the newspaper had a picture of the headlock, and said “RYAN THROWS KNUCKLEBALLS”😂😂

Maybe im biased as a Cubs fan, but there was a good 6-8 year stretch where they had a bunch of young guys with amazing personalities, especially during their WS run, they were just enjoying the ride.

The great thing with baseball is because of the more leisurely pace of the game, there’s more time for these kinds of hijinks & shenanigans & monkeyshines 😆

the Cubs have some of the funniest guys in the league. That's why they get so many clips.

Yordano Ventura is also known for a fight in which Manny Machado charged the mound at him. Unfortunately he died at 25 years old in a car crash in the Dominican Republic, probably not too long after that clip.

14:14 Different Ventura and probably twenty years earlier. It was Robin Ventura who volunteered his face as a punching bag for Nolan Ryan. Update: You got it.

Was kinda Cubs heavy, but they also did have a tendency to pick up the jokey players for awhile there. I mean, as an Os fan I've seen plenty of similar moments that never make these kinds of lists. Like a time the Bird mascot lost it's hat and it fell in to the dugout and Adam Jones spent like a half inning wearing it. I mean, Jones alone during his time was good for one of these a week but the one we mostly see is when he robbed Machado in international play when they were still Os teammates and they saluted each other.

I feel like the Cubs have long had a prediliction for weirdness, and I think some of it is management deciding if the team isn't going to be good we might as well get some guys who can at least be entertaining.

My favorite thing about the Robin Ventura/Nolan Ryan incident is that you can pretty well tell the moment, about halfway to the mound, where Ventura suddenly realizes this is a very bad idea and he's about to get his ass kicked. He's said as much, that he only went through with it because he realized if he stopped halfway to the mound he'd never hear the end of it from his teammates!

John Lester, the first pitcher shown, developed a mental block with throwing to first base.

14:14 - No. That was ROBIN Ventura, third baseman for the White Sox and later the Mets, and about 20 years earlier. 🤣 This is Royals pitcher Yordano Ventura. Unfortunately, he died in a car crash after the 2016 season at the age of 25 and after only 4 MLB seasons.

You see ALOT of Cubs because Anthony Rizzo (the first basemen and center of most of the Cubs clips) is one of the funniest guys in the sport. He went to the Yankees in 2021 (and started the most epic romance with Aaron Judge) but he was with the Cubs for about 6 years or so, I clouding during the 2016 world series

The Padres are just very quiet. The Dodgers, are some sort of miracle now, since it seems every other year the League has to take stewardship of the team due to ownership imploding. Yes you heard that right MLB has a thing where if a team's ownership is just a mess, they will take over and send the owners packing.

4:50 The padres have been to the WS twice, in 1984 and 1998. They got brutalized by two of the strongest teams in baseball history. Padres fandom comes with some baggage. It’s worth looking into the city’s sporting history. starting in 1969 to understand fully the futility and tragedy of San Diegan sporting endeavors.
