Spent the weekend using the Hilleberg Helags 2 and needed to do some cleaning and little video. I love the new versions of more lightweight gear Hilleberg is putting out, while keeping the robust, wind/weather fighting designs. I had 2 dogs in with me and the ventilation kept the condensation gone.
Roomy, light, and comfortable, THE NEW HELAGS MODELS are outstanding choices for those looking for comfort and low weight for their adventures during the snow-free times of the year. Their two vestibule configuration results in an inner tent with vertical ends, near vertical sidewalls, and full sitting height throughout the tent. Curved patterning on the bottom of the outer tent walls provides full-time ventilation without compromising protection from rain, and all-mesh inner tent doors promote impressive air flow. For even more venting (and for great views), both vestibule doors can be rolled away completely. Patterned after the Red Label Kaitum, the Helags is an excellent "all-rounder." It excels at mobile journeys, where you pitch your tent and take it down frequently, and it is equally at home on a variety of adventures. Backpackers, paddlers and bicycle tourers will all love its lightweight roominess, and since the Helags 3 weighs just 200 g (7 oz) more than the Helags 2, sizing up is an easy choice for those wanting even more comfort.
Minimum Weight 2.1 kg/4 lbs 10 oz
Packed Weight 2.4 kg/5 lbs 5 oz
Outer tent fabric Kerlon 1000
Poles (9 mm) 1 x 305, 2 x 260 cm
1 x 120.1, 2 x 102.4 in
Pegs 16 Y-Peg UL

Love the Saitaris. Just a mansion and so much storage space. Great tent.

Great review. I have a Helags 3 and I really like it. I also have a Soulo BL, Kaitum 3 GT, Saivo, and Tarra. Each one has their trade-offs. I like the BL tents most on paper, but usability is probably the yellow and red for me. I was surprised that the yellow label had no solid doors - only mesh. However, I never have the doors closed, anyway - maybe halfway in 0-degree weather to keep the cold off my face. The BL are warmer in the winter and better for wind. I haven't had the chance to be in the snow in any of them. I usually have to backpack in the Sierras up higher than the parking lot, which oddly makes the heaviest, burliest, tents unfeasible in practice because I can't/don't want to carry a 9-pound tent. I wish I could/would, but I don't enjoy it much - not to mention I can't find a place to carry it with all my other winter gear. So, there are always trade-offs.

how does it preform in pretty heavy rain and wind?

Good to see you reviewing a Hilleberg Bruce, just like old times. I’m addicted to them now, what’s your thoughts on the Soulo BL? Best wishes from Scotland mate.

I think I should get one and head over to Scotland to see it in the real action. I am actually trying to figure out a time to come over.

Great video as always Bruce. Lover your hille reviews. I bought a kaitum 2 about 3 months ago and watched your review a good few times it was very useful. That kaitum is one heck of a tent. Possibly my favourite of all. I also have a Jannu 2 and a Rogen. Again your Rogen review was brilliant. Have you ever tried the Jannu? It’s a beast in bad weather. Cheers. Gary

HI Gary. I have been trying for years now to get my hands on a Jannu but Hilleberg never has one on the loaner shelf. Seems like they are gaining popularity recently though. If I do, I may get in touch for some tips.

@@naturecallsoutdoors hi Bruce. It’s a real bomber tent. I have also upgraded to the 10.25mm black poles 💪. You should check out Tom Heaney Adventure on RU-vid. He has a great review of one. Also reviews on a good selection of Hilleberg tents. Very honest and detailed it’s a great channel. Have a good one mate 👍

The dogs vs condensation is more likely the wet/damp fur, yes?
@naturecallsoutdoors
@naturecallsoutdoors Год назад
For sure. I do find the condensation is always great with a dog as compared with another human, even if the dog is dry. I think maybe they exhale a lot more moisture, but I could be wrong.
