MAXIMUM RESPECT ! - Best Hill Climb video of all time. To the Driver, you are a Demi-God ... I have watched this video so many times, and every time I watch it, the hairs on the back of my neck stand. It just gets me so pumped and full of enthusiasm !!
Great sound and crazy action. This is how inboard views should be done in formula one, not with those wide angle stabilized cameras mounted as periscopes on each car. Racing is brutal, and drivers really fight with their rockets on wheels. We want to feel that, too!
This things' got some serious grip! Serious everything really! One more thing...this guy is going to become fossilized on some bedrock along this track one of these days. Best of luck to him, really, cause he's one hell of a driver. Kudos; quite the achievement!
Un must incontournable. Peut être le meilleur inboard visible sur RU-vid.
I watched this video about four or five years ago (before it was on youtube) and it still blows me away. As far as comparing this to Nascar, thats just stupid. It's 2 totally different types of racing and I have great respect for all racing. I took a ride around Indy in a Nascar and I couldnt believe how much the car was dancing around down the straight hitting around 180 and I cant imagine doing it with 40 other cars for 2 or 3 hours. That said, am not a huge Nascar fan but, respect all racing.
Norma M20 is a purpose-built prototype racing chassis constructed in France by Norma Auto Concept ("Norma" is a combo of the names of the two principals of the shop) who have raced various versions of the cars at Le Mans and other European circuits. It's not a Radical or any of that other stuff.
he sounds like he's tearing off the asphalt on that street! what a machine! excellent capture of speed and sound. i get goose bumps listening to it roaring!
Like so many others have said - this driver (and his car of course) is AWSUM - ABSOLUTELY AWSUM!! Among the best incar videos on RU-vid. Thanks holymacaroni85 - for posting it.
I think - like most men - that I'm not a bad driver. But watching this ... I'm not tough enough to go that fast even on a much wider road. Good performance.
That is a seriously fast driver in a seriously fast car. Love it. Check the skidmarks on the corner at 1:52. Overcook it there and kiss your backside goodbye...
He's just adjusting his driving style for the road. Turn in, lift off shifting the weight off the rear, bump the throttle to induce oversteer then apply opposite lock and balance oversteer by feathering or blipping the throttle. A more smooth aproach could result in an unplanned oversteer when powering out the bend and that, in a car that powerful & twitchy, you really wouldn't want to do .
@smiley19912 I found out! Its a N/A 6 with ~400 horse (BMW engine). The amazing acceleration is because the whole thing (driver included) weights in at 1500 lbs.
I'm not sure about the following facts: The car is a Norma M20 with a BMW M3 engine (about 450 hp). The driver is Alain Castellana. Maybe in the south of france, near Marseille.
lol hillclimbing is one of the first forms of motorsport. They have been running all kinds of crazy machinery up european mountains and hills. Including F3000, Ex F1, ex DTM, protosports with F3000 engines! you name it. most of these machines run a very sticky avon crossply slick that has plenty of grip but allows you do go sideways abit.
not in this version. the version for the championship (CN4) is prepared by Amaroli, that has about 380hp. Alain race with Norbert Santos engine in Gemenos and in Serra Estrela in Portugal. The chassis was a change to M20 (later M21).
I have to correct you rallylory. this BMW 3 liter engine has about 520hp ( aprox. 387 Kw) in the bank of assays. I worked with Norbert Santos preparing it for the 2005 season. (sorry for the bad english)
You can see the slicks are not yet fully warmed up trough the first tight turns, just look at the adjustments to the steering wheel ... insane driving.
Hellow... this is my favorite video in youtube. But i want to have mote information about. What is this car? Who is the driver? where is this course?? Thank you..
@schnobiwan trick is that it's so unbelievably easy just to get a car like that around a corner. The trick lies within driver talent, not so much the car.
Losing momentum is a mistake, those are basicly the main reason to hit the ref limiter AND overdrive the car. During a hill climb, you need to keep the wheels driven as long as possible, changing gears makes you lose momemtum, so if you know you need to shift down short after shifting up you can better not shift at all. Also overtuning is used in every form of racing, depending on surface, tires and car the angle is huge at rally racing and small in Formula 1.
@smiley19912 This race car is powered by highly modified BMW S50 engine that can rev all up 10,000 rpm, but in race trim it's limited to 9500 rpm because of safety. Engine have 3000ccm and 6 cylinders and producing power between 400 hp and 450 hp depends about rpm. This race car with driver weights 1350Ibs or 610 kg. Car have great aerodynamic so can accelerate under 6 seconds to 200km/h. Price is between 90,000 and 110,000 € depends about parts.
I've been to the Chamrousse hillclimb last week, so I know what I'm talking about. and this is certainly not sped up. If you put a BMW M3 engine in a "go-kart" that weighs 500kg, you get this, simple as that. His hands move fast because there are a lot of turns and the steering wheel is tiny.
It is the Audi R8 (Race Version). This car is where the Street R8 comming from. It is an oneseated v12 racecar. It is not a BMW, its an Audi. But i dont know how much HP is has.
