Hi Simon, apologies if you get this message twice! I've typed it once and it disappeared somewhere. Don't know how I managed to do that. Since I was last in touch I've used the Hilleberg Tarp 5 quite extensively, sometimes in conjunction with the Mesh Tent 1 and sometimes with a simple bivy bag. I was concerned initially that it wouldn't cope with the vagaries of the British climate but given that it's a shelter for the warmer months; with a bit of careful consideration where and how it's pitched I've had no problems at all. I'm a greenhorn newbie to tarp camping and beginning to realise that it's an art unto itself and requires a different mind set and method to what I've practiced in the past. I'm learning all the time. It was your video that persuaded to make this costly acquisition; so thanks for that. I've never regretted it.

A guyline is a rope or cable that is affixed to the ground under tension in order to hold up and add stability to a structure such as a tent, mast or pole. A guideline is a rule or standard by which one chooses a course of action or makes a judgement.

Did the trap can be using at higher level?since I am planning to have a cooking under it. Furthermore, where can I find the foot print ? Thank you for yr attention !

Hi Ricky Thank you for your question. You can put the tarp up as high as you need, but of course the higher up it goes, the higher it also raises from the floor. So if you wished you could raise the whole tarp for cooking under and afterwards lower it when preparing to sleep under. Maybe it's silly to say, but i assume your cooking under the tarp with a small gas stove and not a fire🙂The groundsheet/footprint i use under the mesh tent when i go camping is a footprint by 3F UL Gear lanshan 2 (220 x 110 cm) from AliExpress.com China, but you can use any footprint by any manufacturer. I hope this helps, and please ask if you have any other questions. Simon

Nice video Simon good to get a proper look at this, being 6ft not sure if this is for me but it's definitely a nice piece of gear. 👍🙏Cheers

Thanks a lot Ollie mate, i believe the mesh tent length was 210 cm. Maybe i didn't show that very well in the video. It is a nice bit of gear for sure :) Thanks for watching bud and all the best :)

Nice setup. I would appreciate if Hilleberg would offer a similar setup for people with 200 cm.
@AnEnglishmaninFinland1
@AnEnglishmaninFinland1 2 года назад
Yeah it's a problem, as it seems everyone is a lot taller nowdays, but a lot of tent makers don't account for their length

Hi Simon and thanks for your videos. They are always informative and enjoyable. This setup would be ideal for my one nighter treks in the Lincolnshire Wolds during summer when the weather is calm and settled. (I wouldn't use it on top of Ben Nevis in February!) Does the condensation that drips off the tarp onto the mesh run off onto the ground or does it come through and drip onto your sleeping bag. Just wondering if I need a bivy bag as well as a sleeping bag. Thanks.

Hi Frederick Thank you for your kind and positive words, it always gives me a boost to continue to make more videos on RU-vid, thanks again. Funny enough I haven't had any issues with condensation on the underside of the tarp, maybe it's because I have been lucky with the Summer weather, and I haven't experienced any dew in the early mornings, or maybe it's because there is no restrictions to the air flowing underneath so then no condensation occurs. I believe this might be the case. All the best Simon

Could of bought a decent tent for the price of hilleberg material, there prices are ridiculous after being such a huge fan , I can no longer afford them , guess they want to go out of business

I agree they're certainly expensive, and it does make you think before a purchase. Thanks for watching and taking time to comment👍 Have fun out there😊

Fun fact, Hilleberg products aren't expensive. They are actually priced perfectly considering what you get. That goes for their competitors aswell, mostly cheap low quality stuff. Dyneema tents however are expensive compared to what you get.
