Hillarious Vintage Car Wash - Overland Park, KS

While out in the Kansas City area on business, I stumbled on this hilarious-looking system at an older self serve car wash. It bears some resemblance to a Southern Pride system but--at least in its current state--almost looks homemade. This is as basic as it gets - it puts soap on the car, then rinses it off. And the end result is that the car looks like it sat out in an acid rainstorm. xD
Overall, this place was extremely amusing but I'd never take my own car there for a serious cleaning. I usually joke about how Hertz must love me for returning cars cleaner than I got them, but in this case...not so much :)

I am a self serve car wash owner and have two PDQ laser wash 360 plus and 5 self serve bays in the suburbs of Buffalo New York. It's nice seeing your videos to see the customer response to all the carwashes.

YOU should try to find an oasis monsoon. Those are very rare. And here is a car wash in st louis. It is called the blue Iguana Car wash.

This was very high tech when I was a kid. The one we used to go to(you got a free wash with a gas fill up over 10gal) didn't have nozzles that moved. They were mounted to an inverted L shaped pipe that was mounted to the ground rail mounted robot that just sprayed a couple circuits with soap and one rinse circuit. Good times. Bring your synthetic chamoise next time you go on the road. HAHA!

I totally thought they tore that place down Haha. Back in the 80s and 90s that place had the best automatic wash on earth. I loved going through that car wash as a kid. It was definitely much nicer than what you're experiencing. Now that my memory is catching up with me. I think that system was installed in the mid 90s. Before it was a brush system. Somewhere I've got some really cool pictures from inside it.

If you find yourself in Overland Park again, you may want to check out Travel Clean Car Wash. They have dual Hodge tunnels that may be about 200' long.

It looks like all it does is: one pass of presoak, another pass, and it tries to do another pass but half way through, it switches to clear high pressure rinse (only one and a half passes), and that's it. This thing was probably made before spot free rinses were around.

ROFL, that machine looked like someone built it from reading "Popular Mechanix" magazine. At first, it looked like a good wash. But yeah, that "wax" left a lot to be desired. Good thing you used a rental and not your own car.

This is how you pay: Say for example, the stock wash costs $5 and thats all you want, so you insert $5. If you want an undercarriage wash with the stock wash and that costs $2, you insert $7 and drive in. Its simple when you know how it works.

2016 Sonic LT with 34,000 miles. Classic Hertz. Chevy did update the sonic for 2017. I rented a 2017 sonic with leather and heated seats and must say that it wasn't a bad 2 day rental.

OK after a wild goose chase i have concluded. And this is just a wild conclusion. So it might not be accurate. But the rail kind of reminds me of the rails you see on monorail systems. So it might be an old monorail with no covering maybe. My other conclusion is it could be either a homemade system or a system made by a small local company or something. Because i have never seen a system like that before.

Yeah, no thanks. I'd rather do it myself than spend a shit ton of time detailing it afterward. Why? Becuase that's just how I roll. I like a clean car. Yes, I'm well aware it will get dirty again and have bird shit, insects, and other debris on it. There are products that can take care of that.
