Refined Hill Style Experience!
The Hill Style American Semi Longbow by Great Plains.
Just beautiful and a great shooter. The refinements do make sense, even if the purists will stay with the old style Hill bow.
For everyone who wants Hill Style but with a smoother shooting experience and more speed, this is the one :)
Thanks to Great Plains for sending this awesome bow to me!

I’ve shot American style recurves for 35+ years. My first longbow was a Great Plains Traditional(2 years ago). It runs with the better recurves easily(ilf style). The ASL they make will probably be my next Great Plains.

I'm happy with my af longbow I purchased after your review. This one seems nice but I can't justify the expense. 👍🎯

We all have budgets. These are premium lifetime investments. But this should not prevent the enjoyment and ability to shoot with a $200 bow.

MR. HIRMIR, thanks for your extensive work of all these bows. It really helps people to understand more , before making their first purchase, or a specific bow for specific qualities. You introduced me to Asiatic style bows, and their benefits. Thanks from the USA and hope you a great future.

Looks like a really nice bow, but it seems kind of slow for the money, I like the little short bows and thumb draw, and the fact that they shoot really fast, thank you for another great review

Hill style longbows are ALWAYS "slow". This king of bow is powerfull by the weight of arrow they throw. Comparing longbows and recurve is like comparing a gt car like a Porsche and a muscle car. It's not the same kind of perf.

Great Plains makes a few "Hill Style" bows. Each with slight variation.

I have a Youth Longbow in hickory for left eye dominate thing from This same company, Yet to use but the bow is just a tick over 45 pounds at my draw of 24.5--25 inches. It is not the True Howard Hill/Flat limb style but a reflex deflex that the reflex limb looks like a straight bow when strung type ASL at 52 inches. I feel almost like I have a modern take on the Plains Native bows when I have the bow drawn. I got it in 2022 right on my birthday on December 20th, was supposed to be a week earlier but a snow storm stopped the bow from coming. I do like they were one of the few who made a short draw bow for my needs that is not the price of a bigger bow, or possibly more for such a request, with some companies saying they can offer most adult models at a 26 inch draw. I do not want to have to do some asking on how off the bow weight is from each inch lower then X draw the bow is made for, I just want to use the bow and have it at my draw or very close to my hunting draw.

I have a few centre shot bows, and they seem to be easier to shoot accurately than my 'non' centre shot bows... but non- centre shot bows are much more satisfying (challenging) to shoot accurately. That being said i wouldn't mind one of these in my bow rack... (i do like smoothness of a longbow). My favourite (at the moment) bow is a 'Tang' style #40, @ 28 laminate... 58" long, 32" max draw. Closely followed by a #40@"28, 60" long, 30" draw centre shot bow... so similar in specs... but totally different to shoot.

looking on your face, we know which works easier ! the Howard Hill model and copies are an enigma but excepting the lighter arrows few differences between GP and Fairbows anyway, Great plains have an excellent reputation with lighter, comfortable and precise modern models (reflex deflex, with carbon, ...) for competition, like Toelke bows !

So basically for 300 dollars more you get a premium, refined version of Bear Montana.

The bow looks soo beautiful. Armin sir I have a question, what is the ideal height ot a Long bow? Some say 65" and some have said 71". Is there a standard height or depends on person to person.
@alananderson5202
@alananderson5202 Год назад
Depends on what it’s made of and how wide of limbs. Longer narrow limbs or wider and shorter. Particularly if you’re using natural materials.
@outdoorsythings2573
@outdoorsythings2573 Год назад
mine are all 68 inchs. i enjoy that length. but its all personal taste. all iv noticed is length seems to affect how smooth/easy it is to draw back. longer seems smoother then shorter. but long if hunting in the bush isnt fun when the top limb is hitting tree branchs or bottom limb is hitting brush. for me 68 longbows and 56-60 inch recurves. but its all personal taste

Meh, for 150.00 I would rather have the Sanlida Royal X8 longbow even if it isnt a true Hill style bow. From what Iv’e seen from your review on that it gets the job done and more. The Hill bows are all overpriced for what your really getting. At this price level I would rather have a royal huntsman longbow from Omega Bow Co. Great Plains is really high for all their products. Great review though thanks alot.

I shot a Hill Longbow for over 30 years and wasn't impressed. It "seemed" to be much slower and loads of hand shock so I've gone to an eastern recurve, much faster.

How good was Hill really? He was way before my time, but I've looked at some footage of him on youtube, and it was clearly faked. Was he actually good or just hyped up by the movies?
@johnminnitt8101
@johnminnitt8101 Год назад
He was after all good enough to do the same shots in front of a live audience, unlike some current trick shooters who seem to appear mainly on film. It's hard to fake much with a real audience. He also won nearly 200 field shoots in a row, and trusted his shooting enough to hunt some dangerous game. So I reckon he was pretty good, film work was only part of what he did.

PS what shots do you think were faked?

Even today reality shows are usually scripted and heavily edited. But still that's very far from plainly lying.
