My thoughts on this install - particularly on a few key parts of the process. This is NOT a step by step, bolt by bolt guide. Visit the Tec Bike Parts youtube channel for that - George makes an excellent video. Hopefully, however, this video demystifies a few parts of the process and gives you a good idea of what to expect, instills some confidence for people doing a job like this the first time, etc. #royalenfieldhimalayan #tecbikeparts

I have the tec cam currently in a box in my garage. I take it out and look at it from time to time 🤩

Excellent. I put mine in over two years ago and now have done 25,000km, never looking back. Great video with good tips. Thank you.

I appreciate it, Ken. Glad to hear yours is 25000km and trouble free. Did you do intake and a slip on as well?

Yeah Interestingly I had a lextec muffler and K&N filter and by brother’s big standard himmy dragged me off and he is 20 kg heavier!!! I’ve done some other mods to my air box to get clean cool air and minimise water ingress I put a post on the USA himmy page a couple of months ago with details if you’re keen

Excellent video lots of useful information. Had mine in for 7000 miles and recently added a dna filter and cover. Tried with a free flowing exhaust but seemed better with the stock one apart from the weight ! Nice to see you use a bent feeler gauge to get the correct gap…. See lots of RU-vidrs sliding the feeler gauge in at an angle so that has to give a bigger gap ? Ride safe

Thanks for the comment. Yea, been using bent feeler gauges since my time as a tech. Back then we were doing valve adjusts on civics and accords - exact same system except Honda had the good grace to use a screwdriver head vs the stupid little cube on motorcucles. If you don't hard bend the gauge, you need to hold the bend gently with your hands while doing it. More difficult, easy to get the wrong gap...and for what? To save your precious gauges? Never understood guys who didn't do it.

I believe the manual suggests not removing the plug just until the head cover is loosened, makes sense, sorta. Did you see the 2 foot ribbon of silicone when George removed his cover? jeez thanks for those points mentioned, literally can`t wait to get my cam installed, I put the dna filter kit in, and you can immediately feel the improvement. I am also fitting hitchcocks quality valves for the full effect

Yea I loosened mine first. I think the idea is simply to not force it. On the reinstall I torqued my head cover down before popping it in with fresh RTV.

@@Johnnyjsgarage I see now why you used a zip tie - my string came loose and the chain slipped off the crankshaft sprocket! on the upside, I have ordered a new camchain as well as a rotor puller ;) ps - I am considering not using RTV so it will hopefully come off easy so I can find the `correct` TDC when checking the valves next time. What could possibly go wrong?
