Hilleberg Unna vs Hilleberg Suolo 

I have both and I just spent 5 nights in the Unna. I find that I use it more than the Soulo as its just simpler to set up and take down. Thanks for posting Ken!

I have used my Unna for several years. It’s my bikepacking tent which is also my go m-to hiking tent if wind speeds predicted are less than 32kmh. I recently bought a Soulo to see what all the fuss is about (it’s very popular with summit campers in Great Britain). Definitely more stable with the third pole and less flapping, but as a right handed occupant I found it a nuisance cooking in the vestibule and the inverted T shaped zippers on the inner an annoyance (I was always unzipping and securing the material and then zipping closed again). Soulo much easier to set up in strong winds though with its build-from-the-bottom sleeve and clip system. Unna venting is superb with a rollable back wall, and entry is easier with the three zippers on the long curving zip. The Unna offers wide vistas without the need to roll the door. So I much prefer the Unna but will choose the Soulo or Nammatj in windy conditions.

Wonderful review, it answered my questions about the Unna vs Soulo. I've been using my Soulo for 7 years now and it's a wonderful little tent, but it is a tight fit if you're over 1.95cm. Especially during summer, the Soulo is rather hot to stay in. Ventilation and condensation are always an issue, thinking about getting the Unna after your wonderful comparison.

I've already made my choice. Nowadays it's all about comfort for me. In the past I've used the Soulo and Akto. Much prefer the Unna these days. Plenty of headroom to use a Trekkerchair, the luxury of getting changed without having to contort myself, ease of access and exit. All these things start to matter when you reach a certain age. My storm chasing days are over. The Unna can handle anything I'm likely to encounter. I have upgraded to 10 mm poles and I carry some extra guys but I've never had to use them. Fabulous tent. The lack of vestibule isn't an issue for me. You create an adequate vestibule easily enough. Just remember to secure a guy line to your rucksack when pitching. The thing can take off like a kite..... Take care.

I have slept hundreds of nights in all kind of conditions in the Unna. It kept me dry and comfortable during crazy storms on very exposed spots. I cannot think of any better tent in the world than the Unna, for me it is the perfect tent.

The Unna has a small "vestibule" - when you peg out the door guyline the space between inner & outer tents increases to easily take a backpack and boots. It's probably the better choice for the majority of backpackers who mostly camp below treeline in winter. For very exposed areas maybe rather Nammatj 2 than Soulo, the latter also having the worst ventilation.

I just wish hilleberg would let you choose your inner at check out .. i would love the unna for summer but i have to buy the winter inner then I have to buy the mess inner ..

I was just in Grasmyr and Umea... I should have stopped by. I am having the hardest difficulty in choosing between the Unna and Soulo. The lack of a vestibule with the Unna is making me lean to the Soulo. Thoughts? I have a Staika, but it's too heavy to carry for one person. :( Tack!

The Unna is literally the only tent that will give me some cognitive dissonance regarding my Soulo RL, because of the living space. For long distance solo hikes, I've found my living space plenty though. It's certainly not as if your arms don't fit, when lying inside (at 1.88cm)... I somewhat disagree about the ease of set up. That's wholly dependent on wind, and these are tents for adverse conditions. Not your sunny, only slightly breezy summer holidays. Even with gale force, the Soulo is a relatively easy pitch. Now try that with the Unna when setting up the poles and all of a sudden 'controlling a sail'. There is no comparison in 'ease of set up' for any but decent weather.
