Some very dangerous practice here! Tamping the caps down the hole with a lump hammer is a recipe for serious injury. Most likely your drill bit is too blunt/ small. With the right sized drill bit the caps should slide down the hole with no pressure at all. The amount of force you applied could easily have set the caps off, which with no mat/ eye protection could have very nasty results. Your mat also needs to be significantly bigger!

Yeah it does it has to be wedge shaped like a double bevelled chisel, but also you need to hollow out the center part a bit, as the fulminant in the cap is on the outer edge and not in the middle like live bullets.
Yes one cap would have been enough but the reason this exploded like it did was that I thought I was drilling good old Limestone and didn't it bastard well turn out to be a piece of sandstone instead (was wondering why I had to cut out nearly a whole minute of drilling when editing the video).
