The purpose isn't for you to know the reason behind Ville writing it, the purpose is to find your own meaning in each song, to find the beauty of it and let it relate to whatever it brings to your mind and heart. That is the point and purpose of art.
Ville Valo is a music genius, I wish I had never stopped listening to His Infernal Majesty, but I was young and stupidly cared about what my "friends" thought. I will not make that mistake again. H.I.M. is eternal.
Shant, we all know that's what the band wanted to be called but they cut it in "HIM" because of the bad buzz it made . People were not so open minded, and it hasen't changed that much since
@@anpayto1414 That's not actually entirely true. Yes, they were called His Infernal Majesty in the early days, but later they changed the name to be HIM. Lots of bands go through different names before settling on one. Also it's not H.I.M, it's just HIM. It doesn't stand for anything. If you go calling them His Infernal Majesty, it's a bit like saying The Quarrymen every time you are talking about The Beatles.
@srlbbggg "In some old myth, the seven towers and the water in the ocean are Hell - that's in the chorus of the song. In a way, it's a song about a young person who shouldn't be taught and subjected to religion, but who should instead figure out things in her own mind. And it's not necessarily just about religion - it could be about world politics as well. And of course, there are secrets in that song that I won't reveal." Ville H. Valo ...
I don't know why, his voice sounds like someone who shouldn't be trusted, but the feeling is like " I just don't care, let's be together in death through the eternity" * holds his hand and jumps from a plane
Venus is love, it's beyond any religious or logical feeling and it runs in our blood. Reason and virtues could be linked to the towers on the dark waters of our emotions, Love goes denies that, it's got no logic, some may say it's God's mistake according to catholic theology since all would be rational or whatever. When listening to Him, remind of Charles Baudelaire, Valo is heavily influenced by him, many songs are incredibly metaphoric
I never knew this. Always loved this song, but I love it even more now. I broke away from Jehovah's Witnesses(father tried to rope me into it). I defaulted to my mother's family's side of Japanese Shinto instead since it is so "freeing". Had a little lingering fear from JW to get over for a while.
Venus = Aφροδιτη (Afroditi) she is the goddess of beauty in Greece :) his son who called Love =Ερωτας (Erotas) is the god of love... also this song is my favorite of Dark Light album too :)
Been listening to HIM since 2007 and only now I stumble upon this. Some fan I am. Though they do have a lot of stuff that's hard to find. I have Dark Light on CD so I didn't know abt this song >.
sillystar You could go to nl.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/HIM, and then click "Afspeellijsten Albums"! There you can find a complete list of all album songs and a list of "rare" songs!
very beautiful song, but i'm not surprised at all..H.I.M. doesn't have any bad song!!! I think that every him's song should be at the top of playlists everywhere!!
Lyrics are deeply meaningful!! "Her heaven is a lie to those who threw away the key, Her God is alive and well when the higher believes and you can't damn the river of her dreams or understand the divine words she speaks." "She'll be free from the arms of your sins that made you weak as your world started crumbling" "The moon kissed the sun and now we hold her in our blood."
Hahaha, it talks about the Goddess, she speaks divine words through intuition, through dreams directly to our hearts and that's why she is represented by Venus, by Love. She is free from the sins conceived by our minds. We are her children, she is alive in our flesh, in our blood.
I agree!! This is my favorite song from 'Dark Light'. And to those who have never heard it before, get 'Dark Light' on vinyl. The album side 4 is all bonus tracks including this, 'The Cage' and 'Poison Heart'.
haven't heard this song for a while (had it on my old laptop but it broke =[), just listened to it and out of nowhere the lyrics came out of my mouth without realizing i new them haha trippy,
O.O Honestly now I'm feeling really ashamed because I'm a huge fan of HIM, I'm listening to them over 2years and I heard this song for first time just now :D :P And you should learn much more about history because @daniCK3 is absolutely right ;)! Lyrics makes sense. Every song by Ville makes sense and every always will. 3:)
that's kind of the beauty of it.. not knowing what exactly what he's talking about.. so u create your own meaning for each of his songs, everyone has his, it's a matter of perception. but i can tell you there's a strong influence of allan edgar poe or baudelaire in "Flowers of Evil"... the words he chooses.. Evil and Love... but whatever, just my opinion..
There is no live version of this beautiful song. I am not able to buy it (dark light heartagram internet version, limited of 20.000). Love this song so much. Looking for it too.
I hope you dont mind. But there are mistakes in the lines writen in the video. It doest lower the effort you took to make, it thank you. Thats the right text: you can BEND the river not damn and its SEVERING TIDES not seven towers , sorry to say that .got it from songtexte.com I hope now every one can understand because now it makes sense;-)
Edit: After thinking about it (and listening closely) I've tried to recollect the knowledge I had about this song when I made the video. I do still think it's "seven towers" - referring to the Yezidi Devil Worshippers of Iraq. (www.bridgestotruth.com/PF-02.html) Also "seven towers" is a common satanic symbol in literature. Thank you for your input though.
question, why isnt this on itunes? i own every song except this one and stigmata dialboli because they are not on itunes and it makes me sad that i cant find them ANYWHERE on itunes. help me out please!!
I red somewhere (excuse me for my bad english in advance)... It says "venus denies your seven towers above dark waters. Venus is Greek goddess of sex and love. Seven towers above dark waters - I guess those seven towers above dark waters represent hell in some way
and that everyone must seek out their own salvation because there are different beliefs in the world and that there is no singular path for salvation, no supreme savior. That this woman representant of Venus or Lucifer her god and her heaven are different and she walks a path that is one closest to her god. Maybe this woman is supposed to be named Venus and she is saying she cares not of the sins and virtues many uphold. That she lives freely, and that embracing her ideals frees us. just my opin
