this is the procedure for a n70 series hilux and also n80 a well as the same series prado. this is also basically the same on a d40 nissan navara.
make sure you use jack stands.
make sure you get a wheel alignment after.
if you are not confident in working on cars DO NOT do this yourself.

Thanks mate, funny you say that because I actually am a qualified mechanic haha Just thought I’d make this series of how to videos to show people you don’t need all the fancy tools and equipment to work on your vehicle

Nice easy way to do this without taking off your whole lower control arm. I recently did mine as well, but I also did the bushes, so I took both arms off and used a press for everything. Good video and great instruction on how to check if the ball joint has movement. Thanks.

I wish my lower ball joint came out that easy. I took of the arm , sledge hammered it, put in 12 ton press with blow torch and still wouldn’t budge. I will end up taking it to a workshop.

I did try hitting the Ball Joint out with a large Hammer but it did not move at all, After watching your Video again I think I have noticed my mistake. The Jack you used is an old Wind-up Bottle Jack. I was using a 4 ton Hydraulic pump-up Bottle Jack. The shock of me hitting the Top of the Ball Joint was taken into my Jack and not the Concrete Floor. I am going to try hitting it out again tomorrow, this time I will Jack it up and put a solid Jack Stand under the Ball Joint arm , so the shock of the Hit goes through the Jack Stand and into the Concrete. Fingers Crossed,

Hey mate, is it possible at all to do this with the hub on? My Hilux is a 2wd and has no hole through the centre of the hub, which makes it a total beeatch to get off.

hey mate awesome vid, thanks for the n70 series. what breaker bars and ratchets do you use and which ones would you recommend?

Thanks, most of my tools are repco brand they are good quality and reasonably priced Also really good to deal with warranties if something breaks they just give you a new one no questions asked

Brilliant video as always, mine are still good for now but will certainly refer back to this video when the time comes for replacement. One question, I see you have aftermarket upper control arms, care to elaborate a bit as the why, the costs and what's your experience with them?
@foordoffroad8915
@foordoffroad8915 Год назад
Thanks again, i had to get aftermarket arms because on full downtravel the arm would contact the spring, so these give a lot more clearance around there plus are stronger than standard and also built in +3 degrees of castor or easier to get the wheel alignment angles right on a lifted car

Cheers mate good video. I got a 2012 sr with all sorts of clunks. I was told to just change the control arms instead of only the ball joint. Questions I noticed your slotted discs , are they an upgrade, if so what brand, I need to upgrade my disc and callipers as well.
@foordoffroad8915
@foordoffroad8915 2 года назад
If you need new bushes too then yeah replace the whole arms, I’ve got dba slotted rotors and they fit with the standard callipers

Do you have video of how to do the same to the upper ball joint ?
@foordoffroad8915
@foordoffroad8915 Год назад
No but I have a video of whole upper arm replacement, you can use this to get them out The uppers need the arm removed and use a press and then put the arm back in
@kotasonamtenzin
@kotasonamtenzin Год назад
@@foordoffroad8915 I was wondering if the upper ball joint could be done without having to take off the arms.
@foordoffroad8915
@foordoffroad8915 Год назад
It is possible to do them in the car if you have a mini press but even then it’s still easier to pull the arms out
@kotasonamtenzin

@@foordoffroad8915 thanks mate. Appreciate your advice. I m assuming Prado 120 and the Hilux has the same front suspension set up. Are the ball joints same too?

@foordoffroad8915
@foordoffroad8915 Год назад
Have a look on my channel I have a video on replacing whole upper arms The upper ball joints do have to be put in a press to be changed so you can use that video to remove them and then take to a shop for replacement and re install yourself if that helps
